Anhur |

Anhur; these people are supposed to be your teammates in real life. If your Character has a slow start being friendly with other Characters, well, that could be interesting via development; but I would prefer not seeing comments in OOC between you and the other Players which make me think you're not seeing them as teammates and allies
"...And Anhur tries to look like someone who knows to handle a spear. We will see if he really can."
Did you just say this to my face? In Susrahnite?
I see you are RP-ing your 7 charisma.
I was expressing surprise that his character would say something like that, but simultaneously justifying it with the fact that he does indeed have 7 charisma. It's unusual to see from a player, but it would make IC sense in this case if that's how he's playing the dumped CHA.
Also, he previously mentioned our comparative sizes, which I pointed out, so I wanted to make sure that, as a player, Bjoern was aware of the way I was attempting to portray Anhur. For instance, I've had players fail to recognize that I was trying to play an older, hardened assassin, instead IC-ing that I was playing a troublemaking teenager. I try to get those misunderstandings hammered out early so we all recognize our characters for what the players mean them to be.As I believe I mentioned in the recruitment, I really don't mind inter-party conflict, even unto non-lethal combat, as long as it stays between characters. As far as I know, everything in Gameplay has stayed between characters. If it seemed to you, Bjoern, that I was calling out you as a player, I apologize. I was surprised by the dynamic of the remark, just as I'd be surprised if Bjoern threatened or tried to rob Anhur. But that doesn't give me any beef with the player, as long as it makes RP sense. If it doesn't, we should try to work it out here. But in my perspective, everything so far has, and I suspected and intended no ill will.

She Who Knows |

My impression, for what it is worth, of the early posts by both of the male characters was they reflected characters that were not civilised and had lower then average charisma.
They therefore came across as rude, ill mannered or a bit odd. It fits both the character and the World of Zoth. It wasn't anything that upset me as a player at all.

Dain GM |

Apologies all - I was pretty tired when I wrote my posts. When I re-read them I was amazed how poor the grammar was, as well as the repetition of synonyms and general terms.
Next time I post I'll try to make sure my writing is done better.
For my part I'm rather surprised - I honestly didn't expect the group to do a split-party adventure so soon... That said; good hunting :)

She Who Knows |

I don't think you have anything real to apologise for.
As a young stupid man I went to northern china, close to the russian border, there we used various dungs for fires.
On the question of how long dung will burn, I would have thought it would not have the density to burn for a whole night. You normally need thick pieces of wood to burn for a long time.
But I don't have any experience with burning dung. And we could well just get someone to stoke the fire.
What I do know is the best thing to do is not build one huge fire, but a few smaller fires we sleep in the middle of.
And remember, build a man a fire and he will be warm for a night. Set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

Anhur |

...build a man a fire and he will be warm for a night. Set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life.
This is brilliant.
-Posted with Wayfinder

Anhur |

Well yes, but even a wood fire won't burn all night unless you build it right and/or stoke it. I'm guessing a dung fire leaves less room for proper building/stoking. But again, you're the only guy here with actual dungfire experience.
PS - Dungfire needs to be a witch spell in this game.

Bjoern Ghostbear |

Not something to get ladies, trust me.
We usually had two baskets for a kang.(A kang is a bed made of tiles and you let the fuel burn through the night to warm you. Well the lucky on it, the unlucky in front of it. If stacked correctly many hours.
Also I think we need a nightwatch anyway.

She Who Knows |

I absolutely agree about the need for a watch.
Bjeorn- the trip to the Chinese/ Russian border sounds interesting and intense.
Where are you from and located if I may ask?

Tairin of the Veils |

I, too, agree with setting up a nightwatch roster.

Tairin of the Veils |

Anhur, since recruitment only closed yesterday, perhaps Dain GM will allow you to swap one of your feats. No harm in asking.

Anhur |

It seems gamey to snatch it up now when we're in a situation that specifically calls for it, but I literally hadn't even considered it until now. I'm not sure why.

Ariarh Kane |

Anhur: I think in this case and being so early on in game, the GM may be fine with it. I’m sure he’ll let you know if it’s doable.
She Who Knows: Tairin will definitely respond to you. I’m just waiting to see if the ladies get out of the Priest’s tent okay before I continue with the RP. Once Dain posts, I’ll get onto it.

She Who Knows |

That is cool Ariarh.

