I am very excited for it, it seems like it will be super fun and awesome, and also I can finally run a sci-fi (or science fantasy, I guess) game without having to browbeat my players into learning a brand-new system :P
GM Mikkel |
@Cel: Thanks - the aftermath is tough, but we're all getting by.
@Alaina: When I checked this thread I first saw your "This." post without context and my reaction was YES.
It reminds me a lot of a setting like the Stargate universe, where you have a very different mix of technology (and/or magic in this case) depending on the planet. Lots of opportunity for interesting culture clash.
Xizoh Shadelock |
Wow, that's going to be nice. My local group has tried a few sci fi games, but every one's rules left us unhappy and confused. That made us abandon them even though the setting were amazing (looking at you Cthulutech!)
Henrietta Coy |
Oh lord I love Cthulutech so much, it pushes all my buttons (but mostly the PUNCHING GREAT OLD ONES IN THE FACE WITH MECHS one).
Also, I am here, just not much Henri can really react to? >_>
Dulae Toema |
I am very, very excited for it! I played Alternity way back in the day a little bit and really loved the way they handled damage done to people/vehicles/spaceships in one system. Wouldn't be at all compatible with pathfinder though.
GM Mikkel |
Hey group.
Dismissing Cel from the official team was pretty much the only outcome given the captain’s character, what she knows, and Cel’s behavior.
I’m relying on Cel’s tenacious attitude and his focus on the missing soldiers to lead him to meet up with the rest of the party anyway on their way up to the mountain. (But he won’t get paid for it.)
I’ve spoken with Dulae, who is the most likely PC in the party to be practical before kind, and it seems viable that Cel wouldn’t be turned away from tagging along unofficially.
This will require a little bit of meta from all PCs to make sure the whole gang gets back together again, but that’s my end goal.
Henrietta Coy |
Yeesh, much more drastic consequences than I originally thought. But dammit, Cel's a friend! And I fight for my friends' rights to make money! I avoided making my post as directly antagonistic as I usually would, though, hopefully she doesn't get kicked off too cause she still wants the gold.
Cel Runil |
Hey all, I'm posting probably a bit out of order again, but it's that piece of a fiance who wants to do all the things. Not sure how much posting I'll get in today, so I just wanted to make sure I didn't hold up the story! Feel free to OOC adjust my place in the post order, GM.
GM Mikkel |
I will do, Cel. Have fun doing all the things! (Incidentally, all.the.things reminds me of one of the best hyperbole and a half posts.)
Dulae Toema |
Hi all - I have a post ready but Paizo is having an error every time I try - I'll keep trying.
Henrietta Coy |
I think in character I would keep arguing but I probably shouldn't do it in the captain's office. You and I will have words later, Dulae.
GM Mikkel |
I appreciate that bit of meta Henri (if that is meta) and I look forward to seeing that conversation.
I'll give Xizoh a few more hours to reply in character since I feel less comfortable bot-ing this response. I think I still have permission to bot today, so I'll do that if need be before I move things forward tonight.
(Also I just posted this as Dulae by accident, because Thaago reported he couldn't post as Dulae and I didn't believe him. (I believe him now. And that roll was a 19.))
Alaina 'Iron Wolf' Steele |
@ Dulae - There is a trick I use when I'm at work, especially with large posts. Type it all out on Notepad (or equivalent program), then copy/paste and click preview. If it previews, then submit.
Xizoh Shadelock |
Wow, you guy's were awful busy while I was gone.
Dulae Toema |
@ Dulae - There is a trick I use when I'm at work, especially with large posts. Type it all out on Notepad (or equivalent program), then copy/paste and click preview. If it previews, then submit.
Yeah, luckily I had copied the post before I tried to submit.
For some reason it wouldn't accept the post as long as a die roll (diplomacy :P) was in it, even after I had switched computers. Once I took the roll out, it was fine. (But the preview worked...)
I think in character I would keep arguing but I probably shouldn't do it in the captain's office. You and I will have words later, Dulae.
I look forward to this as well! I totally bought your characters reasoning of needing the money, so gritting her teeth and bearing it. I see a good bunch of interaction when Cel rejoins the team and you convince me to go along with it.
Henrietta Coy |
Maybe part of it? It only comes down to about her elbow and starts on her shoulder so they can probably see the bottom half.
GM Mikkel |
Hey group, a couple announcements.
Tomorrow I start a conference that runs through Saturday. Conferences are always a crapshoot in terms of downtime, but there’s some chance I won’t get to check the forums until about midnight Eastern. But I plan to post at least once a day, more if I can.
