Stonecunning and creatures made of stone

Rules Questions

GMing double check before I run a related PFS scenario.

Does the dwarven Stonecunning apply to noticing Creatures made out of stone? Would it matter if they were invisible stone creatures?

Liberty's Edge

They are creatures, not stonework. So it don't work by the RAW of the text. RAI? Probably it should.

For the adventure in question, specifically wondering about a Mimic pretending to be a Stone Sarcophagus and an Animated Stone Object.

Invisibility isn't part of the scenario, but it's worth keeping in mind because it's a common encounter (like if the dwarf got blinded, either of the above would be regarded as invisible).

I could see an argument for the animated object, mimic and maybe gargoyles.

While not RAW I agree that RAI it would avoid an argument to make the roll. Given the object in question it likely won't matter, and the game will run smoother.

If the creature is attempting to pass itself off as stonework, I would allow the benefit. Perception is as much about noticing what isn't there as much as what is there.

Invisibility doesn't matter. You're a dwarf. "That don't smell like any stone sarcophagus I ever smelled."

Alright, thanks for the help. Hasn't come up yet, and might never, but I figure planning for dwarves in a PFS group seems entirely reasonable.
