Boosting LoH (Lay on Hands)

Advice

So im running a chosen one paladin in a game and want to make him a meat wall while still giving some damage. I went 2 hand + power attack for the damage, but i dont know all the ways to boost LoH on the meat wall part, right now i got:

Feat:
- Fey Foundling
+2 Hp per dice healed on self.
- Greater Mercy
For an extra +1d6 heal.

Equips:
- Bracers of the Merciful Knight
Boost LoH 4 lvls up
- Inheritor's Light (doesnt seem to require you to follow Iomedae)
+1 HP per dice

Trait
- Envoy of healing (It is linked to Sarenrae, so needs to talk to the GM about using it while following other gods)
Allow you to reroll natural 1s once

Races with fav class:
- Tiefling
+1 HP per dice to self
- Elf
+1/2 HP per dice

This is what i got, on note, my PC is a human follower of Apsu, but all ways to boost it are welcome, this could also help those just searching for entirely new PCs.

Since you only need Power attack and Fey Foundling to start I recommend Variant Multiclass Cavalier Order of the Stars. You boost both Channels and LoH as well as get 1/day challenge and a Teamwork feat to share.

Feats:
Fey Foundling
Power attack
Greater mercy
Ultimate Mercy
Improved Critical (To pair with Bless weapon)

You should be golden

Ultimate Mercy isn't necessary.

I second VMC Cavalier, it's broken when going full paladin.

Beneficent Touch gives you the same trait bonus without having a deity requirement.

Otherwise you covered everything that I have seen while looking for stuff for my own Paladin.

Well we werent using the variant multiclass option in our game, but i will talk to my GM about it, it seems quite a good if im allowed to.

Also thanks for the feat selection Louise.

Well it is indeed a good option if one doesnt want to follow Sarenrae and the GM doesnt allow the trait for all faiths, still if the above are an option, envoy is much better being all day long.

It really isn't but I still think it is cool to have the ability to Raise Dead for free just by taking 1 negative level on an off day. The Negative level goes away after 24 hours. So on off days, it is no biggy.

Btw, im going off thread for a second, but does the Opalescent White Pyramid counts for the Improved Critical feat?

I was running a Falcata with the cheap cracked one in a wayfinder, but to get the feat it seems i would need to either change weapon or pay the feat tax of exotic weapon.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Take a peek at Pain Psychic with VMC Paladin. A Pain Psychic gets Live On, which is Lay on Hands at your psychic level -3. It explicitly stacks with lay on hands abilities gained from other sources. A VMC Paladin gains the ability to lay on hands a number of times per day equal to 1/2 her character level, healing as much as a paladin of her character level – 4.

A level 20 pain psychic with VMC paladin has 18+cha uses of lay on hands that heal 16d6. That's even more healing than the typical Paladin + VMC Cavalier of the Star build. And you're a full caster.

Improved Eldritch Heritage to get the lvl 3 power from the Solar Bloodline

Variant Multiclass with Barbarian. Grab Lesser Celestial totem to add your level to your healing.

VMC Cavalier is better, because it adds extra D6s (which scale with Fey Foundling and other effects), and extra uses.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

If you are allowed 3pp feats, Mystical Healing grants a great scaling bonus to healing, based on Caster Level.
1. +1d4
4. +1d6
7. +2d6
10. +3d6
13. +4d6

It provides extra dice of healing to Lay on Hands (and cure light wounds, Channel Energy, etc.), which synergizes really well with Fey Foundling.

Traits: Magical Knack (paladin) or Magical Lineage (divine favor), Fates Favored

1. Fey Foundling, Power Attack
2. LoH 1d6+2
3. VMC Cavalier Order of the Star, Challenge 1/day (adds +1 morale bonus, +1 per 4 levels, to saving throws)
4. LoH 2d6+4
5. Mystical Healer, LoH 2d6+1d4+6
6. LoH 3d6+1d4+8
7. VMC Cavalier Order of the Star (add half cavalier level to paladin levels for lay on hands and channel energy)
8. LoH 7d6+14
9. Improved Critical or Greater Mercy
10. LoH 9d6+18
11. VMC Cavalier Order of the Star (Tactician)
12. LoH 12d6+24
13. Divine Interference (if you have Magical Knack) or Quicken Spell (if you chose the Magical Lineage divine favor)
14. LoH 13d6+26
15. VMC Cavalier Order of the Star (For the Faith, add Cha bonus to attack roll for 1 round, allies add half your Cha bonus)
16. LoH 16d6+32
17. Greater Mercy or Divine Interference
18. LoH 17d6+34
19. VMC Cavalier Order of the Star (Greater Tactician)
20. LoH 19d6+38

I would double check my LoH math, because fractions are involved and CL for paladins in X-3 or X-1 with Magical Knack (paladin), which is what Mystical Healer is based on, so.....

EDIT: I re-did my math, assuming CL X-3 for the paladin.

19: 9d6+38, 9+cha uses per day
20: 10d6+40, 10+cha uses per day

Conclusions: Tiefling Paladin VMC Cavalier (order of the star) is the best at self-healing at all levels. If you're not a tiefling, then Pain Psychic VMC Paladin becomes the best self-healer at level 13.

Healer's handbook includes the "Injured" mercy for 9th+ level, which grants fast healing 3 for 1/2 paladin level rounds.
