need help pricing a magical item

Homebrew and House Rules

hi all, I have this idea for a magical Slot item that whilst worn grant the wearer the Natural Jouster Feat, even if they don't meet the prerequisites.

Haven't decided on which item slot yet so any advice would be appreciated.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

I would base it on monstrous physique II (the spell needed to transform a creature into a centaur). I would also require the user to actually transform into a centaur when using this item (otherwise you'd only get the advantages of being mounted without any drawbacks).

Shoulder (transformation), boots (speed), and belt (physical prowess) seem like obvious candidates for a slot. Armor could work as well. A slotless wooden horse (that merges with the user's body) would be hilarious.

to be honest, I don't want the magic item to turn a player into a centaur. and I was thinking about maybe splitting into two slot items instead of one.

Glove of piercing strike; You can wield a lance one-handed as if you were mounted. And Boots of the Rocket; You deal double damage with a lance when charging.

maybe downgrading it into two slot items will be more appropriate.

So. Since the Natural Jouster Feat isn't a prerequisite for anything, you simply want to gain the benefits of being mounted without actually having a mount?

I'm guessing you're playing a class which isn't granted an animal companion. So while you want to use a lance, you don't want to buy a new horse everytime it gets killed. Correct?

So either get animal companion through an archetype, buy lots of (expendable) horses, or buy the Talisman of the Summoned Steed (or 2-3 of em).

no, I just think it'll be fun to wield a lance and be good with it without the need to be mounted.

Hm.

What are the (notable) advantages of these items?

*****

Gloves of piercing strike:

You would be able to wield a reach weapon one handed.

As far as I know, there is no other weapon but the lance which allows you to get reach one-handed. So these gloves open up new possibilites for reach AoO builds. (Granting them the ability to wield shields.)

Pretty niche market, but every reach build would consider it at least once. 5000 to 10,000 gp.

*****

Boots of the Rocket:

Combine them with pounce and dish out horrible, horrible damage.

I would probably price them at around 15,000 to 30,000 gp.*
If this item existed, there wouldn't be any guide about barbarians which didn't mention it. (Barbarians can get pounce)

And even if we don't combine it with pounce, it is still very valuable to deal double damage on charges.

*Quick Runner's Shirt a item which grants a similar benefit, so as long as you couldn't combine the boots with pounce the price would be reduced to match the QRS. Place a uses/day (maybe 5?) and there shouldn't be that much of a difference between the boots and the shirt.
