Oversized Weapons

Rules Questions

Can a strong character a weapon as if he would be one size category larger?

For example a medium character wants to wield a great sword as a one-handed weapon.
Does only the -2 penalty of inappropriately sized weapons apply or is there an other rule?

Thanks in advance for taking your time.

you can never wield a weapon that is one size larger than you unless you have feat and class feature that let you do it.

by size larger i mean the size of the weapon, a two-handed weapon for a medium character is medium size, so a small character can't wield it but can wield a longsword made for a medium since its size is small, but it would be an oversize two-handed weapon for the small character and incur the -2 penalty

Or a size Medium Character could wield a Small Greatsword 1 handed. I think a Size Medium Character Exotic Weapon Bastard Sword could wield a size Large Bastard Sword 2 handed only.

In all these cases, the character takes penalties for wielding wrong-sized weapons.

If you want to gain a size-based increase in your Damage, I recommend using regular weapons and then increase your size. An actual Size increase will stack with a virtual size increase, so dip a level each in Ranger and Magus. Cast Enlarge Person on yourself and then use a Wand of Lead Blades. Or Wildshape into an Allosaurus and then cast Strong Jaw on yourself.

Or something.

Effortless Lace is useful for negating the oversized weapon penalty.

No, not without some feature or ability allowing them to do so. You can not normally wield a two-handed weapon with only one hand.

Using a weapon sized for a creature larger or smaller than you increases or decreases the "handedness" of the weapon. Using a weapon 1 size larger increases the size by 1 step(light->one-handed, one-handed->two-handed). If this increase would make the weapon larger than two-handed it cannot be wielded at all.

Similarly, this process can be done in reverse for smaller weapons and you cannot wield a weapon smaller than light.

You could use a Small-sized greatsword as a one-handed weapon with a the -2 penalty, because a Small greatsword is about as big as a Medium longsword and treated as a one-handed weapon for Medium creatures.
