Well I mean Kang enjoys being around different versions of himself...why should he get all the fun?
But we'll see if Moon Knight stays in Phoenix form or not. Supposedly there's going to be a tournament of sorts for the Phoenix to pick a new host to help the Avengers. I think. (The helping part at least is I think)

I liked this two-part Thor story. His little face off with Iron Man was interesting. That bit about the magic book was cool. I look forward to seeing where they go with it.
The Swamp Thing Halloween Spectacular was okay. I always like horror-tinged Swampy stories. They just fit week. Still, it’d have been nice to have a Len Wein story in there. He was awesome.
The X of Swords crossover continues to build an interesting story. I was wondering how they’d account for 22 parts, but considering they’re 5 Parts in and only have 3 blades and champions, I guess that explains it. The Wolverine story was cool. Always enjoy seeing him go against the hand. Not sure about this new villain, Solem. He seems designed to be irritating. The Storm in Wakanda story was kick ass. She’s always been one of my favorite X-Men. I’d nearly forgotten she and Black Panther had been married.

I didn't. I was sad to see Storm and BP break up AGAIN! Just when it looked like they'd be back together. But...I can't blame T'Challa for making his call.
The Thor story is worrisome to me because it suggests SOMETHING either via time travel or magic is erasing parts of Thor...and some of his story. But we'll see. I did like it when he reminded Tony "Last time we fought, I kicked your butt...but in the interests of being good friends, we'll stick to just pranking each other."

It's sad to see Hawkman is apparently coming to an end. That was one of the few good titles DC had been putting out for a good while now. Hopefully, this ending will be good.
I was shocked to see a single issue story in Detective. I wasn't sure if anyone at DC was capable of something like that anymore. It wasn't the best story, however. I still appreciate them making that effort, though.
Immortal Hulk is still good, but this current story seems to have lost a step. It'll be fun to see what Devil Hulk does to the Leader.
I'm still enjoying the X of Swords crossover, although the three entries this week have been the weakest so far. That Hellions team is sad. I'll never understand why they brought Sinister in on the side of the X-folk, nor why they've made him so f@~&ing annoying. Poor Doug - I don't think he and Warlock have much of a chance. Still, I'm curious why they were hiding Warlock's presence. That thing on the space station with Cyclops and family seems to be setting up something for the future. I've heard they're bringing back the S.W.O.R.D. organization, but this time with mutants. Could be interesting. I hope them having this Light of Galador sword means Marvel is getting back the rights to Rom and the Dire Wraiths. That's where it should be.
Batman's Grave is, thankfully, reaching its conclusion. I've enjoyed the story, but it's gotten a little long in the tooth.
Age of Khonshu was kind of a let down in the finale department. After starting of strong, it fizzled out there at the end. Still, I enjoyed seeing Moon Knight kick some ass.
Thomas Seitz
Hawkman ending is just another sign that people don't necessarily enjoy 'golden age' heroes as much as they used to.
Detective was alright but I'm still miffed about Joker War.
Immortal Hulk is never dull and I actually enjoyed this one a little more than Immortal Hulk #0.
I don't think Rom nor the Dire Wraiths are coming back to Marvel any time soon. Mostly because I don't see that as a huge part of Cosmic Marvel. Which S.W.O.R.D. will be dealing with albeit in defense of Kraoka. Sinister has always been annoying. It's just that he's had competency before. I don't think Hellions are that competent (barring Havok and Kwannon.) I kind of hope Doug survives...but I'm leaning towards probably not.
Age of Khonshu might not have been a tour de force, but I think it offered greater insights into both Khonshu (the god) and Moon Knight himself. Also Black Panther rules. Now we'll just have to see if Old man Phoenix is in the cards for the Avengers or not...

When was "they used to"?
Hawkman's always been a character that's struggled to hold a title of his own - at least since the Golden Age. That's why he kept getting revamped and retconned and his continuity was so screwed up.

