So? In character you had no reason to believe he was gonna suck at officiating a duel. You guys accepted it, he did ask you in character.

Why exactly are they being punished for something that was going to be handled safely in the sim rooms regardless of what their motivations were?
When Ace stated what his intent was and how we got to where a duel was needed, then that changes things most of all for Staff. Its not about being a "good sport" its about doing what is needed for the students well being.
I'd also love to know how Royston 'suspected anything remotely like what Ace went through, since I bet he wasn't there for any of it.
He did not know the specifics he only suspected, remember the events in the dinning hall with aces and his girl friend, also once Ace said what was going on with him, 2+2=4.
I feel that Roystons actions where right given other actions and information, most of all from Ace, come on its stopped being mediating a conflict when Ace said it would be ok if he was beaten up so he could feel better. That is very unhealthy and no way a Staff member would let it go on.

I thought the detention was a bit much, but otherwise Royston was within his rights, IC, to end the duel. I am having Nanami question the detention IC to address that. Either way, I don't think Royston while be asked to supervise more duels in the future. :P

I actually have a bit of a problem with this statement as it's a big assumption. In fact, there are a number of teachers who would allow it. They simply have different philosophies than Royston does. Now, they would also likely refer Ace to the psychologist and insist he start taking meditation classes, but they would allow the fight within the SIM environment where no real harm can be done.
The taking out of aggressions in a controlled environment is a tried and true psychological tool, is it not? I think it's called catharsis?
Hew and Lang did that,we used the SIM room to create enemies so we could release some frustrations via combat, and we found a way to work together as a team in as well.

The Magic-al one wins. I fail to see how a duel to vent is at all unhealthy. Ace and David have a history and all that Ace said before the duel was 100% true. The only reason Ace cast the anti-magic field is he's hoping to draw David in a bout of fisticuffs, more or less.
I can't read or post in game right now, but I felt the need to explain some here. Could this have been handled a bit differently, with Ace requesting a solo SIM? Sure, but this way had much better RP.
There is no sadistic/masochistic mindset here, just a teenager looking to seriously blow of some steam against somebody he dislikes, but also respects as a competent opponent.

Yeah, Bastion is my favourite game since FFXII. I can find very few flaws with that game. It's very powerful, and I have high hopes for Transistor :D

You guys do know that Ace's default appearance is actually an insanely intricate and complex disguise, as per when he first showed up and David tried to True See his real form, right? I just don't make the disguise check every morning because 1) that would be tedious 2) new days happen way too far apart and its hard to remember and 3) Most people can't beat his disguise check anyways.
