I threw drow at my players, it worked out moderately well. Biggest issue is that drow are very popular, so people have far-reaching expectations: They want to see two-weapon fighting, hand crossbows, poison, betrayal, slavery, torture, driders, evil clerics, matriarchs, demons and what not. It's hard to cover most of it, to deliver a "true drow experience". One of my players was actually disappointed that there was no torture.
Next time I will rather go for duergar. Their misery is something that should make great RP and people have less expectations - while there is still a lot of official material about them.
Beyond that, I like gugs as brutes - and they fit the level range very well (CR 10). Ropers (CR 12) can be cool, if you play up the weird intellect. Myceloids play the "creepy mushroom" card pretty well, but you will have to scale their powers or add thematic class levels (CR 4 only).
I'd try to keep every creature out that could be encountered elsewhere - makes the Darklands more special.
