I'm now trying to talk a kid out of getting a horse mask for their Midsummer Night's Dream prom.
But,... WHY would you talk them out of that?!?
;)Honestly, thats brilliant. I wish MY fellow High Schoolers had been so educated.
My fellow classmates were appalled that I had read both the Iliad and the Oddessy PRIOR to being required in HS english.
(I read them in grade school. For fun.) ;P

Because I like the kid and don't want his date to murder him?

I'm a pretty proud dad right now.Is his band on Bandcamp/Soundcloud/Youtube, or similar?Right now they only have their first release available for online purchase or streaming listening. It's a little rough in places and it's from before when my son joined the band. They don't have any decent videos (a couple that were recorded with someone's cellphone and posted to Youtube) but that's it. They have a great one from when they opened for Bon Jovi last spring but they haven't put in on YT yet, for reasons my son cannot fathom. It kinda pisses him off to bring it up...lol.
At any rate, here's a link to their page. You can just click on the Music header and it will take you to the songs from the first album. The band is called DeFrance. Their sound, in my opinion, is a mix of Tom Petty, Thin Lizzy, The Band, and Grand Funk Railroad with a little bit of blues added in. They're a very classic rock sounding band, but though they do a few covers live there are none on their recordings.
Oh! My son plays bass in the band. He's the one in the left rear in the yellow coat and sunglasses. As soon as the new album, "Second Wind", is available I'll let people know about that one, too. 'Cause I'm all about that bassist.
Reminds me of Humble Pie/CCR or similar - muscular bluesy/country-y rock. It's good work!

Someone put my head on straight. I'm debating trying to sit down and write some short plays for drama club so I don't have to faff about with royalties or the fact that I don't have enough interested boys to cast all the male parts properly.
How many of those roles is the gender actually important? I get needing a male for the groom, best man, and fathers, but how many of the rest need to be male?

I'm fine this year - every girl who auditioned said they were fine playing a guy.

Coolness, go with what works =)

Thanks, I'll pass along the comparisons. He'll be glad you get the gist of what they are doing. In fact, they're talking about learning Humble Pie's "I Don't Need No Doctor" as one of their occasional cover songs.

So update on my life and how stuff I had nothing to do with, impacts it:
(And no this isn't about the current situation with the US Government.)
So I as might have mentioned, I had to take my car in and wasn't sure if I would be able to pick up in time on Saturday to join John Napier for GASP Game Day (GASP = Gamers Association of Southwestern Pennsylvanian.) Now when I called on Monday, they (Goodyear Tire and Auto Center) told me their alignment machine was down for repairs. So that meant I couldn't get my car alignment done or checked. But since they do fix tires (like always) I could get a tire rotation. The break check was standard, but I told them I wanted them to be thorough in checking it just in case. (I had taken it to the local dealership for an oil change and they mentioned something about the breaks...)
So fast forward to today (after dealing with a new client and their 3 week old golden doodle puppy). I took my car in...and before we got back they called to tell me I'd need to spend 1400 dollars because the back brakes are not just shot, but just about non-functional. So when my mom heard this (because she answered the phone) she was like "Don't do anything else other than the rotation." Mostly because we were in shock and disbelief about how bad it was...
So we call our local garage that we take most of our cars to. They would see if Goodyear was pulling our leg. (It didn't seem that likely but who knows?) So come Tuesday I will be car-less for that time while they sort this out.
So...yeah. Probably a good idea I didn't drive my car up to GASP Game Day this Saturday...
Also regarding my mom's surgery, nothing been settled, but I assume by June she'll be okay...or at least back to semi-functional self.

