Base speed bonuses and armor speed reduction

Rules Questions

Do boots of striding and springing add their bonus before or after armor speed reductions? They say they add to the base speed, so my interpretation is the armor reduction applies to them, but I have seen plenty of people using them with med and heavy armor and not reducing the speed bonus (IE having 40 move speeds with barbarians in mithril plate with the boots, instead of the 35 they should have based on the carrying capacity/armor speed reduction chart here (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/alignment-description/carrying-capacity).

I just wanted to clarify this before I finalize my character for play at my current level, and I couldn't find it buried in the forums or the FAQ Thanks in advance for the help.

There are rules for reducing increased movement speeds when wearing armor HERE. If a human (30ft) barbarian (+10ft untyped) with boots of striding and springing (+10ft enhancement) was wearing medium or heavy armor, their speed would be reduced from 50ft to 35ft.

It's not a commonly known rule. I see it missed a lot during mounted combat. I'd point it out during your next session, but obviously don't try to be antagonistic about it. I'd also suggest using either the link I provided or the Core Rulebook. My initial reaction is to disagree with anything that d20pfsrd lists, since they're notorious for changing things. Your fellow players probably had a similar reaction.

Yes. See the table on page 170 of the Core Rulebook

There's a few possible explanations for this:

1. Is it a mithril breastplate? That doesn't slow you down.
2. Is it a dwarf? Dwarves aren't slowed by armor so 20 (base) + 10 (barbarian) + 10 (boots) = 40 feet.
3. They didn't read the table and are incorrect.
4. Other rarely used rules bits.

Thank you all. That is the way I Assumed it should be, but I like to clarify rules I see not being used right before I point them out to the GMs. We have a few rules lawyers who nitpick stuff like that to their advantage. And a few who argue common sense against the rules. Just wanted to clarify. And thanks again.

Kevin, Some of the situations have fit the dwarf or breastplate situation. Mostly I was clarifying for my human fighter/living monolith/Barbarian with the boots. I am by far the slowest in the group (same group each session for a module) and despite I put out more damage than anyone else It takes me twice as long as anyone else to get into combat since they all have 40+ move speeds or flight.

Also, it looks like the +10ft to base speed from the boots is an untyped bonus so it should stack with any other speed enhancement (e.g. haste).

These boots increase the wearer’s base land speed by 10 feet. In addition to this striding ability (considered an enhancement bonus), these boots allow the wearer to make great leaps. She can jump with a +5 competence bonus on Acrobatics checks.
