It seems to me that setting up game rules to "break" some in-setting thing or other - like now "signifers can only join the Order of the Gate" is a bad move.
?

In order to get Armiger you need the Order weapon and Heavy Armor. For a Wizard that's three General Feats...four General Feats for anything but Gate since you need a martial weapon for the other Orders.

Even the three Feats is tricky to get to in a reasonable time frame, making the four unlikely in many ways. Saying they can only manage Gate is hyperbole, but it's not from out of nowhere.

I understand where the hyperbolic conclusion originates. It comes from a rules setup that requires spellcasters to spend an inordinate amount of feats in order to qualify for signifier. A requirement that did not exist in PF1 and that IMO breaks Paizo’s promise that If you could play it in PF1 you can play it in PF2.

The proficiency system in this game is a tortured mess.

Indeed it is.

Does Champion Dedication give you all the proficiencies you need?

Not to mention oddities like Unconventional Weaponry making it easier for a Sorcerer to get proficiency with a Katana than with a Longsword, as long as the Sorcerer isn't from Tian Xia.

Not sure I see what you’re getting at here. Can you explain?

So? Armiger itself is a 10th level feat unless you are playing a human and invest both Heritage and Ancestry Feat into getting Armour Proficiency.

It is an 8th level feat if you are willing to spend your 2nd, 4th, and 6th level feats on Champion multiclassing. That should become a more appealing option when they publish rules that allow lawful neutral Champions.

Then your only issue is getting the necessary weapon proficiency.

The feat Unconventional Weaponry is the humans' answer to the similar weapon familiarity feats from other ancestries. The requirements for the weapon you choose are as such:

Quote:
You’ve familiarized yourself with a particular weapon, potentially from another ancestry or culture. Choose an uncommon simple or martial weapon with a trait corresponding to an ancestry (such as dwarf, goblin, or orc) or that is common in another culture. You gain access to that weapon, and for the purpose of determining your proficiency, that weapon is a simple weapon.

Katanas lack a trait corresponding to an ancestry, and if you are from Tian Xia then they are not common in 'another' culture, so they are technically not a valid selection for the Sorcerer in question (but would be for a Sorcerer who was not from there) - they would need to buy martial weapon proficiency somehow to wield one effectively, and also don't natively gain access to it (so they couldn't buy one at character creation without approval, for instance).

Hey fellas. I'm glad that you're engaging in discussion. But this thread is to leave questions about the next shows topic. And to repeat our message that we don't typically answer super-specific rules questions for various reasons. We encourage you to bring those types of discussions to the rules section on the forums.

As a reminder, this Friday (Oct 18, 2019) will be about the Gamemastery Guide if you do have any questions about the upcoming book.

Wayfinders

Is the book going to talk about giving out non-monetary rewards, such as custom rules elements or access to uncommon/rare ones (like items, spells or archetypes), favors with individuals or organizations, that sort of thing?

Also, what does the stat block for a nation or settlement contain, and will we see them in future Lost Omens or adventure books moving forward?

What sort of new alternate rules will be in the book? Alternate Spellcasting rules?

Thanks for the questions RiverMesa and zergtitan! Lyz and I are excited to hang out with all of you in a little over an hour and talk GMG.

How would you handle handing out giving out feats as a reward?

Would you compensate other members of the party with their own options to do so if you did?

Would it be best if everyone had their own side story that amounted to this as a reward on completion if you did?

Would you not do it at all?

Do you include this as part of wealth if you did?

Would it be better to just attribute the skill via an item instead of a direct Feat?

If it’s too late for tonight I totally understand and since I can actually not make the stream I will have to catch the video, but it was a discussion that came up recently on the forums so I figured I’d toss it in.

Also if you could clarify how a rogue might scout ahead and report back to his party RAW? Had this happen and Scout the exploration tactic didn’t really feel like the same thing.

I'm stoked! I hope I can make the stream that night!

I am looking forward to today's stream.

I want to ask questions but I am too excited to focus on one.

Hopefully I will get 10 minutes to read my Grimore to Refocus and use a Focus Point in the Live Stream.

Hi Payton,
I hope I am asking this question in the proper place. Could you give an overview of what hardware you use for the paizo twitch streams. I have seen lots of online guides for how to record video game content, but there aren't many streamers playing tabletop games with multi-camera setups.

To that end, what cameras do you use? What microphones? I have also seen you, on camera, pressing buttons on something that looks like an elgato stream deck. Do you use one of those to control your camera feeds? What computer(s) do you use to edit and store all your video?

Thanks for the info! I am sure many other aspiring streamers would like to know what stuff they'll need to get started.

Hi bud! This question would be best for its own thread maybe. But I can give you a quick run down on how things are set up here.

We use 4 Lumix G7 Cameras for Live Play setups. And Lavalier Microphones to capture our players. Although in general, I recommend actual microphones on studio arms for table setups. As your viewers will usually prefer good sound with crusty video than good video and bad sound.

So for the microphones, what I've been using recently are the Shure SM58s microphones. We like to use these for our panels due to how great they are on stage due to sound not being picked up that much for whatever is behind them. Mostly due to their cardioid dynamic range. This helps a lot when you have a very busy office!

As for the button pad I used. It's an Elgato stream deck. You can use it to switch scenes and do tons of stuff with XSplit or OBS.

In the future, we should have an entirely different setup for our streams. And I will be more than happy to make a guide for potential streamers once we get it all set up.

But overall my pointers are to focus on is:
1. Good sound. Get some decent microphones for your table. Can mount them via a studio arm that's clamped to your table. Along with a shock mount for the microphone to reduce table noise.

2. Have your players and yourself be genuinely excited and have the capacity to show it on stream. Excitement is contagious! And people like to see you having fun!

3. Play like people can only see you. But explain things if they can only hear you. If you get a natural 20 on your die roll. Give out a cheer and state that you got a natural 20 plus any of the modifiers that go with it! Even if you fumble and get 1 one, be sure to express that it's a bad situation for your character. But in a fun way!

With those 3 points, you can grow and adapt from there.

Sorry for the word vomit but I hope it helped a little bit! And best of luck.

Question for this week's Playtest Retrospective

What was the most surprising feedback you received?

Q: Will there be any such books, or areas advancing into this style of
tech/Genre and the like in the new P2E yr 4719+ big G. World we all
love?

With Guns a Blazing in the hands of Marshals in the (NEX vs GeB) side of the pathfinder world, I was surprised to find your PURE STEAM (AKA Steam Punk) and other such books set in an ALT-"USA" and not squeezed into the vastness of reg Pathfinder!
