Religious Icon Profession

Advice

Grand Lodge

I have this idea for a concept build around the Icon theme. It's a religious sort of famous. A follower of Sarenrae that goes planet to planet talking about how awesome Sarenrae is.

Basically a televangelist in space, only more genuine about helping people. He's known to the church, and hopefully liked by many, but he isn't the traditional priest or scholar type.

So what Profession skill would that use? Orator maybe? What are your thoughts?

One of the other Charisma-based options for Profession is "video personality." Considering your character's modeled after a televangelist, that sounds right on the money!

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

My Solarion Icon is a video personality, of a religious themed heretic-purging vlog. I considered evangelizing as well, but decided it would be funnier if it was a bit he started believing was real.

While that IS a viable (and probably common) option, I think the OP's character is a true believer rather than just another huckster, and isn't using the credits for their own personal desires, at least as far as I can tell from the OP's description.

<shrug> You ever watch Leverage? Could use con artist skills for good!

Leverage Wikipedia entry

Basically a gang of thieves led by former insurance investigator pull heists against the corrupt and powerful to help the downtrodden.

Side Note: Leverage -- Highly, highly recommend.

Main topic: You might not even need to use a professional skill. From the Skills section:

"A Profession skill should not overlap with existing skills. For example, if you want to play a scientist, you should put ranks into Life Science or Physical Science rather than create a Profession (scientist) skill. The GM is the final arbiter of what is a good choice for a Profession skill and what ability score a given Profession skill is keyed to."

Just Diplomacy could suffice to the skill used to win others over to your cause. However, if you were set on a Profession, "Orator" or even "Actor" would work, as your persona online would require the kind of polish that an actor would know how to exude.

You sir, need Netflix, a couch, and 48 straight hours of the second greatest show known to mankind (after Psych but just before The Office).