Just for s@%!s and giggles, I recently picked up a collection of old Moon Knight comics. Doug Moench was the main writer, with the great Bill Sienkiewicz providing most of the art. I think this one is like volume 2 or 3, collecting issues 24-38 from back in the early 80s.
I wouldn't start regularly collecting Moon Knight until around '89 or so.

Picked up two weeks worth of books yesterday. Just from what I've read so far....
Daredevil continues to be somewhat interesting, but it's starting to really drag. The art is good.
It's nice to see a new storyline in Batman Beyond, but I wonder how all this time travel crap is going to screw up the future.
Werewolf by Night - I was very disappointed. It looks like they're going less for horror, and more for yet another young superhero book filled with boring cliches. The art is....meh. I may give it one or two more issues, to see if it improves. I do not have high hopes for it, however, and will be surprised if it lasts more than a dozen issues.
The Maestro series continues to be interesting. Kind of a multi-part What If story.
Fantastic Four - I'm finding Valeria Richards increasingly annoying. And this new mystery villain was, in my opinion, ridiculously overpowered. And, of course, they continue to screw over Franklin. Personally, I'd like to see them give him his powers back, then remove him from the FF book completely and send him over to the X books.

Finished reading the rest of my books....
Detective - damn, I missed some s@$#. When the hell did Bruce Wayne lose his fortune? And how? Meh, whatever. This was an idiotic story, and it's been an idiotic direction they're taking things in. This new villain, the Mirror, is pretty lame. I'm guessing he's Anarky in disguise - he gives off the same little pissant, worthless punk vibe. I don't think I'll be collecting this much longer.
Savage Avengers - as much as I've enjoyed this book, I kind of wish they'd end it already. Kill Kulan Gath. Send Conan back to his own time. Be done with the series.
They finally had another issue of Conan's regular series. As much as I enjoy it, I hope they finish this story arc soon.
The Last God: Songs of Lost Children one shot was....interesting. That Tyr is one giant a~@!%$&.
Immortal Hulk was interesting, but this crap with the Leader and One Below All s+%& is starting to wear a bit thin.
The X of Swords event finally seems ready to move on to the main event. We've got the champions for both sides. And, gee, what a surprise!! The evil leader behind the golden mask is Apocalypse's long-lost wife. I bet no one saw that coming. And now I'm kind of hoping this ends with Apocalypse and his wife teaming up to teach Saturnyne a much needed lesson in why being a manipulative asshat is not cool.
And...finally....a rarity for me. Something neither Marvel nor DC. I'm an on-again, off-again fan of the Turtles, so I decided to pick up this new miniseries The Last Ronin. It did not disappoint. Michelangelo as the (very grim) sole-survivor, seeking vengeance against the grandson of Shredder. What's not to love? The art kicks ass.
Thomas Seitz
I think for me, Daredevil is trying to figure out just what it all means. That plus I liked the interaction he had with Spidey.
Time travel in the future is kind of a thing. I do like we get to see more of Blanque. He's kind of interesting.
I agree with the fact we're not getting a lot of stuff from Werewolf by Night that I'd like. But I'm hopeful. I generally give a new story like...4-5 maybe 6 issues. Fortunately this is a limited run so...
Maestro to me is less "What if" more like "Filling in the backstory we never got."
Honestly I LIKE Val, but I do agree they're turning her into a version of the villainess that becomes Doctor Doom. While the villains in this piece do seem stronger than before, I am interested in seeing what's going on with them. I'm sure Franklin will get his powers back. Will he join Krakoa? I dunno.
Regarding how Bruce lost his money, basically this: The Joker tricked Bruce (as Batman) into giving him access to his sluice accounts (along with control over Wayne Industries) and started Joker War that way. (Basically paying people to be bad.) I will agree that Joker War was pretty idiotic...but it's a thing. That's just what it is. I don't think Mirror is an old villain dressed up as a new guy. I think it's just a new guy.
I think, for me, Savage Avengers will improve even when they send Conan back, if only because they're starting to become more involved in mystic/magic stuff. But I could be wrong. Regardless, I'm sure Gath will be dealt with soon enough. At least before King in Black is over. I think.
This is the second to last issue of the Conan arc dealing with the Crucible and of course this city.
Tyr was always a giant POS. This just proves it more. I'm glad I got more insight into the main story out of it.
Honestly I'm glad we get a very competent Leader as a sort of Arch villain with the One Below All lurking in the background.
I wouldn't mind both Genesis (Or should I say Annihilation?) teaming up with the other mutants to give Saturnyne the business, but I doubt that's in the cards. Mostly because it's clear the leaders of Amenth/Arakko aren't interested in anything other than conquest and death. I would add, while not surprised, it's still unclear if Annihilation itself is in charge or if Genesis some how overcame it and is using it. We'll see. I am intersted in the stakes and of course some of the newest Swordbearers that I don't know much about (IE Bei the Blood Moon, Redroot, and possible Pogg Ur-Pogg.)