Dain GM |

Several things:
1. Anhur, I will allow you swap that Feat if you’d like; however, the change won’t kick in formally until morning. Therefore, whatever Feat you currently have I'm ruling you’ll continue to have until morning. As of “Tomorrow” In-Game you’ll be able to swap the Feat no problem.
2. I did mission work with the Lakota Indians in South Dakota. Burning “Buffalo Chips” was a common way to build fires on the plains. Meanwhile, this is why the camp has collected horse and camel dung as well as some other brushwood to help build fires in a pinch. They have a modest amount of fuel, enough to get you through the night if you huddled around a fire, but you may not want to do that until you know each other better.
However; I was under the impression that Bjoern and Anhur were less interested in finding a better fuel source than they were interested in heading away from the camp and sort of demonstrate a little “machismo” between them (as in – What, you’re saying you’re too scared to get some firewood? Ha! What kind or warrior are YOU? – that sort of thing). I hope I didn’t misread those intentions when I wrote my response.
But whether I misread your intentions or not, Anhur and Bjoern – you are currently at the edge of the woods half a mile from camp. In case there was errors on my part I’m going to say that you can turn back right now and return to camp with no problem other than wasted time – or you can get some firewood.
What do you do?
3. Meanwhile, Tairin and Red – it’s true the Nomads shared their food with you by the fire, as it is a time-honored custom to share food between host and guest among nomadic peoples. This tradition is also demonstrated by the Priest in his tent. If what he says is correct that he’s important in Belthaar then it is likely you may see him again. Eating his snacks and then bidding him a quick – “Well, that was really great – see you again sometime…” – for what it’s worth, it may not matter much, but I’m certain he won’t forget it. However, if you’re sure you want to leave, please confirm it before I toss up a response.
4. Given that you don’t know each other very well, will you be “RPing” your Nightwatch policy or have you all decided that you can trust each other?

Ariarh Kane |

Since Tairin and Red didn’t eat anything nor drink anything, I’m having trouble seeing what the issue is. He offered hospitality and you yourself wrote he would see it as disrespect if they didn’t partake. They didn’t ask him for the snack and drink. I’m kind of confused -when has a guest ever had to pay the host upon his offer of hospitality?
I’m fine with Tairin leaving the Priest’s tent. If he needs to be paid for one fig and one date, she’ll leave coin to compensate him for his trouble or she’ll just leave the two items behind in the tent and go on her way.
Once the ladies make their way back to Bjoern and Anhur, night watch duty can be discussed/arranged via rp.

She Who Knows |

I think Dain's point is that we took a bit of his fruit and suddenly decided to leave, which is a bit rude.
Still, I don't trust him and that is what I think we should do. I mean he gave us wine with an excuse not to drink himself. Maybe he only has 2 cups and doesn't want to drug or poison us. Maybe.
And DainI re-read the most recent posts and I am pretty sure the two guys decided not to gather wood.
Another question is can I use detect poison after leaving the tent. I am fine either way.
And She Who Knows has decided to trust the other PCs. Certainly as far as sharing watches. Travelling alone is much riskier than trusting these guys who seem reasonably trustworthy. They are hardly going to turn out to be cannibals or anything like that. :P
Finally, Anhur our GM will allow you to take cat's eyes effective tomorrow. Nobody in the party has it and it would be good if somebody in the party did. It is your character of course.

Dain GM |

Red: To be fair - if they didn't want to gather wood, that's totally cool. But given their initial posts I was pretty sure they wanted to; hence my rather lengthy response to them via that spoiler post.
However, sometimes I can misunderstand things via text - so if they really don't want to gather wood I'm going to say that they wandered from the camp for a bit; they saw what I wrote in the spoiler, then they decided they didn't want the wood and came back to camp. It will cost them nothing but 30 minutes of walking around, but despite that they'll be back at camp without any incident. On the plus side, the details they witnessed might be useful on the trail in the next day or so...
Ariarh - the Priest would never have suggested you pay for anything. After all, Guests don't pay for things; they're gifts from the Hosts. But it is correct that he was a bit surprised that you'd leave so quickly. However, if you'd still like to leave then that's totally fine - I put a bit of RP via his response for what he'd say if you go. That being the case, if you'd still like to leave, that's cool; if not, well, continuing to remain in the tent might be interesting, too... :)
Red: You can use Detect Poison on leaving the tent if you'd like. However, I'm probably going to drop that Cantrip after In-Game Tonight as it is pretty powerful for an unlimited use 0 Level Spell... but yes; you're totally free to use it as much as you'd like the rest of the night.

She Who Knows |

Ariah- on this bloody priest. I am really suspicious about how he wants us to eat or drink something. So I say go.
We could both try sense motive before ingesting anything I guess. I will do whichever you like.

She Who Knows |

I have a feline that the feat will prove a prudent investment.
I would have taken it myself but I want about a million different hexes asap.

Anhur |

I think it actually makes a lot of flavor sense for my character so I'm glad to add it. I will miss the feat slot but as long as I can resist the temptation to take an extra discovery every feat after this it should all work out.

