Lassoing Another Creature

Rules Questions

So what kind of attack is this? Ranged touched? CMB vs CMD? I watched "War of the Arrows" again last night and when the Mongols attacked a village they captured a lot of people by throwing a lasso around their necks and them dragging them to a place where they could tied them all together and march them back toward their territory as slaves.

Bounce!

From the description I'd say that it uses the same type of attack as a net, and that would be a Ranged Touch Attack.

Very good! Thanks!

The lasso is an exotic ranged throwing weapon.

Lasso weapon Description wrote:
This thrown weapon is a length of rope with a simple open knot on one end that allows you entangle a foe like you would using a net. The DC to cast a spell while entangled with a lasso is 10 + the spell level being cast. An entangled creature can slip free with a successful DC 15 Escape Artist check as a full-round action. The lasso has 2 hit points and AC 10, and requires a DC 23 Strength check to break it. On a successful hit, the lasso tightens; to use it again you must spend a standard action sliding the knot to enlarge the loop.

Since it doesn't specify differently, it uses the normal rules for ranged attacks. However, it does reference the net, which seems to indicate that attacks made with a lasso would be made as ranged touch attacks rather than normal ranged attacks.

If you want to ask questions about the lasso, start with 'What is the range?"
All we know is that it works 'like using a net'.
A net has an effective range of 10'.
Lasso?
Maybe 10', maybe dependent on the length of the rope.

Yeah, having grown up on a farm and forced to go to numerous small town rodeos, 10-12 feet seems about right for the calf and goat roping portions of the show.

That was my thinking, as well. The table entry tells you practically nothing aside from "See Text." The text basically says, "here are a few things you should know about the lasso, but see the net for everything else."