Even though Age of Khonshu is ended, I decided to keep going with Avengers. At least for a little while. I can see they aren't going to let this Mephisto thing go yet. And now there's the Phoenix. Not sure I like the idea of Howard Stark having made a deal with Mephisto....
The new Thor storyline looks to be interesting. I like this direction they're going in with Donald Blake. Not a big fan of Loki as god of stories, but maybe he's lying about all that...
Wolverine: Black, White & Blood was pretty cool. I love the art. Wendigo looked great.
X of Swords: the history of the mutants of Arakko was interesting. Not a big fan of Apocalypses wife being so much more badass than he is, but it does present an interesting new dimension to the character. The dinner party was kind of stupid. I wonder what War put in Logan's food. Not that it seems to matter, since he just went ginsu on the host. Sadly, I doubt she'll stay dead. Gotta say though, I love the new look for Roma. And I'm liking that dude Gorgon more and more. Not familiar with him, however.
Thomas Seitz
While I too am not a fan of the idea Howard Stark sold his soul to Mephisto, I did enjoy this issue for what it did give us; Kid Thanos and Doom the Living Planet. We'll see how much of the Phoenix saga plays out.
Loki isn't lying about him being the god of stories now. It's been a thing after his 'return" from being Kid Loki. Not sure I like this direction for Blake, since I thought he was still in a kind of dreamless sleep thanks to the Mares.
I'm honestly okay with Genesis being slightly stronger than Apocalypse was BEFORE. She might not recognize how much he's changed since that time. But yes, getting a deep read into the history of Arakko and Amenth was helpful. Also, no I seriously doubt Saturnyne is dead. She'd have to take a bigger hit than that, even from Wolverine. As for Gorgon, he's been more of a Wolverine in the beginning, but now is kind of his own thing. He's pretty much a bad ass since he's got two of the best swords that weren't made by dwarves, dead weapon smiths, or Wakanda.

Wow, and I thought the first part of this new Detective Comics story sucked balls. Looks like it's time to drop that title.
The ending for Hawkman was kind of lame. And, although I like short story arcs, this one did feel kind of rushed. One less DC title in my folder, but that was one that had been good for awhile.
Savage Avengers was fun. I liked the Juggernaut bomb. Fun times. Still, someone should tell the writer that...
X of Swords got really f~@$ing weird and disappointing. Not at all what I was expecting. They're starting down the path of what I hate most about characters like Saturnyne. She's uber powerful and bending all the rules to suit her own plan, which makes the entire story pointless. Either that, or she's just being a spiteful b#+#% because Wolverine was planning to kabob her, and now the X-folk will have to fight her AND the other a+$$~%~s.
Thomas Seitz
I think Detective is just trying to sort itself out while Joker war went on...
I'm not sure Hawkman is over...as I thought there was one more issue left.
Savage was indeed fun but you're seriously not paying attention if you don't think the KKK doesn't have SOME inroads left in America. Especially since some morphed into Proud Boys.
I agree with the X of Swords things. Mostly because I don't believe that the forces of Arrako could in fact take over the world. Destroy Krakoa? Sure. But the entire Avengers lineup?? No freaking way. Saturyne is lying or at least the writer is over-exaggerating the fact that while Akkrao/Amenth has lots of demons...I don't see it being that much of an issue for the Avengers who just fought an entire race of PLANT people.
As for Shogo, it's a thing that happened in the beginning of Excalibur's run.