She Who Knows |

I want the fortune, misfortune, cackle and evil eye hexes a.s.a.p. No, I want them now. It will really be level 5, then I will really be able to show people what a witch can do. Presumably you will know she is a witch by then.

Tairin of the Veils |

I'm having troubles bringing up my campaign page with all my active games (read this as it brings up an admin error every time I try). I can circumvent it by going to each alias and through the postings, but being on my phone, it's taxing/frustrating. I hope this error clears up soon. Not sure if others are experiencing this technical glitch at the moment. So, if I'm slow to post, that is the reason why.

Ariarh Kane |

Dain GM, how did Tairin fail all three saves when her last save (21) was higher than two
of Bjoern’s saves and he succeeded on all three?
I thought she only failed the first two saves. I’ve read the rules and the DC goes up by 1 each time. Please clarify.
In severe heat (above 110° F), a character must make a Fortitude save once every 10 minutes (DC 15, +1 for each previous check) or take 1d4 points of nonlethal damage. Characters wearing heavy clothing or armor of any sort take a –4 penalty on their saves. A character with the Survival skill may receive a bonus on this saving throw and might be able to apply this bonus to other characters as well (see the Survival skill in Using Skills). Characters reduced to unconsciousness begin taking lethal damage (1d4 points per each 10-minute period).

Dain GM |

You are absolutely correct; I completely misread the rolls and you only suffer from 2d4 Non Lethal damage, too. I’m sorry for that, and I will correct that now.
2d4 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
Sorry for the mistake.

She Who Knows |

I think we will be moving at the same speed if we go at 2 or 3. Bjeon is in medium armour, so will be moving at 20, which is the same as Tairin and She Who Knows fatigued.
I think it is better to wait until 3 anyway. If we go at 2 3 of the PCs will have to make fort saves or become fatigued, Bjeorn at -4 due to armour I think. If we encounter some form of danger that is not good.

Ariarh Kane |

Bjoern took his armour off and stowed it per his rp of yesterday, so he's walking at normal pace without the penalty. But I still think it's good to wait until 3pm as you're right 3 out of 4 of us will need to continue making fort saves and neither Tairin's nor Red's Fortitudes are great.

Quick Note On Spells
After re-reading Resistance I'm not allowing it for something like protecting from Environment's while traveling. As a Cantrip that's something that should be brief - like casting it just before testing to see if something is poisonous, for example - it's meant as a brief, sudden boost; not meant to assist for multiple hours and since Cantrips can be used that frequently, I'm just going to clarify it's limitation for that in the future.
Quick note on Extracts
Obviously extracts are very OP in this game - to keep things more consistent with regular casters who use spells instead of Extracts, please try to limit the Extracts to coincide with the list of spells which are allowed. In short; an Extract shouldn't be able to duplicate a spell that's not allowed to regular Casters.
That said - none of that will effect this combat; that's more for future reference. Good luck with the combat; but be careful - it's going to be a bit challenging...

Anhur |

Do I have formulae inconsistent with that rule? Naturally I hadn't planned on flying or such, but I figured things in the domain of Expeditious Retreat, Jump, Barkskin, etc. would be permitted.

Tairin of the Veils |

I'll be out of town tomorrow (Sunday for me, Saturday for the GM) to celebrate my mum's birthday. I won't be back home until my evening, so I won't be able to post until then.

Anhur |

Please excuse my computer ignorance... I don't know how to create [my icon] if that is what we are supposed to do.
No worries, I got you this time.
In the future, if you'd like to handle it yourself, all I did was to right-click your character's thumbnail picture, click "copy image", then open the combat map and paste it on (using right-click or "ctrl" + "v"). You can then click & drag a corner to resize and click/drag the image to move it around, etc.
Dain GM |

Please excuse my computer ignorance, there is a lot of it to excuse, I could not find my icon on the combat map. Or I don't know how to create one if that is what we are supposed to do. She Who Knows will be standing next to Tairin.
No worries on that, Red. While Tairin and Anhur seemed to have this covered, I'm just tossing this up here a small request to try to keep as much of the questions on the Discussion Thread rather than the Campaign Page if possible. I just find it makes it easier to sort through things a little easier is all, I hope that's okay :)

No worries, Tairin. I will Bot you in the meantime; but I'll wait until everyone has had a chance to act before doing so, that way, if you're on before the others you have the chance to act; but if not, that's okay, too - I got you covered. Also, thanks for letting me know and I hope you have a great time with your family :)

In the other PbP campaigns I am in such questions usually go in gameplay, which is why I did it here.
But I agree with you, gameplay for gameplay, discussion for everything else. :)
