I think I may have used too much . . .

Homebrew and House Rules

Hey guys, I've just built a Demon class. There were some issues. Despite the fact that they have listed abilities they're supposed to get there was no demon class on the creating new races page. So I had to guesstimate a few things. I wonder if this is a bit too much.

Specix Opstikai (RP 34)
Specix Opstikai tend to appear mostly human, but have incredibly pale skin, and often ooze a spiritual slime constantly. There hair color tends to be bright in color, and their eyes are often devoid of iris.

This heretofore unheard of race of demons is often mistaken for a smaller form of Gallu. Those who make this mistake rarely have a chance to make recompense. In truth this species of demon is descended from fallen angels and devils that have made a home in the void. As such they are often seen as half demon, half devil. They are often called the lawyers of the abyss by other demons, but rarely to their faces.

They serve as the abyss’s chief contractors, carrying out missions requiring highly skilled operators, such as espionage, counterintelligence, security, sabotage, kidnapping, rescue, diplomacy, and even acted as emissaries to the pit. They hold allegiance to no faction accept each other, and can be purchased by any. On rare occasions they have been known to swear fealty to a particular demon lord. Once they have accepted a contract they complete it, or die trying. Any who betray a Specix are set upon by the rest. While this group does not possess the power of any faction they are uniquely suited at engineering the downfall even the most powerful demon.

Specix Opstikai detest slavery in any form or for any duration. When summoned to another plane these Demons will take either a) significant information about a Demon Lord or b) magical items equal to at least a lesser artifact, as payment for services, and even then they will abide to the letter of their agreement and nothing more, often searching to exploit any loopholes in the contract to the detriment of the summoner.

Verin, the demon lord Graz’zt’s majordomo is considered to be one of the most powerful of the Specix Opstikai, and one of the few to ever pledge allegiance to any demon.

Your title plus monster creation sent me to a strange place.

Six drops of the essence of terror, Five drops of sinister sauce,
When the stirring's done may I lick the spoon?
Of course ha ha of course.
Now for the tincture of tenderness, But I must use only a touch,
For without a touch of tenderness, He might destroy me!
Whoops too much.

If it is supposed to be equal to the other core races then it has too much. Otherwise, you may need to give us some guidelines on how good you want it to be.

PS: Ignore the RP points. Build the race and compare it to the other races.

Why not just use Tiefling and be done with it? There's even variant race stats for a Demon-Spawn Tiefling. It's already balanced for general play.

If you want to amp up the power level of an NPC (or a PC) look at the Half-Field template, or the rules for becoming a demon.

looks fairly reasonable as a race as an outsider based race

My apologies. I should have clarified what this was for. Basically the PCs are starting to get distracted by sparklies and go off on tangents, so I need to pull them back into the story. This demon race is not a playable race so much as a template for a demon that will show up and hopefully drive home the seriousness of events they are participating in. It will also make them have to make a moral choice and have some other minor helpful benefits to the story.

I don't envision them fighting this demon the first time. Nor would it want to as its been summoned to the material plane and put to work for the Zhentarim (whom they are currenlty opposing) and sees them as possible liberators.

My concern was more whether or not I'd made them too powerful, or conversely not powerful enough for the niche I've envisioned for them in the Abyss. If they are too powerful they'd have taken over, although a little is fine since they are small in numbers. If they are too weak they would have been wiped out. Also any ideas about other abilities you feel are missing from the basic racial concept would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

if its suposta be a template then make it a template instead of a race

Lady-J he means as in a base not like the game term template

i also feel as a demon/devil it should have at will greater teleport

I replaced that with one of its spell like abilities because I was concerned about how many RP I was using.

don't be its a standard ability for most outsiders especially the evil ones

Then it's not a race but a specific outsider.

To the OP: I'm really not grokking why a Chaotic Evil demon would give two figs about slavery. That doesn't sound like a demon at all, not any of the sort that is not unique.

From the sound of things you have a unique creature, not an entire species, especially with the intent of using this demon as a plot arrow. Given its opposition to Demon Lords, this creature is more Qlippoth than demon.

The race builder is for PC races. This is an NPC monster. Pardon my Taldane, but screw the RP.

Use the guidelines for deciding monster CR if you're worried about power differential. Mock up some likely scenarios and see if the party has reasonable but challenging options for dealing with the situation.

If it's not for a player race, then yeah, you don't need to worry about the race builder.

Instead, I'd recommend The Genius Guide to the Talented Bestiary for monster creation, since it provides some outstanding guidelines - including base stats - for making appropriate creatures of pretty much any realistic CR.

It's the only Lawful Evil demon race, and they don't want to be slaves. They could care less if you enslave someone else.

Also I added the at will greater teleport. Thanks for the advice guys
