Second, playing in the PFS special. The dim caveman shaman I've been running all weekend really got a chance to shine. Mark ("the 'ei' is like in eidolon") Seifter and Linda from PFS were both super nice and fun. But I have to give special thanks to our GM (Stephen, I think) for handling a difficult and stressful event with aplomb.
Thanks so much! I had an absolute blast running that special. I did totally blow a charging rule once, but you know what, you learn. And I absolutely love your throw anything shaman. I'm considering building something like it!
I loved getting to play Tyranny of Winds with two of the same players through all three parts - I didn't expect to find somebody with the same schedule I had. A particular shout out to Stephen Wight Part 2, who made the outright awful experience of the other two bearable by putting on a great game.
Heh, well, I'm glad you had a good experience! The outer two are a bear to run, to be sure. I had a ton of fun at that table. The social bits were hilarious, even if you guys blew the combats out of the water!

So wow, I kinda wish I'd posted on a daily basis, as now I'm going to have to remember what all happened throughout a sleep-deprived yet extremely entertaining Paizo Con.
First, this was my first Paizo Con where my primary focus was not PFS. This is not an indictment of PFS, but rather just a change of pace for me. I love PFS: the players, the gms, the scenarios, etc. But sometimes completely and total obsession is not healthy and that's what I'm finding out.
Now this was my wife's first Paizo Con, and she agreed to take the Empire Builder (train) from St. Paul, MN to Seattle, WA. A trip just over 38 hours. We'd heard all kinds of stories about trains being late. Not just late, but hours late, due to oil and freight trains, which have priority on the railways. But we arrived about 30 minutes early. We joined Hmm, BretI, GM Eazy Earl and James Krolak for the trip.
Originally we'd planned on playing Thurston Hillman's "Ire of the Storm" on the way out, and I think "Tears at Bitter Manor" on the way back. But since none of us were planning to play these specific characters and we were playing campaign mode, we ratcheted back the power gaming a bit and only finished part 1 if "Ire of the Storm" on the way out. MysticImp (my wife Dianna or Di) played the new Rougarou as a Cleric of Feronia. We had a couple catfolk at the table with Hmm as a bard and BretI as an Investigator. James Krolak played a Tiefling Paladin with a swashbuckler-esque archetype. Finally, I played a Gillmen Samurai/Kineticist (Kinetic Knight). We had so much diplomacy that we had the village of Pridon's Hearth eating out of our hands.
We finally arrive around 11am at the Doubletree, and we quickly ate some lunch, greeted old friends, and met a few new ones. I saw Adam Daigle walking through the lobby and introduced him to my wife and Hmm. Additionally we ran into Woran and had some fun line talk as we waited to check into the hotel.
I quickly gathered Majuba (Jubragl--Bloatmage), GM Eazy Earl (Shackles--Barbarian), Sarvei Taeno (Parantus--Shaman), Eliandra Giltessan (Roslyn--Core Rogue), and a couple whom I don't remember their names (Kate and John maybe?) with a Barbarian and Magus for All for Immortality, Part 1: First Taste of Eternity. We played in Evergreen 2. We had a ton of fun, playing until about 7:30, and I thoroughly enjoyed GMing for this group. I was very excited that I'd get at least 4 of these back for part 2 and 3 on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
I then hung out chatting with various folks for the rest of Thursday evening as my wife slept from about 5:30pm until the next morning. Apparently sleep, trains and her do not mix. I got a chance to chat with John Compton for a few minutes, where I got to share my recent freelance exploits. If you haven't seen it, Jaye Sonia with Stormbunny Studios, Ben McFarland, and Brian Suskind ran a callback to Wolfgang Bauer's Open Design projects: calling it Design Camp. We went through all the steps of designing a callback to the old Deities and Demigods book from 1st edition DnD by designing 3 pantheons. I personally wrote two pieces in the book, including the adventure. But I was famished, so I was going to head to eat when I ran into Pirate Rob who joined me at the Smokehouse. I had a fantastic curry salmon dish and I think Pirate Rob had some pulled pork. Good conversation, good dinner, and so far a fantastic start to my Paizo Con.
Friday started with a lottery event (my first 4 ever): Golarionender with John Compton. Glen Irving, the Auckland, New Zealand Venture-Captain, and two others (including a very excited and competent 16-year old) joined me. If you haven't tried Mythender (and thus Golarionender), and you feel nostalgic for those 16 year old days when you and your buddies just got together with Deities and Demigods or Legends and Lore, broke open the book to randomly pick which god you would kill, then this game is for you.
