In the run-up to 3E, WotC coordinated with various IP-holders in order to assure 3E/d20 adaptations of various key fantasy and sci-fi worlds: Diablo, Star Wars, Wheel of Time, and Call of Cthulhu d20 were all published by WotC. KenzerCo's Kingdoms of Kalamar and White Wolf's Warcraft book were jointly produced with WotC and licensed to display the D&D brand. Dune, Middle-earth, and Star Trek d20 were planned but fell through.
I realize that Paizo has said (something like): "We don't intend to fill the niche of WotC/Hasbro."
But what if Paizo tried to? ...Tried to offer PF2 as a universal, cross-genre system...tried to evoke a "Second Renaissance of the d20 System"?
Yeah, there'll be a Pathfinder-Compatible license: "We will be offering a Compatibility License for Second Edition, including a new Compatibility Logo. Information on that will be announced in 2019, including details on how publishers can get early access to the finished rules." (from the Playtest FAQ)
But beyond the Compatibility License, I'd be glad for Paizo to be proactive, and in the build-up to PF2, reach out to a bunch of key RPG companies and licensed IP-holders (such as Cubicle 7 who hold the Middle-earth, Warhammer, Dr. Who, and Lone Wolf licenses), and see if at least a one-book PF2 adaptation could be jointly produced, for many existing fantasy and sci-fi settings. If mutually profitable, they could be followed by further product - much of which could be restatted versions of existing products, like Cubicle7 has done for the new Middle-earth 5E product line vis-a-vis its The One Ring house system.
It'd be a question whether Paizo would require all these adaptations to use the PF2 PHB, or if they'd be standalone PF2-fueled games specially approved by Paizo, or if Paizo would produce genre books (PF2 Sci-Fi, PF2 Modern) which would serve as the basis.
If you were King/Queen of Paizo, which worlds and settings would delight your whim? Which companies would you broker deals with?
Here are some ideas:
Key fantasy settings presently published via another TRPG system:
*Game of Thrones PF2 (in coordination with Green Ronin)
*Middle-earth PF2 (with Cubicle 7) As an aside: a few years ago, I wrote to C7, and suggested that C7 make a 5E adaptation of The One Ring, simply as a way of expanding the reach (and sales) of Middle-earth gaming. On the message boards, I was universally jeered.."it'll never happen...C7 already has a house system...you're wishing for a pony." Yet, it happened.)
*Conan PF2 (with Modiphius)
Some biggies which haven't been given TRPG treatment yet, which would require Paizo producing the book themself, or subcontracting it to an existing TRPG design studio who's familiar with PF2.
*Harry Potter PF2
*Legend of Zelda FP2
*Dark Tower: The Worlds of Stephen King PF2.
*Pokemon PF2
Also:
*various popular computer/videogame RPG and Anime settings.
*Any and all worlds listed in Appendix N.
It'd be cool to make deals with some of the smaller but classic fantasy TRPG worlds whereby their IP would could be eternally referenced as being part of, or connected to, the Golarion Multiverse. Such as:
*Tekumel PF2
*Glorantha PF2
*Lankhmar PF2
*Trollworld PF2
*Wilderlands PF2
Examples of sci-fi settings:
*Star Wars PF2 (w/ Fantasy Flight Games)
*Star Trek PF2 (w/ Modiphius)
*Doctor Who PF2 (w/ Cubicle 7)
*Westworld PF2 (currently a popular television series)
*The Handmaid's Tale PF2 (currently a popular television series)
Examples of horror settings:
*Call of Cthulhu PF2 (with Chaosium. Unlike the recent Cthulhu PF1 kickstarter, this would be a full adaptation of CoC)
Examples of superhero settings (maybe a joint project with Green Ronin, to make a PF2-iteration of Mutants & Masterminds):
*Marvel PF2 (or specific movie/tv tie-ins)
*DC PF2 (or specific movie/tv tie-ins)
So those are some examples of a PF2-fueled, universal TRPG renaissance. What's your pleasure?

I have to check out Mutants and Masterminds, been hearing great things about it for years now. For superheroes, I have a soft-spot for TSR Marvel Super Heroes (FASERIP), really captures the genre/vibe for me.
For a d20/PF system, I would love to finally see a Dune treatment. There are quite a few Star Wars RPGs this point, but no Dune (except that cancelled game that amsot came to be).
I also want a d20 Ralph Bakshi's Wizards.

I think that some IPs are going to be better modeled with other systems. For example Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones are a better fit with DnD 5e's bounded accuracy scaling.
More high powered fantasy such as Marvel/DC fits better with the Pathfinder scaling.
With that in mind my favored IPs to get a PF2 supplement would be:
*Stormlight Archive Novels (by Branden Sanderson)
*Codex Alera Novels (by Jim Butcher)
*Dynasty Warrrios Video Game (Because rule of cool smashes historical accuracy with a sword three horse lengths long)
EDIT: In all three of those IPs the most powerful warriors can face down armies alone. That is the sort of story that the Patfinder scaling allows and that 5e struggles with due to bounded accuracy. I think that is the niche that Pathfinder fills.

This is a good point, especially as PF2 is going for seriously epic/big numbers.

Do you have any idea at all how you would go about this? I'm a huge pokenerd that's been thinking of converting various video game elements to PF since I picked it up, and I can't see how this would work well. Even ignoring the distinctiveness of pokemon's combat system, it's not something that easily fits into a class-based system. There are hundreds of distinct sets of abilities and stats.

