Halfling Cavalier Stealth

I guess this goes here. A Halfling with Distracting Shadows can use bigger creatures as cover for Hide and Sneak. If you're on a horse, and get it to move somewhere, can you use it for mobile cover?

My goal here is to have the horse walk up, then I reach around from stealth and Sneak Attack.

No, I don't think it would work if you were on the horse. You'd need to be behind it. You might still be able to work something out if you're moving with your horse rather than riding it (edit: on second thought, I don't think you could; commanding an animal would likely break stealth). Although it would be much simpler to have your horse walk up then flank with it to sneak attack if you're not riding it.

you can use a larger creature as cover.

that doesn't eliminate the need to actually be behind said cover.

so, you can follow your mount from behind and do that, but not ride it and do it.

Found another way to get same end result. Gang Up rogue feat gives me flanking as long as the horse also threatens.
