Horizon Walker and Boots of Friendly Terrain

Is there any official word on if Boots of Friendly Terrain work for a horizon walker without levels of ranger?

Very strictly it looks like no to me. The HW's favored terrain "works exactly like" the ranger ability, but we have no statement that the HW counts as a ranger. My guess at RAI is that these should work for any character with favored terrain, but that is a guess at RAI.
