Introducing existing characters to the Council

Advice

As I mentioned previously, I wanted to bring my characters into Pathfinder from D&D. They're currently playing through the beginner box (Lost Mines), and I think I've a way to teleport the characters into Chelix. However, they'll be level 3/4 when they arrive, which would be pretty much past book one. Should I move them into book 2 automatically with a brief summary, or would it be better to start from the beginning, and make adjustments in difficulty?

I don't have experience with the Council of Thieves, but I think adjusting the difficulty would take a fair bit more work than you'd enjoy. I say start them at Book 2 (making sure they're appropriately leveled and geared first) and try to have them stumble into a notable, friendly NPC that's associated with both Book 1 and Book 2 that can get them up to speed.

IMO, a party of heroes died at the end of Book One, successful though they were. Perhaps they were assassinated? And these new arrivals from another world may just be the people to help out.

Connect them with Janiven and Arael, do the intro pitch as written without the ambush and say they have a mission to see how well the group can work together, then jump to dealing with the Bastards. It gets them in the setting and completes a pivotal moment for the Children of Westcrown. Then a side job or two to get the characters to be invested in the gig and straight away to the six-fold trial.

If they have a tough or easy time with the bastards then you can adjust a few things in the side jobs to help balance everything.

Thanks! I'm toying with the idea of them being gathered by Janiven, then quickly brought up to speed and hearing about adventures 'that didn't do as well'. I may introduce some downtime to allow them to adjust to their new environs (and pick up new traits as well)

I would do the downtime after theythey've had culture shock for a bit. Culture shock RP. You don't get these opportunities often.

Thanks @Shorticus-I'll work on that. I don't know how familiar you are with D&D beginner box, but they've just cleared the Redbrand hideout and slayed Glasstaf. I've an instinct to make the Black Spider someone exiled from Chelix and is creating the portal back. This should take them up through wave echo cave and level 4-5. Any suggestions otherwise?
