Distracting artwork appearing in the background of the webpage? Paizo, tell me this isn't intentional!

Just today I'm seeing some new annoying web behavior from the paizo site. There's a faint piece of artwork in the background. It's sort of like wallpaper, except that it doesn't move with the rest of the page when I scroll. Very distracting. I hate to contemplate the possibility that this is intentional on the part of the paizo team, but if it is, c'mon, seriously? This is making it harder to read your web pages. Not to mention all the *real* issues with website functionality, like the inability to edit our campaign pages. I don't want to be one of those endless internet whiners, but I've got to say this is very disappointing.

Yup! I see it too!

However, campaign info tab editing seems to be working now.

Oh! Thank goodness! It's not just me!

I absolutely agree that this isn't a good change.

The artwork seems like it's cool artwork, and the concept isn't inherently bad, but it absolutely is suuuuuuuuuper distracting and hard to focus and/or read.

Also, the only person I could see on my phone (an iPhone using Safari) was Quinn - the art shifted a little in the background, but I couldn't tell that there was more to it than him. On a desktop (Win10, using Chrome) I see more of the picture - I thiiiiiiiiiiiiink it's Quinn, Merisiel, and... uh... Alain, maybe? (Hard to tell for sure, but I think it's Alain) ... looking down at something they all clearly hate and may or may not have a spider-leg sticking up. Also, there seems to be a nice kitchen piece, or maybe torture rack (hard to say which) on the right?

Anyway, it's a nifty concept, and the art is good, but it's really distracting when put together this way. I'm really sorry for the negative feedback - I know you guys all work so hard! It's just too rough!

Tac, looks like they just fixed your issue with not seeing the full image!

Edit... Or not? Seems to be variable. Sometimes the full image shows on my phone, sometimes it's a half image. Either way, it always stays on the same spot on my screen.

Here's some screenshots.

Yeah, those pictures are pretty tiny (my phone is dead so I can't look on it now), but the focus on Quinn and little besides was what mine looked like. The image looked narrower and shifted around, but juuuuuuust a bit and at a different rate compared to the foreground.

As an aside, I get the reason it's "cut" the way it is (at least, as it appears to be on Chrome) so that the top of the picture neither interferes with nor is hidden behind the blue Paizo banner button up top, but that just makes it rrrreeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaallly weird when it lines up with exactly nothing else in the website interface experience.

I'll give a textual recounting of the Chrome experience, at least.

The scroll bar on the right is separated from the image by a weird bit of "white space" that has its own entirely unconnected and unrelated lines (the edge of the words "Messageboards" from "All Messageboards," the arrow and end of the bar of the little dropdown menu currently reading "Forums," the scroll bar itself, the weird large blank "box"-like outline that surrounds this text box that I never noticed before, but now can't unsee, the same sort of box that surrounds the posts up above, the "Recent Threads In..." box down below - basically nothing) and also doesn't match up with anything on the left side, though there are fewer "things" so it's not as big a deal. Even the upper part isn't justified against the big navy banner up top (when the banner is present - it remains adjusted for and unjustified with the place the banner would be when the banner isn't there, such as anytime you're not at the very top of the screen).

This all makes everything... messy. And though the background is light, it's still absolutely packed with lines and movement which really distracts from the line movement and flow of letters in a written piece. I can absolutely read around it (and relatively rapidly - I don't notice a significant slowdown of reading, though it may well exist), but it absolutely is not pleasant to do so because it is a huuuuuuuuuuuge amount of more work.

Full disclaimer, I am a big fan of a cleaner, whiter background - much easier on my eyes, in general - but I can understand if you feel the need to spice up the look of the place to attract more attention or whatever. Not what I want, but I do get that as a desire, if necessary.

This issue is unintended - it appears to be a CSS issue on certain browsers and form factors. We are currently looking into the issue.

We apologize for the disruption.

We've traced this and several other problems back to a bug in the deployment process for our styling rules. We anticipate resolving this issue this afternoon.

Cool so this isn't a Chrome issue. :) Thanks for keeping up on it!