Sunday I fly back to the west coast. Given that LAX is the armpit of Hades, I might be off the grid for ~12 hours (until pretty late Eastern time).
Also, I don’t know if it’s weird to comment on current events in these forums, but since we interact with each other pretty much every day and it probably doesn’t go without saying, I wanted to make sure you all know if you’re LGBTQ, or Muslim, or a person of color, or a member of another underrepresented group (or an ally) that you are welcome here. And I’d very much like to be an ally to you if so, although I’m still learning the best practices (insight on this is quite welcome, if you’d like and you feel comfortable).
GM Mikkel |
@Cel - to help me calculate the perception of the rest of the party when they exit, I described the alley a bit further (now posted in gameplay).
Assuming Cel doesn't meet the group if they are calling for him, would he actively hide from them knowing they are looking for him? (And if so, how exactly?)
You should probably also post your response in gameplay, unless you have follow-ups.
Cel Runil |
I think Cel would assume that he's not allowed to go based on the information he got before running out. My intent would be for him to basically stalk the group until they leave to find the missing soldiers. He would then try to stay tangential to the party, but hidden as they search. He's clearly not thought this through very well, but it's what he would do given the circumstances in his mind.
Henrietta Coy |
Sounds good, I'll be here! I probably don't want to spend too much time away from the party so it'll probably be only 1 or two more posts in the store.
On the subject of current events, thanks. Honestly it was decently clear when you emphasized the LGBT+ nature of the world/the game you wanted to run, but explicitly stating it is good :)
Henrietta Coy |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Ayyy I still like drawing and we a party now boyz! Sorry for A: Probably not getting your character right and B: Being terrible at drawing, but I had some time today so whatever :P (Also I couldn't find a height for Cel so I just assumed he was very short)
Xizoh Shadelock |
Beautiful. I love Xizoh's cloak and Anathema's little dialogue. That's actually pretty close to how I imagine them.
GM Mikkel |
Hi group - I'm back on the west coast now and I got a lot of writing and map-making done on the plane.
It's supposed to be 109F here tomorrow (it's still above 100F now), so if I don't melt first I should be back on track for my usual posting schedule. (Building a city in a desert seems more and more like a bad plan.)
Henrietta Coy |
HAHAHA YOU LIVE IN NEVADA? You fool. You have doomed yourself, come up to the Pacific Northwest where 70 is considered boiling.
Henrietta Coy |
Ah ok, whenever somebody says "desert" I just go to Nevada, I've been down to death valley so many times I forget that there are parts of the country that can get similarly hot.
Cel Runil |
Oh yeah, those are great, Henri! I'm a tad behind on reading things it seems!
And yes, we Seattlites get the best weather...and we suck and handling anything outside of cozy :)
GM Mikkel |
Apparently it's supposed to be about 115F near Vegas tomorrow. (Nope.)
I came pretty close to Death Valley in bloom during my move here from the deep south (another questionable life choice, being at times literally a sauna). I should visit, it's pretty much right there by western-US travel scales, but I think I will wait until at least November. (I did see Zion. That was amazing.)
Xizoh Shadelock |
I feel so bad for you people. It's been mid 90's here and I feel like I'm dying. Curse you south eastern Idaho!
GM Mikkel |
Huh, I didn't realize we have a pretty west-leaning geographical spread in the US. Is Dulae the only one in Eastern time? I think I have the impression Alaina is also out west, but I'm not sure what from.
Also, you are all welcome to join me in pestering Thaago to go the hell to bed whenever Dulae posts something past midnight our time. (For example: @Dulae: Go to bed. Daylight is good for humans.)
I have never been to Idaho, Xizoh. What's summer usually like there?
Henrietta Coy |
@Alaina unfortunately I was not, I was born in good ol' Oklahoma and then lived in Kansas for most of my childhood. I have been to the east coast a lot, though. If nothing else the Midwest is a very good place to drive to everywhere else in the states.
Also, @Dulae do not trust them, daylight gives cancer and attracts bugs and other humans. You are only safe in a lightless sky.
Henrietta Coy |
I mean, I'm in Portland, you're in San Diego, we're basically on opposite sides of the same coast.
Alaina 'Iron Wolf' Steele |
No what I mean is, Cel, Xizoh, and I are from Abbhen. You were born in Altiendel and moved to Abbhen. Dulae is from Altiendel and stayed there.
Instead of North and South, we're East and West. Do you get what I mean?