Additionally, this game is just gonzo. Sure, there are mechanics, rules and dice. But largely the point is to describe, in as ridiculously crazy detail as you can, just how epic your actions are. Indeed, part of the mechanics require you to be very large and crazy in your descriptions so that you can get the epic and titanic actions. After all, we are killing a god. Lets make this really huge!
That seemed to be the theme as each of us had companion weapons (read the rules, you'll understand) that we eventually had grow to the size of Golarion (of course after Compton had Rovagug start eating Taldor and Qadira and throwing the Tarrasque at us using a low orbit trajectory so that it landed behind us.) Eventually we had a Golarion sized Pseudo Dragon and Zombie Parents (what, my mythender was 10 and needed his dead parents' comfort as he killed gods!)
The highlight to the day was actually getting Compton to say, "Those are words I never thought I'd hear today," when I said, "Ok, so what happens now that my Zombie Parents are hugging Rovagug making him poop?"
And the Day of Gods just continued as I ran All for Immortality, Part 2: All the Gods Beyond. Same core 4 as Thursday afternoon, but this time missing Kate and John (hope those are the correct names) but gaining Vincent from New Jersey (sorry, I missed your last name). More Shenanigans, fun with pigs and owls, and somehow the least likely end up being the most competent! These Seekers are really turning out to be resourceful and interesting. Pulling out all the stops and rarely used spells save the day.
Somewhere during the day, I found time to eat, but the memory of my meals is tending to escape me at the moment. Tells you really where my focus was, if eating is the lowest on my memory scale. I'm also sure I chatted with some really cool people during dinner between AfI2 and my evening entertainment. And I'm sure I'll remember who at least 1 hour after I've posted this. This is why I wish I'd taken the time to post these things daily instead of waiting until 3 days after.
In any case, I finished off Friday with Champion's Chalice, Part 1: Blazing Dangerous Trails. There was a bit of a mix-up during mustering and somehow we ended up being sat at a table of 7 with all real tickets. Not sure how that happened, but David Montgomery, Venture-Captain of Massachusetts Central & West, handled it like a pro. I got to play with Jack Brown, Venture-Captain of Minnesota-Minneapolis (one of Jon Dehning (leg-o-lamb) and my successors) and a pair (a fellow who was blind and his sister) whom I'd played with the previous year at Paizo Con 9 (2016) for Faithless & Forgotten, Part 3. Everyone was fun and I enjoyed this scenario. It didn't really fit my Cardinal of Desna, Isgen Vescancii, but I made the best of it!
Interestingly enough, I really enjoy panels. But the way my Paizo Con played out this year, is that I really only attended the morning panels (thus wainscoting). I've decided to really give my anemic freelance career a booster shot and attended several panels geared toward that.
I started with the Wayfinder panel, and got lots of good information on how to submit for Wayfinder. I'll have to keep my eye open for opportunities for the open call for their only 2018 Issue (Wayfinder #18), which will publish at Paizo Con 11 (2018). Then I veered a bit from freelance panels and enjoyed a great panel on the new Pathfinder: Kingmaker CRPG. I'm really looking forward to this one folks! I mean, Seriously looking forward to it. I mean, really, really, really excited! Only downside to the game, is it won't be ready until summer of 2018. Its going to be a game, so don't worry if you see a Kickstarter. The Kickstarter is only to fund additional content.
Then I attended a panel on reskinning Pathfinder (which seems very appropriate for a year in which we get Starfinder--although technically not a reskin) run by Crystal Frasier, Logan Bonner, and Mark Moreland. It was a fun time listening to them jam on various reskins they've done for their home campaigns. Largely Mark Moreland discussing reskinning Pathfinder for his Marvel superhero campaign. They did take some Q&A and spent a few minutes discussing how they'd make a spy vs. spy campaign, which a good friend of mine is looking to start up soon.
So I finished off All for Immortality, Part 3: Serpent's Fall, about 6:30, just in time for my players to get to the Banquet (and for Majuba to hand out his delicious goblin brains. .) In any case, the Core 4 plus Vincent played through this one, and really enjoyed my french accent (not sure if that's true, but they enjoyed that encounter anyways.)
Initially, I was a bit disappointed in the reveals, not because they weren't great, but because they only really had one thing they revealed that had not already been announced. Where in previous years, they've previewed three or four new things that had not previously been announced. But I realized they really wanted to focus on Starfinder and give this new, fantastic looking game its due. And that was the correct choice.
