City ships

General Discussion

I had the thought of running a campaign that roughly amounts to an entire society going to space in a ship built around their city...

While I could hand wave away the whole "ships that large shouldn't even be ON a planet yet alone built there" thing, I realized that the ship rules as written don't really have anything currently available for any number of passengers or crew above 620.

While I COULD probably just ignore that and treat it as a normal dreadnaught that just happens to have more population room than it has any right to, and more amenities than you could likely add through expansion bays... It's a bit of a shame that the only colossal sized ship is never going to have enough guest quarters for everyone.

Anyways, if anyone has mentioned the idea of having a city ship in this game, point me in the right direction.

Supercolossal ship size is in one of the Dead suns books
It would probably be what you want, no limits on expansion bays and facilities are big enough to handwave everything. Hangers are for Medium size

so much stuff. but it would have to be a tier 20 or more build

But still no Drift Engine tier 2+ for such a big thing, so...

Its slow
like really slow

Any idea which one of the books it is?

If I had been buying the modules as they came out this might not be an issue, but I can't exactly buy them all at once.

I have the first one though, so I know its not that one.

It’s in AP6, Empire of Bones. Those rules have seen use considerably in my home games as bases of operations; kudos to the writers!

Well one of them bigger war ships should be big enough to house a city. Today's luxury Cruisers are said to be big enough to be a city in and of it's self. Retro fit a battle ship into a habitat ship.

Supercolossal didn't exist, when I created my third party book Starships, Stations and Salvage Guide, but we called it Station sized, and though third party we've include a frame for a station sized ship (city sized ship).

This doesn't really need to fit in the ship rules at all. Hand-wave it. Treat it like a moving space station rather than a ship

Heck there's already a city ship in the game - Idari.

Yeah, those ships from Dead Suns 6 are what you are looking for.

Much like my Ultimatum, they can hold an absurd number of people.

They can basically support as much crew as you want because you can just keep adding modules to them as there is no limit to how many they can have. Given their base size is at least 6 miles long its very effective for a city ship/mobile base type platform.