I've been paying attention to those a@!$$%%s since I was a kid and they still had a presence in the s!$$hole state I grew up in. Even then, however, they were mostly considered a joke. And I don't consider throwing temper tantrums and getting into fights with a bunch of equally loser (but far more dangerous) marxists is really much of a threat. Call me when they start controlling entire states or political parties again.

I'll agree that the KKK as such isn't a big factor these days, but their spiritual successors have a lot of support and ties to one party. I don't think they control a party - more that they're the street fighting wing of that party. More brownshirts than old school KKK.
Far more connection than Marxists do with any power at all.

'Who brings guns to a space station that can break the windows?!"
Hulk has gotten it's own memes..
This will be my final post on /co/.
How can anyone think that this is scary for real ? How can anyone take seriously a horror book with the Hulk as a supposed to be frightening monster ? How can anyone see the Hulk as frightening for real in this book ?
"Ouh, the Hulk is smiling, so unsettling, this is so scary guys..." why are you lying to yourself like that ?
You guys are just forcing onto yourself the new fade there will be in this hivemind of a board, with the blandest, tamest, most classicly safe comic book there can be, while your selective outrage is s$$*ting on Bendis' Superman for things that would be praised if they were written by someone else, but NOOOOOOOOOOOO you have to s$$$ on it even if it's good because the hivemind dictates you to do so !!!
No wonder you can't get laid, but guess what ? I got a girlfriend now. For the first time of my life after 24 years I finally got a girlfriend, and all that nerd fuss has become so irritating since.
I'm just leaving for good now, I had plenty of fun with that board but I'm done. I wish you to get girlfriends to, maybe it will open your eyes about the hivemind that is destructing your self, but sadly, the hivemind is probably keeping you away from being able to seduce anyone, so you're most likely trapped in a vicious circle, and sadly, there is no Savage Dragon to save you from it. I just hope that this message will maybe help you to think by yourself a bit more and to get a girlfriend to.
Enjoy your book.

Sooo...
Fantastic Four may be getting to the point of being dropped. They just threw away decades of cannon story to have Franklin suddenly not be a mutant. That's f!#%ing stupid. Granted, they did have plenty of uber-powerful mutants already, so one less might be a good thing. Still, Franklin is now basically a useless and pointless character. Or he soon will be. After all, there's only so much angst over being powerless story arc to go around.
And his father can now apparently join him in being useless, since the daughter now seems to be smarter than him (and everyone else). And, of course she invented a science doorway that not only duplicates the Nexus of All Realities, but is better.
Skye is another one who's basically useless, except to serve as making the Human Torch solely the focus of relationship humor.
At this point, I think I'd prefer to see everyone but Ben, Alicia, and their kids die. Then the four of them can be the new, better FF, with Alicia being the new Puppet Master.

X of Swords....
Chapter 17 was disappointing, but I did note some things. Whoever's crafting the overarching story really doesn't like Wolverine. Storm is an utter badass, with or without her powers. That dude in the plaid suit deserves to be eviscerated with a butter knife. The same goes for the spoiled brat Saturnyne, who's true super power seems to be f$#+ing with people who don't giver her what she wants. Unless, as I suspected last week, she's just doing this to play the bad guys.
Part 18 - basically the only point of this and the previous issue of Hellions was to set up some future storyline with douchenozzle Sinister, and to introduce yet another uber powerful mutant and his team who of course kicks the s%%$ out of the X-folk. Two completely wasted issues. Though, I gotta say, I'm liking Scalphunter more and more.
Part 19 - Except for that bit with douchenozzle Sinister and the Quiet Council at the beginning, this issue was what I expected more of the tournament to be like. I was happy to see arrogant young cable kick his ass handed to him. That whole spirit death thing was a nice touch. And the fight between Gorgon and the White Sword was pretty cool. I liked the way they handled it. And I'm glad they seem to be ready for the tournament to be over, since up until now it had been disappointing. The art was okay, except that Apocalypse looked ridiculous for some reason.

