Weapon Proficiency - Where is it?

Rules Discussion

I see a few places where it lists what training levels mean to skills and such. Do they mean the same to Weapons and Armor proficiencies?

Example : I have a human fighter, STR 18 for +4 so right now I attack with my sword with a +4 to hit and damage. Then I need to do proficiency in Martial Weapons is Expert. Isnt Expert +4 then +1 per level for a +5?

So at first level my Fighter can hit with a Longsword +9 to hit?

I cant find this in the book, just trying to wrap my head around character creation.

That's correct: +4 for STR, +4 for expert proficiency, to which you add +1 for 1st level.

The fighter really is head and shoulders above other character classes when it comes to hitting stuff. Which is good, it's his specialty, hence the expert proficiency.

It's the same system all over the game - the aim is that you just need to learn in once and apply it everywhere.

Ok I thought I was right, but couldnt find Weapon Proficiencies anywhere in the book. Strange since the rules are solidly there for almost everything.

I tried to use HeroLab Online, made the same fighter but it gave me only a +7 to hit with weapons. So they have some work to do there I suppose.

The Proficiency system is explained on page 13. It's a little hidden since all of the kinds are lumped together. Searches for specific types like "weapon proficiency" or "armor proficiency" will most likely miss this paragraph.

Proficiency

Proficiency is a system that measures a character’s aptitude at a specific task or quality, and it has five ranks: untrained, trained, expert, master, and legendary. Proficiency gives you a bonus that’s added when determining the following modifiers and statistics: AC, attack rolls, Perception, saving throws, skills, and the effectiveness of spells. If you’re untrained, your proficiency bonus is +0. If you’re trained, expert, master, or legendary, your proficiency bonus equals your level plus 2, 4, 6, or 8, respectively.

I must admit I missed proficiency including your level initially. I knew the final score had level if you were proficient, just missed that first time around.
