1. Being locked in the guardhouse for 30 minutes might be out of character for some players. One player in my game was playing a character who is apathetic towards loot crit failed the initial recall information. So she was set to believe that there was a ceremonial armor in the guard house. Generally in previous games she would have shrugged is she would not seen it within the first ten minutes but was locked in there for 30 minute minutes. This left a player doing nothing for to more turns as other players moved on to other buildings.
2. Thank you to the writer for scared pathfinder, there is nothing like seeing a whole game store turn around to the sudden scared yelp. (Bwu hahahahah)
3. Why are there no NPC pictures for the Venture-Captain and Lazzar?
4. Stat blocks and encounter mechanics split between 4 different pages is kind of annoying and slows down combat. I generally have to run combat off of my Laptop and an iPad in PF2E, but this was a little much.
5. Can we get non-labeled maps in the Scenarios like Starfinder. Sometimes it is easier to print an 8.5x11 map in exploration mode than lay out a large map. Placing an 8.5 map with trap markers seems a little obvious.
Great game though, thank you

1)
Did the character in-game share the information about the ceremonial armor with the party? If so, I'd be perfectly happy having someone (not that character) spend their 30 minutes searching before giving up. So _someone_ still deals with the effect of the failed roll, but not necessarily the character who rolled it. I also like using the 'everyone who wants to roll/GM rolls for everyone who wants to and then synthesize a lump-sum information dump of correct & incorrect information' so that particular bits of the information don't 'belong' to any one character.
4)
Agreed. I use the paper form, so I can have the encounter description, and the appendix for the tier side by side, but that does start to consume more space than I like, with also needing notepad or initiative tracker, etc. There's also the minor issue of 'sections' not starting on facing pages -- ie if the appendices always starts on an odd number page, and same for artwork, you won't end up with artwork printed on the back side of an appendix. Which helps if your trying to pre-split the pages into scenario/appendix and don't have to keep remembering that the encounter you need is on the back of the art your currently displaying to the PCs.
5) Yes that would be nice too.

The two newest scenarios (1-04 & 1-05) place scaling, hazards, and tactics alongside the stat blocks in the appendices. It's pretty nice!

Yes they are (if they fail the save). And yes, that is a tough condition that they cannot shake during this adventure, due to lack of rest opportunities.
I recommend giving them a strong warning that should they try to hustle, they run the risk of potentially being tired and at a mechanical disadvantage for the entire adventure...

albadeon |

Understandably. I've heard GMs say they don't like running this adventure just because of that one condition.
Personally, I'd give a fair warning, but if the players still risk it, they have to live with the consequences. Noone's forcing them to hustle.

They technically shouldn't have any glimpse of what they risk, they don't know how ingame days or hours the adventure lasts. This would amount to slightly spoil it.

albadeon |

Well in this case they know from the briefing that it's only supposed to be a few hours and resting over night is highly discouraged by the society. That combined with not telling them the exact condition but calling it "tired" or something similar, in the context of informing them that this amounts to taking the very long way around and having to hurry to make up the time is fair enough, I think.
But yes, generally try to avoid spoilering.

Boon Team Player - Reaction: Trigger An ally fails a check on which you aided; Effect The ally can reroll the check and use the better result.
Issue: Aid is a reaction. So is this boon. As worded the boon does nothing. Was it a typo and supposed to be a free action?
Also the boon makes no actual mention of checking one of the 3 boxes when used though common sense can cover that.

Not so. It may be virtually impossible to use in Encounter mode, but the the triggers are different so you are not reacting to the same thing.
Aid: Trigger An ally is about to use an action that requires a skill check or attack roll.
Team Player: Trigger An ally fails a check on which you aided
You react to the ally's state of being about to make a check.
They roll.
It fails.
You react to the failure.
They reroll.

Bigguyinblack |

But both reactions are connected to their action.
During your turn you spend an action preparing to help.
During your allies turn they spend an action performing the action you are attempting to Aid and your reaction is Aid.
If they fail the check you aided on you don't have a reaction left to use the boon.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

That's why Blake's Tiger said its virtually impossible to use in Encounter mode (unless you have multiple reactions that aren't locked to particular uses), but likely usable in Exploration mode.