A-zombie,
(ignoring what is clearly a derisive and very poor analysis of who any of us are...)
I'm not convinced this will stick. Mostly because it's comics and I think someone down the line will either fix it...or do something else. Also Dan Slott is kind of dick about things....so there's that. But I do agree it's a little annoying to have that happen. As for Valeria being smarter than Reed, it's never really bothered me since I feel it's a setup for her to replace Reed when they reboot the FF with her, Franklin and probably now Ben's kids.
I can't comment much on Sky since I feel she's a side character...which is kind of sad but there you go.
I actually doubt Ben will beat up the Hulk this time. But considering the twists that have occurred (like you know, Leonard in a 'new' body) there's always a possibility!
I basically stand with you all of the X of Sword issues, mostly because other than Gorgon helping and going all Seven Samurai...there was very little else to cheer for because it feels so damn lop sided. And yes, Saturnyne is pretty much dicking Krakoa over. But I'll be damned if I know EXACTLY why. (Also the dude in the plaid suit is Mad Jim Jaspers.)
Oh and yes, Storm is great, even without her powers. That and her sword is like probably one of the best ones in the tournament.

This Daredevil Goes to Jail story is starting to get long in the tooth. I hope they finish it up soon.
The two-parter in Batman Beyond was fun. I liked seeing old Booster. And having the whole thing be just a way to ensure everything remained intact timewise was cool. I'd never heard of that villain before, however.
The conclusion to the most recent Conan story was cool. I liked the Challi-Mai religion - a clever take on an existing goddess from myth. The only thing that bums me out is I haven't seen an issue of Savage Sword in awhile, so I guess they stopped it.
Last God continues to be both fun and creative. By far, it's one of the best books DC has put out in years. I like this world they've built up. Seems the story might finally be coming to a head, as well. Thank the gods for that. Since this is Book 1 of the Fellspyre Chronicles, I look forward to seeing where they take it from here. Lord knows there won't be any other DC titles in my box (except the aforementioned future Bat book).
Maestro - I love the way Hulk took out Hercules.

X of Swords...
Part 20 - Seems Genesis wasn't as fit as she thought she was. I liked seeing Apocalypse gut her. She was a bit too arrogant for my tastes. And Cyclops had a plan, of course. When does he not have a plan.
Part 21 - I figured that part of Saturnyne's game was getting Brian to be her one and only, no matter who or what got destroyed in the process. That's one of the reasons I despise the character. I'm really enjoying this thing between Bei and Cypher. It's both fun and interesting.
Part 22 - Huzzah for the return of the Captain Britain Corp. And then it was just a big fight. Lots of Cthulhu style monsters from Amenth (they really should explore more of that place), a s+@# ton of X-Men, the S.W.O.R.D. facility being brought through (and I was wondering what they were going to do with those borg wannabes from the station). Then Apocalpyse shows how badass he his by not only ripping that mask off his wife's face, but then refusing to give in to its possessive powers.
And, in the aftermath, it looks like not only will Krakoa get bigger (if Arakko rejoins with it), but they'll also have a s~## ton more mutants. That could be fun. It'll be interesting to see where they go from here.
And at least Saturnyne didn't get the one thing she wanted.
Thomas Seitz
I think the Daredevil in Jail will be interesting if only because it might give DD some leads on how to REALLY get under the Stromwyns skin.
I admit, I was little shocked by the fact this was a setup done by both Booster AND Bruce...but I was okay with the turn out. That and Blanque is no joke. (I forget which issue of Superman he was in...but he's like one of the strongest psychics in the DC verse.)
I can confirm, Savage Sword ended back in May I think. I know it was over the summer or just before it. But yes, I'm glad to see this arc end and Conan got a nice shiny sword.
Last God is the kind of RPG setting I'd like to see put online and in podcast. It has some interesting takes that's for sure.
I was laughing when Herc pulled an Avengers the Movie take on Hulk, but DAMN Hulk, that was a slick move on your part.
X of Swords,
Three things really stood out; 1) the return of Captain Britain Corps and the fact they're all now versions of Betsy. 2) I'm still miffed that Saturnyne's vision of a possible future when Wolverine murdered her didn't take into consideration the fact there's WAY more in 616 than just "the Avengers' 3) The fact Apocalypse pretty much pwned the Annihilation helm and proved why he's a bad ass from start (the fight) to finish (returning Arakko)
Mostly now we have a true X-men team, even if the Quiet Council is now fractured.