Starfinder looks amazing! So does the Alien Archives. Which was funny, as my wife and I were sitting with Crystal Frazier and Lisa Guillet. Two really enjoyable and fun ladies. But Crystal was mortified that what was supposed to be a parasite alien turned into feral, gun-toting care bears (her words.) They were so CUTE! though.
I'm also excited for the new AP Crown of Taldor.
On Sunday morning, I attended the Starfinder Q&A panel, which was more designed for discussing what Starfinder was from a Lore and flavor perspective rather than how it mechanically differed from Pathfinder (there was a panel Monday morning for that). This was a very informative panel. My favorite bit was when they discussed is complexity and approachability for new people who've never roleplayed before. The explanation was if you created a complexity scale, where Beginner's Box was 1 and Pathfinder was 10, they were shooting for a 6. I only really played in some Delve goodness, so I'm not super sure where the mechanical differences make it more simple, but I was really glad to hear this. Additionally, they did their best to make the ruleset readable with the English language. Sure Pathfinder is written in English but its so full of gaming jargon and reappropriation of words and concepts, that you have to have knowledge of the game system to understand simple sentence constructs in some cases. It sounds like they tried to do away with that. This should make the RAW vs. RAI arguments much less intense.
The next panel was the Pathfinder & Starfinder compatibility panel. Wow are Liz Courts and Ashley Kaprielian stars. They had two huge packets created to hand-hold a new prospective publisher or freelancer through all the pitfalls of dealing with OGL, Compatibility License and Logo, and lots of suggestions of speaking to a lawyer or accountant if you are unsure if something is legal or not.
Then I went to lunch with Hmm and BretI to the Thai Mango place with a local (James or Jim?) airline pilot and fellow gamer. Delicious food and fun conversation, but I was so engrossed that I completely missed the start of my second lottery event. A Legendary Planet game. So instead I hung out with more cool people, including Majuba, Jonathan Choy and Angie Powers. I then went to the Pathfinder and Starfinder Society Q&A. I'm very excited for some of the changes to PFS, and really, really excited for SFS.
Finally, my wife and I joined Tony Lindman, his wife Dorothy Lindman (Co-Venture-Lieutenants of the Seattle, Washington area (when did that happen? I thought you two were Venture-Captains?)), another couple who were also local Seattle-ites and a local GM for #8-99: Solstice Scar. Andrew Hoskins created a really enjoyable and compelling special, with some unique monsters. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this table. We were pretty successful, never really feeling inadequate for the tier (10-11) despite being a bit underpowered, level-wise, for it, but it was still a good challenge. The GM was both prepared and entertaining. Dianna, my wife, really, really enjoyed Dorothy's teamwork feat cavalier build.
On Monday, I got to play Champion's Chalice, Part 2: Agents of the Eye. Another fun scenario. I did not dislike any of my three PFS experiences this weekend.
We hung around the lobby all afternoon chatting with interesting and fun people. I met Steven Coling, Venture-Captain, Canberra, Australia. We had fun discussing the differences between Australian and American cuisine, crazy Australian animals, and Steve Irwin. Steven is a very interesting fellow to chat with and I learned a lot about Australia. Now I want to go there! Glen Irving joined us for part of the conversation and I learned they were going to be running the special in Hobbiton in New Zealand. Wow! Now I want to go. But my wife and I are planning an England trip during that same weekend. So we will have to miss that one.
I also got a chance to chat with Russ Brown (RustyIronPants) and he is always a pleasure to spend time with. Then I closed the night down listening to a Jon Dehning (leg-o-lamb), who had been awake for 40+ hours, deliriously tell hilarious stories with Woran and Therry.
And so it has come to pass, we needed to return to the great frosty north (which really was just east, but whatever). So we sat around the lobby all day Tuesday and started the 2nd part of "Ire of the Storm". During the train trip, we mostly finished the module, but still have like 3 encounters or so before we will be completely done. And here we thought we would get 2 modules done on this trip. Right!
Now I'm back in Minnesota, with 6 hours of glorious sleep under my belt, and furry kitties cuddling all day, and I'm raring to get my weekend on!

