Brawler Build

Advice

For a PbP I will most likely be participating in, I am building an orc Brawler that is built around the idea of getting people unconscious and then dragging them back to his base. My dilemma is this: do I go vanilla brawler or do I go with the Strangler archetype?

The advantage to being a strangler is that when I use my sleeper hold, it is guaranteed to knock the victim out. As a brawler, I don't get a guaranteed knockout. However I get super mega punches. So my question is: do I knock them out with a super grapple or with a bunch of heavy punches?

Also, what feats, abilities, etc. should I look into?

Id stick with the vanilla brawler. You'll be able to spec into grappling using martial flexibility when you want to and grappling becomes less effective when things start being bigger, stronger, and/or having more than 2 legs.

With the vanilla brawler you can choose to do nonlethal with your normal punches to knock people out and you get a lot more flexibility than just the strangler.

My personal go-to's are the following

Power Attack
Combat Expertise/Dirty Fighting
Dodge and Mobility
Weapon Focus
Combat Reflexes

6 feats spent, and you don't have to go in on them all the way. Those feats branch off into 90% of the martial feat trees in the entire game. For maximum combat versatility I like high Str and Dex builds, and don't forget that Brawlers can use a shield to bump up their AC, unlike Monks. Mithral Armor too, eventually, Kikko for the best Dex use, Breastplate for everything else.

Go Vanilla and with the right feat selection like mentioned about you can on the fly pick up Chokehold feat and choke the life out of people. Then you still get knock out punches.

The strangler isn't guaranteed a knockout - it works as knockout blow except for requiring a grapple CMB check & not needing to do damage. Nothing says this bypasses the save.

Re those feats, getting them all isn't necessary, and researching much of what you can do might be easier with a more focused starting point. Sure, get some of them but I don't recommend getting them all. Also Combat Reflexes is another relevant feat to build off.

What sort of starting level?

Scarab Sages

If you're going to be doing nonlethal damage anyway, I'd suggest taking a look at the Enforcer feat. My Half-Orc Brawler enjoys it very much.

Level 8 starting, almost done with build. thanks for the advice.