I was bagging and boarding today, and it got me thinking.....
In the very near future, DC is going to be putting out their latest gimmick books in an effort to boost sales and try to please some folks (who, in my own opinion, can't be pleased). And it demonstrates, to a great degree, why I have a great deal of contempt for the powers that be at both big companies (and probably the smaller ones, if I collected their stuff).
It's because, ultimately, they're cowards.
Now, knowing my own posting history and (often loudly) professed beliefs, some people might think I call them cowards because of some stupid PC s$@#. That, however, (and some people likely are aware of this) would be incorrect.
A good example of why I think they're cowards is a story from many years ago. I was in my local comic book store, and the owner was telling me he secured Mark Waid to come visit for a signing. This was shortly after Kingdom Come, so he was really out their at the time. Another customer, an older fellow started b$%@&ing about Waid's run on Flash, and the character he termed "Wally Worst". This person was still very upset that Wally had not only replaced Barry, but had done so successfully. And right then and there, I knew they would one day bring Barry back.
And they did. They brought Hal back as well. And Bruce Wayne. And Clark Kent. And Oliver Queen. And so on....
And that's the point. How many times have they killed someone off, or had them retire for whatever reason, only to inevitably bring them back? Hell, they even incorporated it into a joke in the X-Men, that Heaven had a revolving door for some of them (or something to that effect). The powers that be cannot conceive of a world where they replace a super hero for good, and the world won't end.
And they have way too many human Green Lanterns.
thejeff
Looks back to 1961 and "Flash of Two Worlds", where DC first brought back the old Flash who they'd replaced a few years earlier.
Nah, old favorites never go away and I'm just fine with that. I like some of those old characters. I'm glad I got to read new stories about them and that they hadn't retired or been killed and permanently replaced before I started reading comics.
I like some of the new characters too. Even some of the replacements, who've gone on to do their own thing. Or just while they were in the spotlight.
The best superheroes are iconic and can't really be replaced, because their iconic nature is the point. You can put someone else in the role for a bit, but that's always more to contrast with the real character than anything else. That's more for the Clarks and the Bruces, than for the Barrys, I admit.

Daredevil in jail looks to be both interesting and potentially boring. Elektra as Daredevil looked very nice. It might be cool to see them run with that for awhile, which means they probably won't. However, if most of what we see of Matt is he and Elektra having heart-to-hearts in prison each night, that could get real old, real quick.
This latest issue of Savage Avengers was straightforward and fun. Just Wolverine and company kicking the s~~@ out of evil dudes. The wood chipper was a nice touch. I guess next issue we get to go back to the fight with the dragon who turns into a human to fight for....reasons.
Avengers was weird. Are we re-writing the history of mutants again? I guess the red-headed chick is the ancestor of everyone's favorite original X-Chick? She was raised by wolves with what looked to be grey fur, so maybe that's where the name will come from.
Picked up the first issue of SWORD, just because I thought it might be interesting. X-Men in space has often provided some cool stories. I still don't like this development of Wanda and Pietro being not mutants. It's about as stupid as making Franklin not a mutant. I liked the idea behind the teleporters all working together. Not sure what they retrieved, or where that trippy place they got it from was, but the whole sequence was kind of fun. This combining powers in different ways has a lot of interesting potential for future stories. Loved seeing that old buddy-buddy between Peeper and Magneto. And they way Cortez was trying to suck up, but got rebuffed, was fun. That dude always was a douchnugget.
