So the thing is, Sage’s Guidance sounds reasonable at first, but if you want it to actually function like Z-Targeting, you have to do the option where the Sprite is in the same space as the opponent, which is usually a big no-no, since they will die immediately from being an easy target.
How can I maximize the survivability of this Familiar? Also, while we’re at it, any ways I can improve on the concept outside of survivability?
Ideally, the Master would actually be fighting, thus probably has Familiar Bond and Improved Familiar Bond, instead of getting a Familiar through class abilities, thus probably has little to no spellcasting.
Any help would be appreciated.

If you want the familiar to point something out then dancing lights are less killable and should serve to designate targets for you. A sprite has dancing lights at will.
If you really want the familiar in harm's way then the figment and sage archetypes are compatible. Figment means the familiar doesn't stay dead.

You'd definitely need the "Hey, Listen!" Super Annoyance feat. xD
A Figment familiar archetype returns for free the next day, if it's killed, which means it can never really die. And you can apply evolutions and share them to aid you.
The Mascot familiar archetype helps the entire party, not just its master.
A Spirit Guardian is a special creature that can be summoned with spells, but when killed you have to wait a day before summoning it again. Each summon lasts 1min/level, though you can use Extend spell or the Alter Summon spell shenanigan to keep it around all day.
Animal companions can take the Monstrous Companion feat, so maybe there's a good familiar type out there?

No they can't
Prerequisite(s): Handle Animal 7 ranks; class feature that functions as the druid animal companion ability (including animal companion, divine bond [mount], hunter’s bond [animal companion], nature’s bond [animal companion], and the mount class feature) with an effective druid level of 7.
Animal companions don't have the animal companion class ability, or an effective druid level