Bigguyinblack |

Unless the Archives of Nethys is leaving something out, The Aid action isn't mentioned as a one of the usual exploration mode options and the entry for Aid only covers action/reaction.
Even the Aid part of Adjudicating Actions from the Gamemastery Guide doesn't cover aiding as an Exploration option.
So yes you can use common sense and rule that even though nothing explicitly says you can aid an Exploration option you could still try that dc 20 check on say Perception or Survival to help someone else and then use the boon to let them reroll.
But let's be honest, The most likely answer is the language on the boon was either a typo or a misunderstanding of how the Aid action works.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Even the Aid part of Adjudicating Actions from the Gamemastery Guide doesn't cover aiding as an Exploration option.
Probably because that subsection is in a chapter discussing Encounters. And while the Gamemastery Guide is not a legal rules source for PFS but could give you a sense of the developers thoughts on the question, this example is quoted directly from that section...
but to help someone perform a long-term task, like research, the character has to help until the task is finished.
That's clearly not something happening in Encounter mode.
So, for me, your reference gives me more support for Aid working outside of Encounter Mode/turn-based interactions than for your assertion that the rules simply don't say anything about it, which is also incorrect. The CRB has this to say about Triggers, explicitly talking about Reactions and Free Actions.
If two triggers are similar, but not identical, the GM determines whether you can use one action in response to each or whether they’re effectively the same thing. Usually, this decision will be based on what’s happening in the narrative.
It talks about a limit to 1 per trigger but nothing to do with "per turn." In my opinion, "about to attempt the check" and "failing the check" are different enough triggers to warrant the intended use of the boon.
Example: Bob is going to Treat Wounds on Ned at DC30. Joe says, wait, I want to Aid. Bob accepts Joe's Aid, both roll. The total roll fails. Joe says, I want to use Team Player reaction. Bob rerolls his check.

Another question I had regarding fame/reputation:
My party achieved the secondary goal and thus receive the two additional reputation in the Envoy's Alliance. I also noted that we gained an additional 2 fame once I reported the session. I didn't see the fame mentioned in the adventure, but it got me to thinking. Is fame just the sum of all your reputation? Are there other ways that fame and/or reputation can be gained that make them diverge?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The additional reputation granted by faction bonuses does not give fame.
Also you spend fame.
If the PCs recover at least five of the relics from
Goldenflame and the college, they each earn 2 Fame
and 2 Reputation for any faction associated with their
currently slotted faction boon. For the purpose of
fulfilling the primary objectives, the statue of Jingh from
area B9 counts as two relics.
Secondary Objectives
If the PCs correctly identify two of the Pathfinders and
return with their remains, they each gain the Team
Player boon on their Chronicle sheet, earn 2 Fame and 2
Reputation for any faction associated with their currently
slotted faction boon.
Faction Notes
Envoys’ Alliance: If the PCs fulfill the secondary objective
and return with Larraz alive, the Envoys’ Alliance is
pleased with the PCs’ efforts. Each PC earns 2 additional
Reputation with the Envoys’ Alliance faction, in addition
to any other Reputation earned as a result of completing
this scenario.
So if you complete primary and secondary you'll get 4 fame, 4 rep with whatever your faction is and 2 rep with Envoy's alliance.

Thanks for the response!
I'm wondering if something is wrong with the reporting system, but more likely I'm just missing something. No where is the word fame or reputation mentioned on the online reporting tool. Everything is just labeled prestige. I think that is a First Edition thing, but I'm not sure.
I can either get the full reputation with excess fame, or correct fame but not the full reputation. For the record, HeroLab seems to do it correctly, but the Paizo reporting is either not working, or just confusing me yet again.

There should be a checkmark about earning 2 fame with Enoy's Alliance up by where the GM enters their information.
In all other boxes, you should 2 or 4, which is the reward earned from the adventure.

The BBEG having less than 30 hit points is a problem for me. Everytime in run this game everyone ignores everyone else and concentrates on Ralthis, who has less than 30 hit points.
He's gonna go down relatively quickly with just about any party with some degree of wit, but the strategy that provided a very engaging final encounter for me was to allow the champion, which honestly should be the most dangerous and threatening monster, to charge in and draw the most attention. Leave shamblers in-between the champion and the spellcaster to slow down and distract anyone trying to run past the champion, but don't forget that it is equipped with a reach weapon and can break off to protect the necromancer.
