Mirror Image question

Rules Discussion

Does this spell need to be heightened in order to stay relevant? Or will the level 2 version do just fine throughout his/her adventuring career.

Mirror Image doesn't have a heightened effect.

Really wish it had a heightened effect to where simple failures do not remove mirror images...

I was asking because a lot of spells don't have heightened effects but require heightening to prevent certain abilities ie. Nondetection. Would a level 2 Mirror Image be safe from a True Seeing?

As I read the counteract rules, non-heightened mirror image would be countered by True Seeing except on a crit fail. But only for the caster of True Seeing, so Mirror Image would still protect you against anyone who was not using True Seeing.

This.

As an illusion, it can be decent to Heighten vs. counteract, except I would say not enough to bother. Heightened to 4th+ means you're swapping out a Stoneskin and at 3rd I'm not sure there's much point (especially given the spells there which remain useful into high levels).
It's better to have a variety of defenses since there will always be creatures that can target around a Mirror Image anyway. And at 2nd Mirror Image works since there will nearly always be other creatures who use only sight and can't counteract.
