Anything really...
Literally pick any VMC, that. Just don't make me waste half my feats for it...

A Ranger Pool that allows them to automatically pick up all the Gunslinger or Swashbuckler Deeds that apply to whatever Combat Style they have chosen.
Each level the Ranger would get the next level of Favored Enemy, they get access to all the Deeds of that level or lower that apply their chosen Combat Style.
On top of that, give it some sort of Ranger Pool powered Sacred Weapon thing adding bonuses that scale with level.
Then replace Favored Terrain with some sort of defensive/movement options, like the Flamesinger Bard Wildfire ability (+5' every 4 levels) and the Warrior Poet's scaling Spring Attack.

I'm such a big fan of the Guide archetype's Ranger's Focus that it's my default whenever I'm planning on making a ranger.
I'm a fan of this one, too. I'm in a group that's currently playing Giantslayer and Shattered Star in PFS mode, alternating books between the two APs, with a few levels of Emerald Spire thrown in to fill some progression gaps. If we were only doing GS, I'd stick with traditional favored enemies, and it would be obvious which to take. But the other adventures we're playing have such a wide variety of foes that the Ranger's Focus is far more useful, even if the number of uses is highly limited.
