Wound affect and Stamina Points

Rules Questions

Exo-Guardians

Good day, recently in my home brew campaign one of the players was hit with a weapon with the Wound capability that resulted in their leg being severed. The player argued that because they still had Stamina points that they should not have suffered such a terrible wound. I went and re-read the stamina rules from the core rulebook and it does sound like if you still have stamina, your just taking "flesh wounds" and not real injuries.

I could not find any rules that state that critical effects bypass stamina. Just wondering what folks think, how do the Paizo developers see Wounding as a critical affect and its relationship with stamina points.

Thank you,

Sgtsplat

Losing a leg sounds pretty fleshy to me...

Seriously though, stamina does not have any rules protecting you from critical hits or critical effect. The wound weapon property does not require it to deal hit point damage to function.

Therefore, your player lost his leg even though stamina points are measure of 'flesh wounds', that hit was real good and severed his leg anyway.

Fortunately for him, a fully functional cybernetic replacement runs about 100 Cr.

Yeah, Stamina Points do *not* let you ignore critical effects, or any other "cause extra harm on damage" effects.

It seems like this really shouldn't come up often, though, since Wound only triggers on a crit. How often is someone going to be critically hit with a Wound weapon and *not* be knocked into HP?

It is kind of weird from a versimilitude standpoint that someone can simultaneously lose a limb and yet not have taken any 'real' physical harm at the same time, but there's nothing about it within the rules that keeps it from working out that way.