So, I need some ideas. I don't use the advice forum much because a)it takes forever to get a response and b)it takes forever to get a response. Plus you guys know that my players are stuck in the "The Land of the Lost" at the moment.
So, so far they've encountered Pakuni (which just watched from the treeline and ran when approached), Sleestak (from which they escaped from), a Tyrannosaur (which they drove away with a 10d6 Fireball), and a quartet of Ceratosaurs that nearly did them in but they managed to fight off *takes a deep breath* aaand nearly killed themselves in a pylon by touching red and yellow matrix stones together and causing an explosion. Trying to reassemble the now scattered matrix gems they started a typhoon, that didn't really build to full strength until they left the pylon. When it hit hard they sought shelter in a narrow cave, but only 7 of the 8 PCs could fit inside, leaving the Sorcerer outside, huddled against the rock.
Inside the cave, they encountered a medusa and if it weren't for Mythic Surges to bolster their saving throws half of them would have gotten stoned. Meanwhile, outside, the wind blew a tree down on the sorcerer, who took 50 points of damage. I gave her a saving throw against death by massive damage (again, bolstering the roll with a Mythic Surge) she survived. She could dig herself out so she cast Teleport and went back to the campsite of the first person they encountered after arriving.
*gasp* So, I need some ideas for things they can see and do or run from that point to the end of the chapter. I plan to have them meet a Tengu Druid who came to the Land years ago and has accepted his life there as a guardian of a mountainside forest. So, any ideas, kids? I've hit a wall tonight.

You could have them a) end up in a winter realm and run into Krampus, b) a forbidding looking wood that's home to a Whisperer and/or c) One of the Great Old Ones stuck on an island.
Those are great ideas. However, they're not quite big enough in the britches to do those things! I guess I should've mentioned that their APL is 11 with 2 Mythic Tiers.

A Colour out of Space should be a suitable challenge at their level. Maybe even two, or give it some minions, given the Mythicness. Will-o-Wisps, perhaps?
This guy might be fun as well.

Dear Lord, the Jorganth even gave me the willies. I'm going to save it for future reference, though. The Colour Out of Space will actually fit in with the appearance of the Druid. Perhaps he could be unable to combat its blight by himself and hopes to enlist the aid of the players.
Thanks for the suggestions!!!

So I feel like I did a lot today. We got the tree decorations remove, the tree down and out, the house cleaned and no more signs of Christmas in the house. So yeah. Mom's happy. I'm okay with it. I just wish someone else would do it. :p
Also my dogs are nuts because I took them out for their usual 6:50/7:00 pm walk...and then they started chasing each other and snapping because of bone. So naturally I took them out side in my shoes that have holes in them...and it wasn't fun. I don't mind snow, but slush and shoes with little to no traction isn't great.

Hearth trolls, small, cunning, urban trolls.
Man, you just keep churning out the good stuff.
| DungeonmasterCal |
I live with near constant pain in one or more areas of my body at a time. Coupled with heavy depression it makes it very hard to get motivated to do things around the homestead. I'm thinking the Christmas tree looks just fine where it is. I might change the lights with the coming and going of the seasons but so far taking it down, disassembling it, and putting it back in the box hasn't happened. Not sure how to make it do that. But at least it's pretty!

I would love to have a natural tree, but the very first one we put up after our son was born trigged a sinus reaction in him. So evergreen trees kinda mess with him so we had a plethora of different sized and styled artificial ones since. I love the smell of a live tree. I'll always have memories of going out on the hills of our farm looking for the perfect red cedar tree and then bringing it home. Think I'll stop now. I'm getting verklempt.

The second line, 'LE Small giant' made me laugh at the incongruity of it all. But yeah, very cool, also, finding a neat design space that's usually occupied by domestic fey. They seem like the sorts of creatures you'd see in a Guillermo del Toro movie, or more adult Harry Potter-like universe.

Ugh. I hurried and marked if incorrectly. Obviously it should be Humanoid (giant)...
And the case of Small giants? That's the result of trolls being classified as giants instead of Monstrous Humanoids...

I have come to the conclusion that I a going to run D&D characters with skills and feats. The system is more intuitive and will use their monsters except for goblins. I like Pathfinders interpretation of goblins a lot better. I like the artwork& Design of Pathfinder more, but the system is clunky. The playtests are better with Proficiency system were everything calculated the same. The classes need some work though to capture the spirit of the game.
Both are deficient in helping the Pcs forming their characters.

Drejk wrote:And the case of Small giants? That's the result of trolls being classified as giants instead of Monstrous Humanoids...Nah, I loved it. It was just fun that the the creature type of 'giant' could logically apply to a size small (or smaller) troll.
One day I will write up pygmy trollkin as a Small Humanoid (giant) PC race... Possibly with Strength bonus.
I already wrote up one Small race with Strength bonus anyway.
