2e: What Happens when you fail with Crafter’s Workshop?

I just rolled two fails with Crafter’s Workshop, the boon says I don't spend 4 days before making a crafting check, so what happens when you fail? Do you get to try immediately? Do you have to wait before trying again? If so how many days do you lose? I think this boon requires some clarification, since there seems to be a disconnect with some GMs on how it works.

Here's the boon's text:
Your friends in the Envoy’s Alliance share crafting materials and collaborate to create new items more efficiently. When you Craft during Downtime, you do not need to spend 4 days at work before attempting a Crafting check. However, your fellow faction members expect your assistance in return. After slotting this boon to reduce the time needed to Craft an item, you must keep it slotted until you have finished crafting that item.

Good question. Hadn't considered it before.

That last sentence does kind of trap you into using it once you've made your first roll.

I'm betting it's being addressed in the new Guide update that Tonya said is right around the corner.

When its come up before in one of the games I was GMing, I considered it 1 day lost of down time, try again. I think the player felt it was fair too. I agree it needs clarification, though. I could also it see it still taking 4 days, but awarding progress on success for those four days.

I think you roll downtime in 8 day increments?

You roll Earned Income in 8 day chunks, not downtime in general. (Downtime in PFS2 guide)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

This isn't about Earning Income, this is about Crafting items using the Crafting rules.

I like either of NielsenE's suggestions.

In my opinion, losing a single day makes the most sense. The crafter of Envoys Alliance are helping you out to make the progress quicker, but there's a limit to their help where you shouldn't be able to make multiple attempts per day. Losing 4 days just wouldn't make sense since you have't spent 4 days. You would mess up the potion you were making then sit around for 4 days for what?

Its not the others setting it up for you while you're on an adventure, it's them helping you enough to eliminate the 4 days of set up a single person would need.
