APG Society Ramexes and Salim Advice

Hello,
we are currently deciding to start a new Adventure Path and i want to start a new Character.
Since i prefer playing classes i dont play in the regular Pathfinder Game i want to play Ramexes (Oracle) or Salim (Inquisitor).

I just wanted to have your feedback if you think one of the characters is good or bad since i have only few experiences with the Card game and know some Scenarios are really hard.

i played Harsk till now.

I played Salim in WotR, but without his class deck (but adding his sword to the starting deck).

My impression is that he is a very solid, all-round character that is easy to play and I had a blast playing him so far.

His power of getting a die on non-combat checks against a bane is awesome, since it means he almost never encounters a bane where he is absolutely helpless against a bad effect. Furthermore, just adding another die often trivializes these checks, so the potential risk of exploring is greatly diminished.

You can also carry a divine spell around without having to banish it after use, but given his abysal divine skill, you won't be able to recharge it (still, a guaranted Cure per scenario is a very nice thing most characters don't have access to).

Using the 'Death's Heretic' role, you get the proficiency of a fighter as well, so you can use weapons to your hearts content without having the fear of running out of cards, and you get to cycle your deck faster.

I never bothered with the 'Reluctant Priest' role, but it can be used to have surprising versatility as well as forcing upgrades for spells of your fellow magic users (let them give you their weak spells, banish them for some situational spells from the box, and let the magic user choose replacement spells of #AD-2 freely after the scenario).

Don't think you can go wrong with Salim, really.

Lone Shark Games

I don't think you can really go wrong with either of them. Ramexes will be more of a change, coming from Harsk, whether that's good or bad. Salim is a better generalist, able to pretty confidently take whatever cards come his way. Ramexes can explore more and has more reliable casting.

When playing Salim in society game. Where the summoned spell comes?
From the game box or From the character deck box?
Also is the spell random or can you chose it?
Is it level 2 (4) or up to level 2? (4)

1. The Mummy's Mask rulebook (p. 14) says summoned cards are retrieved from "the box", and since it's not a Reward it means the game box. ("The Box", p. 9 of the Guide 4.2.)

2. I would have assumed random, but it doesn't say so I guess you get to choose. I'll warn everyone in advance, though, that at our Guild nights if you intend to spend a half hour reading through all the Divine spells from 0-4 in the box you're getting a Guidance. ;)

3. "no greater than 2 ([] 4)" is the wording used.

Actually, if you're required to summon something from the box and it doesn't say choose, it's random.

Silver Crusade 4/5 ***

I have played Ramexes through a season and Salim through half a season. Both are very solid.

If I had to pick, I’d go with Salim, cuz I don’t feel like Ramexes scales as well as I would like. Plus, I <3 my 1d8 on non-combat checks vs banes. But if being able to fight without a weapon/spell is important to you, Ramexes is a solid puncher.

Ah, cool. It's there in the MM book (on page 15) but I missed it. :(

Ok. So it is very, very random... you can get one usage spell From 0-2 level Divine without any controll... hmmm... does anyone actually use that summon spell power?
If it would be draw spell card and It would stay in play... maybe...
if you could say, attack spell or heal spell, then most likely.

Any experience of this power? The only thing I can see this usefull in to get two card banished From the box at the same time... ;)

Since the context is Guild play: banishing more spells might not change anything at all depending on which option your group is using to set up the box.

Personally, I doubt I'd take the "banish to use a random spell" power. If I did, I imagine I'd be using it to try to exchange randomly acquired AD 0 spells for Cures. (This is more useful when you can't use Sunburst Market to get an extra Cure before starting the game.)

ObTopic: Neither of these characters do much for me, but of the options given I guess I'd lean Death's Heretic Salim. I've been playing casters for a while now and I want to get away from that.

Many thanks for the insight!
