Pathfinder (2nd edition) & Starfinder crossover AP?

Hello,
I was driving home from work the other day and I was thinking, IF PF 2e is at all similar in rules etc as Starfinder... how COOL would a crossover AP be? (Obviously time travel would be involved, with the Starfinder characters going back in time to pre-Gap Golarion (perhaps at the behest of the Starfinder Society) to find and retrieve a certain item, or perhaps witness a certain event (maybe the Society’s archives are incomplete and they wish to have a firsthand account of the historical occurrence) ... and I’m just brainstorming here, obviously if this even has a snowballs chance, it’s up to the developers at Paizo).

Maybe it’s my love of comic books and the “annual” crossovers that used to be a BIG deal back in the day ... but I do think this would be a neat idea. (Of course if the rules are too far apart, too different ... it may not work at all).

I didn’t feel this was a “Starfinder” post nor strictly a “Pathfinder” post ... that’s why I placed it in general discussion. (If that was wrong, I’m sorry).

So, what are your thoughts (whoever might be reading this)?

And ... discuss! ;-)

Pathfinder second edition is a very different game than Starfinder. Starfinder is much more similar to original Pathfinder.

Hmm ... I guess it’s all in one’s perception then Zaister ... because I feel Starfinder is nothing like Pathfinder, to be honest.

Oh well ... guess I’ll see what PF 2e is like ... and go from there. (I still think it’s a COOL idea ... and I just might take a shot at home brewing something).

I think it’s very, very unlikely there’ll be anything official. They seem to me to be going out of their way to emphasise that the two games are distinct entities. No doubt there was value in some of their IP which motivated setting Starfinder in “the same” universe. I think it’s best to think of it as one possible PF future, though.

A crossover “event” would muddy the distinction they seem (to me) to be trying to maintain between the two properties. Albeit while still leveraging some of the popular features of PF’s Golarion.

I'm just saying the differences between Pathfinder second and first edition are much bigger than the difference between Pathfinder first edition and Starfinder.

Well ... I hear you guys, and I guess I NEVER really expected to have a Pathfinder/Starfinder crossover AP ... (not from the developers anyway) so ... if it’s something I’d like to see/like to do ... I guess I’ll have to make it so! ;-)

Of course, I’m about to begin GM’ing Reign of Winter ... (that was the near unanimous decision of my group) for my “return” to running a Pathfinder game.

If my feelings are as strong about a crossover AP a year or two later ... I’ll see what my creative juices can work out.

Thanks for the input/opinions ... even if I didn’t necessarily agree. ;-)

You'll never get anything official, for the reasons the other posters have stated.
But I actually think it's a really fun homebrew idea, you could certainly do it yourself but it could be a lot of work.
It would be intersting what ruleset you would choose, or if you would even swap rulesets as you went from the past to the future.
Maybe you could actually mash together a Pthfinder 1e adventure path & a Starfinder adventure path ? Like find a point where you can swap. I guess that famous point in Regin of Winter you could go to the future, instead of you know...

Hey there,
Regarding that crossover ... we’ll I decided that as of now I have no plans to buy PF 2nd edition (I have PLENTY of 1e material) I do plan to continue with the Pathfinder adventure paths (at least for the first AP of 2e ... if only to see how easy it is to “reverse engineer” to 1e ... a LOT of murmurings and muttering seem to imply 2e is going a completely different direction, that it won’t be at all compatible) but I’d still like to see the 1st AP of 2e.

Anyway ... I’ve decided that after I conclude Reign of Winter ... I’m going to homebrew my own Pathfinder/Starfinder crossover AP. (Set it in a 25-30 year future, for my own reasons (mostly to allow for “legacy” heroes/characters ... offspring of past PCs).

It’s looking pretty HUGE at this point a 10 part AP incorporating both settings (separately at first, then together for the last two parts). And I like what I’ve come up with thus far. When I have a little better idea/ or a more complete adventure “blurbs” for each part ... I might share it, more for the fun of letting you guys read it, and MAYBE for some critiques/feedback/constructive criticism.

Cheers

Haha ... now I’m going to do an about face ... on the surface, it seems that PF2E and SF rules are more similar than not. (Although I don’t have the Core Rulebook yet) just from little things I’ve seen (mostly from “Hellknight Hill”).

So when I finish Reign of Winter, I’ll run one of the short SF adventure paths (likely Against the Aeon Throne) just so my players and I can get familiar with the game. But then dive right into my PF/SF crossover.

The closest you're likely to get to this is the linked "king xeros of old azlant" scenarios, where the starfinder scenario follows up the plot point of the pathfinder scenario

Hi Elegos,

Thanks for chiming in, but I should have been more clear. The Pathfinder/Starfinder crossover adventure I’m talking about is something I’m home brewing ... nothing I expect Paizo to do.

So, I’ll get pretty darn close actually. ; )

But thanks (in retrospect) for the suggestion of King Xeros!

I searched it and I’m actually considering it.

Peace
