thejeff wrote:Is Egwene really more of a protagonist than Matt or Perrin? Or even Elayne and Nynaeve?Egwene is absolutely the co-protagonist of the story, along with Rand. The key theme of the series is duality: order/chaos, good/evil, law/anarchy, light/shadow and of course male/female. Rand and Egwene's stories really mirror and parallel one another, and the way their story arcs differ from one another is kind of telling.

Well when you put it that way...

Rosamund Pike cast as Moiraine.
I suspect we'll be getting the rest of the main cast soon, as production ramps up for September.

HAAAAAAAAWWT!

Primary cast announced: Rand, Egwene, Perrin, Nynaeve, Mat.
Mostly unknowns, as expected, although the actress playing Nynaeve is a former Power Range, which is kind of cool.

"OK - let's try some different braid-tugging scenarios. First, Rand is being a typical addle-pated male...Good, I felt your frustration. OK - something different. Lan is getting you all hot and bothered and he really smells good, but at the same time he and Perrin are talking about how good the ale will taste when you reach the next inn...Nice - very conflicted tugging."

I mean...he SORT of looks like Lan...I just never imagined him as Asian.
The Seanchan sure. But not Lan.
The Borderlanders are pretty much Asian (or Asian predominating over the mixed ethnicities that populate the WoT world). The Shienarans are Japanese, the Saldaeans are possibly Chinese and the others are somewhere in between. I know some fans saw Malkieri more as Tibetan, but Korean also works.
The Seanchan continent is utterly gigantic and contains a vast range of ethnic groups, including European-like areas and African-like areas. Tuon is basically equatorial African, for example.

First glimpse of Rosamund Pike as Moiraine Damodred.
I'm getting that Amazon are VERY happy they cast her in this given her slew of awards recently.

Tadashi is here.
Hoping for a preview and air date soon. Only thing I won't like is Amazon will most likely do weekly episode releases instead of all at once like Netflix. I love to binge.
That's unclear. A lot of the weekly releases in the past year have been due to Covid impacts on production. Choosing to start the release earlier rather than delay for the full season to be ready. That being said, with Disney+ showing huge success with weekly, and more data points Amazon gets from it's experiments with weekly, if the numbers for overall hours streamed and unique customers watching are good, there's a greater likelihood more and more shows will be released episodically. Netflix has also experimented with some shows episodic, so I wouldn't be surprised if they will start doing more episodic releases as well.

Amazon was veering towards weekly releases pre-COVID anyway. With such short seasons these days, it really doesn't make much odds anyway, the only gain you get is a few extra weeks to work on post for the final episode, which is not to be sniffed at, but it's also not absolutely essential.
The trend back towards episodic release is more to do with buzz. Various data analysis showed that discussion of STRANGER THINGS Season 3 peaked about six or seven days after the entire season aired and then faded away quite quickly after that, compared to the likes of THE BOYS, THE MANDALORIAN, THE EXPANSE and WANDAVISION which kept a high level of engagement up for week after week after week, and as the buzz grew more subscribers signed up.
I think Netflix will reluctantly move away from the binge model, though, as it is their thing and they've committed heavily to it, whilst other streamers are much less wedded to it.
As for an air date, they still need to finish filming. If they can get back to Prague in May/June for the couple of weeks they need to get the last shots, this could easily air in September/October. If not (the Czech Republic's COVID outbreak is one of the worst in Europe), they could release the first six episodes and put the last two back to Season 2 (which I wouldn't be surprised were filmed elsewhere).