Nils, no one asked. It was announced pretty close to the end of the seminar time, and none of the attendees thought quickly enough about the implications. I presume there will be paragraph text in the Guide explaining the accounting and tracking procedures beyond a quick panel announcement. You know, sometimes I think we don't play "Math-finder" as much as we play "Accountant: The RPG."How does this work with all the boons that are crossed off after use or that have boxes to check?Tonya revealed that the Season 9 guide will remove the requirement that one have paper copies of chronicle sheets as long as you have scans that you can show should you be audited. That’s a huge boon to someone like me since I occasionally play with a local group somewhere in the world on a layover.It's going to be a huge boon to all travelers, actually. I was so excited when Tonya announced that. I'm sorry that we'll miss you tonight, Jim. You were a delight to meet.
Actually, everyone's been a delight all the way through. If you at home are wondering, "Should I go to PaizoCon?" The answer is "Yes!"

Painlord you asked for it lol. Here is all that I have gathered from my time at PaizoCon 2017. It took me a bit to compile but here it is.
To Gary Pepper: I hope I haven't seen the last of you. I know you're all alone up in Lake County, but I believe in you.
You haven't seen the last of me!!! You are right, I may be alone but that doesn't mean I can't rock it. I will put little ole lake county on the map!!!
I guess this would be a good place to start my wrap up of how PaizoCon 2017 went for me.
I need to preface this with an apology. To all whom I played with I am horrible at names and even worse at taking notes. I concentrate more on the explore and cooperate parts of the pathfinder credo. If you remember playing along side the drunken half orc cleric of Torag who was having an identity crisis that would probably have been me. Please let me know your name.
It all started on Thursday when my flight arrived I got checked in at the hotel and began calling out a Waagh. I met up with my fellow VOs in the bar (a great starting place for any adventure).

This was my first, of many to come, PaizoCons that I have attended. It was astonishing the comradery and social community just present during the event. It felt as if I was in my local town causing shenanigans with my friends and fellow Pathfinders.
This is an experience I will remember.

Is there blood in that dent?Just put away my last stuff. Noticed there is a Leg'o Lamb shaped dent in my printout of House of Harmonius wisdom.And what a beautiful dent it is.

After a particular table at Phoenix ComiCon this year, I'm probably going to be incorporating the following thoughts:
1. Players who bring metal dice must bring certification that they are trained in the handling of said dice, and must sign a waiver that they will not hold the GM or venue responsible if they decide to face-plant on a 'caltrop'. Failure to do so will result in inability to use the metal dice and 'safety dice' will be provided, free of charge for the duration of the scenario.
2. No more than six players.
3. The player who brings the GM coffee without being asked gets a postive circumstance modifier to an unknown roll at some point during the scenario.
4. If a player uses a check-off boon that does something awesome during a Special, and time gets called very shortly after that, whatever the boon would apply to will get a quick but awesome exposition that brings the party to the next scene.

Did any of you guys happen to get a picture of the guy in the flumph hat? My phone had a mishap and all my PaizoCon pictures got wiped, I'd like to have that one, if at all possible.
Am I correct in assuming you want one of yourself, and not one of Adam, the paizo employee wearing it?

A bit late, but my report is up too.
I've got to say, I'm not sure I'd have stuck with the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game for this long if it wasn't for PFSACG. My friends loved playing the game when we were around and could get everyone together, but their commitment level was relatively low (and I couldn't really blame them; it takes quite a bit of commitment to finish an Adventure Path!). I actually managed to find a stable group to finish 2 Seasons with, and soon to be a third, which was very cool.

Therry [looking down at tablet after returning from bathroom break]: "What have you DONE to me?"
Andrew Hoskins [matter-of-fact]: "I optimised your character. Don't worry, it's better this way. No, you don't have to thank me."
Therry: "I'm... an ARISTOCRAT?!?"
AH: "And an elf. Half-orcs are so passé. And look at all the great social skills I gave you."
Random Smart Ass: "Man, you left the table. What did you think would happen?"
Me: [falls out of chair, laughing helplessly]
I just realized that I captured this moment with my iPad!
You can actually see Andrew Hoskins telling Therry that his character was an aristocratic elf while Zach Davis is laughing. My laughter is alas off screen since I took the photo.
