Daze / Stunlock Rulership Variant Channel Cleric

Rules Questions

Rulership: Heal—Creatures gain a channel bonus on Diplomacy checks and to the DC of their language-dependent and charm effects until the end of your next turn. Harm—Creatures are dazed for 1 round.

Can a creature be dazed by this ability multiple times in succession? (The harm option).

E.G. Round one cleric stuns 3 people.
Round 2 he channels again and stuns the same three people?

Absolutely they can! Now do not forget that the targets receive a Will save to negate the Dazed condition.

Bump. Is this confirmed? Or does anyone have anything to contest that?

I don't see any reason that they wouldn't. However, just to be clear, as a lot of folks seem to have misconceptions about how Variant Channeling works, your Cleric needs to be a Neutral or Evil Cleric of a Neutral or Evil Deity that offers the Rulership option, and you can only use that Variant Channeling when you are Channeling Negative Energy to Harm the Living.

Because Variant Channeling must be taken at 1st level (that you can Channel Energy), and can not be changed, options that allow you to Channel both Positive and Negative Energy do not allow you to use both Variant Channeling options, you only get one, and it must be the one that you chose at level 1.

However, each Channel attempt is a separate attempt, and so requires a different roll/save, and there is no indication that it can not be done round after round.

@ DM Beckett: Remember that the Harm/Heal sections are basically inverted. A Channel Positive Energy cleric can certainly choose the Harm option, and have it only affect Undead (or other creatures who are harmed by it), or if a Cleric selects Channel Negative Energy to Heal the Undead, gaining those benefits in place of the standard healing.

Actually, that is not correct.

A variant channeling either modifies positive channeled energy when used to heal or modifies negative energy when used to harm. When using positive energy to heal, affected creatures gain only half the normal amount of healing but also receive a specific beneficial effect. When channeling negative energy to harm, affected creatures take only half the normal damage but take an additional penalty or harmful effect; a successful saving throw negates the additional penalty or effect but does not reduce the damage any

further. Creatures that would normally ignore the effect of a particular channel (such as undead with respect to a positive energy channel used to heal) ignore the variant effect of that channel.

Bolding mine. So the Heal option of variant channeling only applies when you use positive energy to heal, and the Harm option only when you channel negative energy to harm. So you cannot use the Heal option on Undead when using Negative Energy to heal the undead, because the rule does not list that as an option.

A variant channeler who uses the Harm option on its negative channel can, however, use the negative channel to heal the undead for full channel dice. Same for a positive channeler who wishes to harm the undead. Because those situations are not covered by the Variant Channel rules.

As for the OP's question: Yes, you can try to daze them every round, and they will be dazed for that round as long as they fail the channel's will save. They also take a bit of damage, due to half channel damage, but that is just gravy op top. Remember, that half channel damage is not halved again on a successful save, it is always half channel damage.

But it will require the worship of a Deity that offers Negative Channeling as an option, and has the Rulership entry in his/her portfolio. This leaves only Horus, Ra, and Dispater as choices for a Deity (Iomedae and Olheon do not offer Negative Channeling).

No need for confirming. I am playing one right now in PFS and it absolutely works. As long as your target fails it's Will save you can keep them shut down in a Daze loop. I try not to do it round after round as that could be annoying to your party members. Also, you only get a limited amount of Channels per day, so do not forget about that.

And you are VERY limited to your choice of deity to one of these three; Dispater, Horus, and Ra. Out of the 5 deities that have the Rulership variant channel option available, they are the only three Neutral/Evil ones.

Thanks. This was an enemy for my pathfinder group, and there was concern that as GM I was breaking this rules by doing this.
