Loving Arueshalae

Wrath of the Righteous

So, something I've wondered: one of Arueshale's possible penances is falling in love with a good-aligned mortal, so far, so good. Yet she also still has the energy drain which kicks in whenever she engages in an act of passion with someone, and the book says if she drains someone to death she automatically becomes CE again. So, will she and her lover have to just be celibate until she turns CG and loses the energy drain? Or can she turn the ability off?

Shadow Lodge

It'd probably have to be chaste love, blowing kisses & waiting 'till marriage. Even lovers need some personal space now and again.

Or use protection, by which I mean get a spell or something that makes you immune to energy drain. I forget what could work.

Death Ward.

But, more likely, its a relationship without an sexual component until she is fully redeemed. Heck, maybe the couple will prefer it. Who's to say?

I thought the books actually went into this when I read them. Am I wrong? Saying "they'll have to wait until she's redeemed, etc."

Can you make a ring of death ward? It's not listed on the SRD but there is a ring of freedom of movement which is the same level so I would assume you can.

Up to the GM, technically. I don't allow custom items in my games, but if I was inclined, I'd price it quite high because Death Ward is one of the most valuable protective buffs in the game.

In my game, that will be one of the major hurdles of the relationship. I will Play it that being intimate is still something Arushaele craves very much, but knows she should not act on. And it will be the Players role to convince her that true love is not contingent on having sexual intercourse.

If it comes to it, I will go into the old "good" Vampire Trope - she will want to stop the drain, but it is really difficult for her to do so (she is a creature of Passion, after all).

My wife handled it by making me take a chance by kissing Arueshalae, essentially our love had to overcome her nature. Since Arueshalae had my assistance, we only needed a roll of 11, but she rolled a 20, so we hit 35 on the DC. My wife's way of putting it was: "You remember the line from "The Princess Bride" about the best kisses? That." And then my wife and I spent the remainder of the adventure path shamelessly flirting through the characters.
