Lews Therin isn't THAT crazy. I mean Padain Fain, now HE'S nuts. ;)

Is Egwene really more of a protagonist than Matt or Perrin? Or even Elayne and Nynaeve?

Egwene is absolutely the co-protagonist of the story, along with Rand. The key theme of the series is duality: order/chaos, good/evil, law/anarchy, light/shadow and of course male/female. Rand and Egwene's stories really mirror and parallel one another, and the way their story arcs differ from one another is kind of telling.

** spoiler omitted **...

Well when you put it that way...

Rosamund Pike cast as Moiraine.

I suspect we'll be getting the rest of the main cast soon, as production ramps up for September.

Well I don't DISAPPROVE of the casting... Still waiting to see who they cast for Rand, Matt and Perrin though. That and Padan Fain.

HAAAAAAAAWWT!

Rosamund pike can do the icey lady very well

Never thought Moririane as "icy"...practical sure. A little secretive. But if anyone had the cold ice queen feel, that would be Siuan Sanche myself. But that's just me.

But she's all hot headed and angry.

Aes sedai come in two varieties. ice cold or hot headed.

Hama,

Suian??? The woman that helped Moraine keep the secret of Rand's birth??? The one that had like two-three plots moving at once? Sorry I guess we've read different books then.

But Vid is correct, Aes Sedai do come in two flavors.

...I mean, yeah. XD That tends to happen when dualism is the #1 theme of your series.

Red,

Fair point.

Primary cast announced: Rand, Egwene, Perrin, Nynaeve, Mat.

Mostly unknowns, as expected, although the actress playing Nynaeve is a former Power Range, which is kind of cool.

I wonder how much braid-tugging was involved in the audition process.

The cast choice for Mat appears spot on! :) :) :)

I like the casting in terms of its diversity, but I agree with PDK. They cast Mat perfectly.

Also Matt, I'm assuming the braid tugging was a limited factor...

"OK - let's try some different braid-tugging scenarios. First, Rand is being a typical addle-pated male...Good, I felt your frustration. OK - something different. Lan is getting you all hot and bothered and he really smells good, but at the same time he and Perrin are talking about how good the ale will taste when you reach the next inn...Nice - very conflicted tugging."

I'm assuming more emoting than braid tugging.

Nynaeve has so many braids! How will she tug them all?

I'm calling it now, the very first episode someone braid tugs there will be a GIF of it online before the episode is over.

It's funny, because I suspect that on screen all the braid tugging and skirt smoothing would be largely unnoticed, if it wasn't already a thing from the books. Just kind of background mannerisms that are way more subtle when seen than when described.

I have no idea but I'm not betting against Cape's idea.

Yeah I always feel like a good 10-20% of the books was braid tugging and skirt smoothing.

I honestly only care if they don't get someone scary to pull off Padan Fain. He always struck me as one of the more interesting villains.

I always imagined him as Wormtongue if Wormtongue was dangerous.

Eh. I mean I get it...but I always thought of him more like Iago with a dash of Joker's slightly crazy.

Lan Mandragoran cast.

I mean...he SORT of looks like Lan...I just never imagined him as Asian.

The Seanchan sure. But not Lan.

The Seanchan sure. But not Lan.

The Borderlanders are pretty much Asian (or Asian predominating over the mixed ethnicities that populate the WoT world). The Shienarans are Japanese, the Saldaeans are possibly Chinese and the others are somewhere in between. I know some fans saw Malkieri more as Tibetan, but Korean also works.

The Seanchan continent is utterly gigantic and contains a vast range of ethnic groups, including European-like areas and African-like areas. Tuon is basically equatorial African, for example.

I guess you and I had different visions of what nationalities in WoT looked like. But then again I already was not happy with how they treated the one NON-Shadow bad guy at the end...

Oh my goodness, it's Tadashi!

All my geek fandom wires are crossed...

I don't know who that is...but I'm glad you're happy Set.

^ The actor chosen for the part of Lan is also the voice actor of Tadashi Hamada from Disney's Big Hero 6, who was Hiro's older brother & creator of Baymax.
