Does Shatter Defenses work on Attacks of Oppertunity?

Rules Questions

Lets say I find a way to make an enemy shaken, say using Intimidate and the Rake Rogue archetype.

Does Shatter Defences then allow me to make Sneak Attacks on my Attacks of Opportunity? It says '

I would have Combat Reflexes.

If they are shaken yes 100% you would. It's a decent archetype for that for sure, and one of the half dozen or so ways you can make sure you can sneak attack almost anything that the game provides.

Id reccomend a fortuitous weapon if you're looking for AoO since you want have TWF penalties on an AoO and getting in a second attack could stop an enemy cold.

Cheers, I didn't really doubt it as the text is pretty clear. Unlike some other abilities.

I like the fortuitous weapon quality but I am looking to make a whip wielding Mortal Usher. It has a lot of cool s!%+ going on that would work well with the character concept I have in mind. Mainly the fact that it can create a whip out of its clothing with up to 10 points in different enhancement bonuses/weapon qualities. Fortuitous is not on the list though :(
Maybe have that 'class' whip for regular attacks and switch to another when my turn is over? I will have one hand free anyway...

I will finalize the build soon and post it.

If you've got a hand free, maybe yeah carry another whip with fortuitous and attack with it for AoO? You wont suffer TWF penalties and it may help.

I'd also reccomend Cruel on that same whip. Intimidate builds and Cruel weapons go so well together.

I second the Cruel weapon enchant. Shatter Defense Rake builds go well with Hellcat Pounce as well. Intimidate/Debilitating Injury on your first attack in the Surprise Round, then use your 2nd attack from Hellcat Pounce to Sicken/Shatter Defenses. And when Round 1 starts, you get a Full Attack vs. an already Shaken/Sicken/Debilitated/Shattered target.

And yes, any Attacks of Opportunity you make vs. Shattered targets will apply SnA.

Shatter Defenses (Combat) wrote:

Your skill with your chosen weapon leaves opponents unable to defend themselves if you strike them when their defenses are already compromised.

Prerequisites: Weapon Focus, Dazzling Display, base attack bonus +6, proficiency with weapon.

Benefit: Any shaken, frightened, or panicked opponent hit by you this round is flat-footed to your attacks until the end of your next turn. This includes any additional attacks you make this round.

All sneak attack cares about is if your target is flat footed or otherwise denied its dex bonus. How said bonus is denied is irrelevant. But, your AOO would not allow you to sneak attack as your target is not flat footed yet, only shaken. Your attack would make the target flat footed until the end of your next turn, but it is not flat footed until after the attack is resolved.

Well Whips can attack from 15' away, but with Improved Whip Mastery they threaten out to 10'. This means you could attack them to proc Shatter Defences, then if they move in to engage they're flat-footed to your AoO. It's not gonna work 100% of the time, but I'm sure it'll work some of the time.

I'm thinking of going Mortal Usher on my Occultist (game's on hiatus so it'll be a bile berore Inhave to decide). One advantage of the Occultist is that you can use the Transmuation Implement base power (Legacy Weapon) to add any +1 equivalent weapon property to a weapon. It doesn't have Sneak Attack so going full Occultist wouldn't help you with a Shatter Defences build, but a single level dip would let you apply Fortuitous (or whatever) to your weapon. It's a standard action and lasts for 1 minute.
