Interest Check Only (40K RPG)

Recruitment

Dark Archive

I am presently running a DW PBP here in the boards.

Aside from DW, are people here interested in some other 40k game (Dark Heresy 1st Ed., Rogue Trader, Black Crusade or Only War)?

Scarab Sages

In my opinion RT and OW are some of the best RPGs around. While their mechanics sometimes need some tweaking, they both have a theme to them and the mechanics follow those themes very well. And they're both very different from other games, which, I suppose, is why they're sometimes misunderstood. (i.e. RT isn't about a DnD adventuring group running around dungeon delving at from level 1 on up. Not that that's bad, just that RT isn't that game.)

So, that being said, I'd play a game of RT or OW in a second.

Dark Archive

RT (pirate edition, i.e you guys are pirates)?

Scarab Sages

Oh, no. Not really. To be honest, I'm still looking forward to finally playing through the Warpstorm Trilogy. Which, for all the times I've played RT, I have yet to actually play it.

I have played and enjoyed all but Black crusade, in fact, I believe we've played Rogue trader together at some point I think eh Radavel?
The one I'm currently most interested in would be Only war, but Rogue trader is fun too.

It would be nice to have a try at OW, though considering I'm already playing one of your games, consider this a back up dot in case you need to fill a slot. I guess you'd want some new blood.

Rogue Trader and Only War are great fun. I would be into Dark Heresy but more of a mid to ascension level game.

Yes we did ;-)

Lemme pull out some inspirational material on OW.

Sczarni

Definitely interested. OW is fun, but if I believe that the military and combat based focus might slow things down a bit on the forums. RT, however would be pretty good, regardless of whether it's more sandboxy or a pre-written adventure, since it lends itself to a lot of colourful character interactions.

So, that's one person interested here, in whatever it is 40k you'd be running.

Scarab Sages

Rogue Trader, like Shadowrun, is well designed to be a forum or online game. Characters can get spread out and such a thing is *much* easier to handle online than in person. Specifically, the scope of the game is easier to handle.

In the event of rogue trader, i am partial to playing a space marine who has been sent to assist/protect members of the rogue trader house (Marines Errant, Novamarines, or Storm Wardens). I also know that requires a high end of experience and no small amount of scope consideration, so i won't be salty if that isn't allowed.

Tell me which appeals to you:

Black Sails (everyone has his own ship)
Killjoys (everyone is a bounty hunter)
The Expanse (everyone is out to get you)

Feel free to make suggestions.

Killjoys sounds cool.

Dark Archive

Gonna add:

The Usual Suspects (Everyone poses on a Lineup)
Gladiator (Hack and Slash in Space)
Person of Interest (Acolytes with AI Inquisitor)

Black Sails and Killjoys seem the most appealing.

Scarab Sages

How about:

Star Trek (Explore and Exploit...oh wait, is that not Star Trek?)

An all ork campaign

Black Sails, The Expanse, or Person of Interest

Your latest and recent interest check thread for a single chapter DW game was abandoned despite great interest. Do you have any intention of actually GM'n or we just shooting the s&##?

I like person of interest and killjoy.

Killjoys

Dark Archive

Killjoys seem to draw the most interest. Rules-wise I think DH best covers this genre. You guys agree with that?

Idk, I haven't read DH. I heard, though, that the initial characters are quite weak. Could that be only DH1? I think there's a DH2, or something?

DH 1 and 2 start you at almost the same level. DH 1 has much more materials to draw from too. Im ok with either one.

Also the Grey Knights idea was popular from the other thread, could still work here.

Dark Archive

who has access to daemonhunter?

I have daemon hunter. Would be open to playing DH1.

Jereru: They are very weak. DH1 is a very horror bad guys sometimes win. Missions are not easy, nor always direct. It's 100% possible to die in every single encounter, and mission survival can be the alternative to mission success.

I played through all of DH1 with a local group. It's good but needs the right mind set.
Deathwatch/Daemon Hunter is a lot easier to survive many threats, but the missions are no less hard.

I don't know about Daemon Hunter. Is it a FFG game? I could ask my local store for it, but would probably need some details. About Dark Heresy, if that's what you want to play, I'm fine. I just thought being bounty hunters would fit better with a game where you would be a bit tougher, but no problem.

Daemon Hunter is the Grey Knight/Ordo Malleus Supplement for Dark Heresy1. It was released around the same time as deathwatch so almost all of the Space Marine rules are the same. It contains some very powerful options for DH1 characters as well as rules for making some interesting Daemons, both flavorful and nearly uncombatable. Unless of course you play as a Grey Knight, whose details are presented. They aren't like playing a normal chapter, they are the most specialized of the special snowflakes.

It can all be scaled to any level. If we are weaker, then we are hunting weaker things, eventually working ourselves up and chasing bigger deadlier bounties, that the duties of a good GM and balancing things to keep us interested. But agreed, DH is scary and dark. It allows much flexibility though for unique PCs and is a more "forgiving" setting if you are radical.

I've got all the books. Never played a GK, so if that's where this is headed, I'm excited.

Oh, I'll ask for the books, then.

DH1 is my favorite of the rulesets. It offers a lot of diverse options for characters.

I had a friend lend me his books for a few days (including Daemon Hunter and 4 or 5 more books which I don't know if will be useful).

Dark Archive

Can you guys suggest Warhammer novels featuring the Grey Knights?

No idea. Are you planning on using Grey Knights (this I get from your last request and your question about our availability of Daemon Hunter)?

Sadly i have only read the Flesh Tearer's books. But there is a lot of information on Grey Knights on warhammer wiki, wikia, and 1d4chan.

The only series that comes to mind is the Grey Knight Omnibus (Grey knights, Dark Adeptus and Hammer of Daemons) by Ben Counter.

Sad this never got picked up.

Scarab Sages

Well, at the very least it should be a good reminder that there is interest in 40k games on this forum.

Yeah..

Dark Archive

Infamous Inquisitor, Seth Loki, Needs New Acolytes.

Was going to post today on that thread... To late now :)

Dark Archive

You may still get a chance to play 40k. I will be rebooting my Starfall (Deathwatch) game. Stay tuned.

Dark Archive

My Starfall Reboot Recruitment thread is up. Please read the instructions for making a submission. Thank you.