I wouldnt want any. I like to have separate systems for my gaming needs. I use Traveller for sci-fi, PF for fantasy, and Call of Cthulhu for horror. Im probably an outlier in this way, but I dont like Savage Worlds, BRP, Gurps, etc. because I cant grok what they are trying to do.
To be a good lad and play along though, I think Sam Raimi's Evil Dead series would be fun. Though PF is probably way too crunchy for it.
Starz new show Counterpart would be hella cool setting. Imagine the GM playing an alternate universe version of your character! Also, the spy genre needs a winner.
Mech Warrior, but I believe this is getting done this year already.
Mass Effect. It would be my favorite RPG on the citadel.

Good point. For this exercise we can assume or propose genre-based expansions of the PF2 SRD, which would serve as a basis for various IPs which fit in other niches beside super-epic, big-number fantasy. For example:
*PF2 Medieval (low-powered historical or subtle fantasy campaigns with no or little magic, and with adjustable cap-levels for Proficiency (no Legendary) and/or Character Level)
*PF2 Modern
*PF2 Sci-Fi
*PF2 Supers
*PF2 Anime

There was Pokemon Junior adventure game produced by WotC. Ryan Dancey stated that it was a big mistake not to expand this into a full-blown RPG.
Some persons have conceived some sort of Pokemon d20 game:

If these enthusiasts have taken a crack at, surely Paizo or some PF2 third-party design studio could do at least as well.

Final Fantasy, honestly. It is over the top so fits Pathfinder better than 5E, it mixes fantasy with guns and epic martial feats and so forth, and it could potentially map pretty well. The tactics and MMO games in particular even have a much broader variety of spells than the mainline entries, which meshes better with PF having lots of spells to choose from.
WotC/TSR's own Planescape and Dark Sun and Eberron fit Pathfinder better than they do 5E.
Tangentially, Starfox or Metroid could be done in Starfinder, since both are the kind of scifi / fantasy blend that doesn't fit well in other "harder" scifi game rulesets.

I don't agree, Dark Sun is more gritty, sword and sorcery/sandals, and Planescape, you are rubbing shoulders with all sorts at all levels (BA helps with this), and is less about amazing combat powers and tactics, and more about philosophy and weird locales, but I am with you on Final Fantasy.
I have no real opinion on D&D systems for Eberron, as I don't really dig it (reminds me of the sort of campaign setting a buddy of mine would come with when we were 14; dInosaur-riding halflings, indeed...).

If you are asking for dream settings, I would love to see setting books for Sterling E. Lanier's Hiero books.
Post apocalyptic, mutated races, psi-powers, and mutations.
Menacing groups opposing all life, lost civilizations, mutant beavers, Morse, hopping steeds, and more.
Sort of a combo of Gamma World and Conan, with a strong Thundar the Barbarian vibe.

Yes, this is what I was talking about when I mentioned Ralph Bakshi's Wizards, it's like Gamma World, but with elves, demons, fairies, and magic. Fun trivia, 4th Ed Gammaworld (best version), released in 1992, was the debut of the d20 system of ability scores and BAB (called THAC, originally) as it is today.

I don’t know about any prospect of negotiating to develop with existing intellectual properties, but I do know that I want Pathfinder 3rd Edition to be an unholy hybrid of Pathfinder 1st Edition with Mutants and Masterminds . . . .
This would be amazing. Custom spells and abilities via M&M and 3.P's crunch factor would be awesome.

Agree. Whilst I like post apocalyptic and related settings for RPGs it is no fun playing the oppressed victim of those settings. I could possibly enjoy the setting if it was centred around being agents helping people escape to Canada.
I'm not sure if it was mentioned previously, I really like the Terminator setting. If PF2 could accomodate that I would be seriously impressed.

Not to derail, and it's not so much that I move on to any game system (I will play AD&D, 3rd Ed/PF1, 5th Ed, gladly, with the right DM), but I find myself becoming less enthused about PF2, as a whole, as the weeks go by; now starting to think of it mostly in the vein of what I can steal for 3rd Ed/PF1/5th Ed.

Oh yeah, well Paizo was basically an auxiliary service arm of WotC at the time - a semi-attached design studio of Hasbro. They had nearly all their eggs in one basket.
It's heroic how Paizo turned some bitter lemons into rivers of lemonade: "Forget you! We'll make our own D&D!"
The lost Star Wars license is closer to the concern. Well, in spite of the abrupt loss, was it a profitable experience? Paizo has a different and bigger footing now. And the Star War fanclub magazine wasn't tied into other Paizo products (even the RPG-related fanclub articles just supported WotC's own Star Wars RPG). Whereas a PF2 adaptation of some mega-popular IP (Star Wars, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Harry Potter) would be synergistically supporting their own core product (PF2), and building their own player network.
I'm not saying they *should* shift many or most of their eggs from Golarion into licensed adaptations, but it'd not be a huge stretch for Paizo to give it a shot. I mean, some studios are having success with multiple licenses: Green Ronin, Cubicle 7, FFG, and Modiphius. And Paizo could even make a deal whereby those studios themselves wrote the books. And unlike those studios (whose house systems aren't the second-most popular system after D&D), Paizo is in a position with PF2 to possibly evoke a cross-genre "second d20 rebirth".

This thread has got me thinking that Pathfinder 2 should go down the steampunk route and just own that genre from an RPG point of view.
Fast forward Golarion a couple of hundred years and then it wouldn't feel strange to have alchemists and goblins as core. You could still have your wild areas that are more primitive to facilitate your standard D&D style quasi medieval fantasy games.
