PFS Immortality

Advice

Scarab Sages

As an idea for PC motivation, I like the idea of someone joining the pathfinders in the hope of stopping himself from aging. Specifically this is a martial who would be afraid of losing his strength and vitality due to aging. He wouldn't be seeking invincibility, just not aging.

What ways could I achieve this? I have no issue with "wasting" my magic item allowance on this.

The Exchange

Monk Lv 17 ability Timeless body. You stop taking penalties for aging but still die when your time is up.

Heavens oracle capstone:

Upon achieving 20th level, your rapport with the heavens grants you perfect harmony with the universe. You receive a bonus on all saving throws equal to your Charisma modifier. You automatically stabilize if you are below 0 hit points, are immune to fear effects, and automatically confirm all critical hits. Should you die, you are reborn 3 days later in the form of a star child, who matures over the course of 7 days (treat as the reincarnate spell).

If you want an immortal martial, consider Fighter 5/Living Monolith 10.

A mantle of immortality doesn't actually give immortality, but it does remove aging penalties. 50 000 gp.

Of course the reincarnate spell or cyclic reincarnation (or a similar effect cast on you) makes you a young adult again. No idea how hard these are to access in PFS.

Nacreous Grey Sphere prevents aging, does not occupy a slot, can be implanted, and only costs 10,000 gp.

Thank you all. Ioun stone it is. Within PFS level and wealth limits.

But most importantly of all, it takes away the barbarian's greatest fear in life. So now he can literally die of old age while swinging his axe around like a young man.

He's an adventurer... Pharasma knows he is bound for her halls eventually. She just needs to wait for him to make a mistake. She is a patient girl.

Why would Pharasma care if you use magic to bring yourself back to life? If this were the case, Pharasma wouldn't have the Resurrection Subdomain for her Clerics. That gives Raise dead, Resurrrection, and True Resurrection as Domain spells.

The only thing Pharasma has a major problem with is the use of undeath, because Undeath truly is avoiding her. Even when you use magic to bring yourself back from the dead, the spells don't work should you die from old age, so in her mind, she'll just sit back and wait. Undeath allows one to avoid ever being judged by her, which is why she does everything in her power to have her clerics destroy them.

And even in the case of Reincarnate, even she I think understand that most people will grow tired of being brought back over and over again. Let's be honest, dying a whole lot takes its toll on people. At a certain point, I'd say an adventurer that even has access to reincarnate (which involves knowing a decently high level Druid, Shaman, or Witch) would decide they prefer to stay dead. Pharasma is, for all we known, an infinitely old, undying deity that knows the fate of even the gods perhaps. She can wait for one soul to have their fun and finally decide it's time to rest.

The answer is you don't. It's the journey that's important... not the destination. Your character isn't likely to die of old age before you reach the retirement point of 12th level.

Sovereign Court

Yeah, Pharasma has no problem with returning from the dead or seeking immortality, so long as the method you choose to do so doesn't disrupt the stream of souls (IE, soul gems or undeath). Immortal or no, everyone will stand before her eventually, and those who have seen centuries more than their natural span are often in the best position to become powerful psychopomps.

I remember reading that somewhere.İt might be wiki but ı checked it an it wasnt there.I clearly remember reading that thing with phrasma hating reincarnation but cant find the source.....

The wiki article on souls, via The Great Beyond and Pyramid of the Sky Pharaoh (mostly Pyramid):

PathfinderWiki wrote:

The souls of atheists and agnostics pass through to a plane related to their principles, but dissident souls that refuse Pharasma's judgment and failed souls that never exhibited faith or passion in life never progress. Pharasma dispatches them to a dormant existence in the Graveyard of Souls or roam it in distress, wander the Astral Plane, or are chosen by Pharasma to return to the Material Plane as a reincarnated being. The souls that never leave the Graveyard eventually break down into dormant quintessence called soul debris, which comprises the spire atop which the Boneyard stands.

...

Given sufficient belief in an alternative path, a soul can forego the River of Souls for a different fate, such as reincarnation. Such diversions are ultimately temporary, however, and at some point the soul attempts to reach the Boneyard.
