Large creature in a small space.

Rules Questions

I have a question, and I may be missing the answer so I would love assistance. My players have a companion that is large sized. They only way to get where they are going is to go through a small sized mile long tunnel. (specifically it is 5 ft high, 5 ft wide. and 1 mile long.)

Is there any way for the large creature to squeeze through.

Is there any magic they can use to get him through? (reduce person has too short of a duration to make it through and they are only 4th level.)
This option is probably moot as they're in a small town with a 1,500 gp purchase limit. Max caster level 3rd.

Side note-what happens if reduce person runs out while he is in the tunnel?

Thanks everyone!

5ft by 5ft isn't small sized, that's medium sized. A large creature can fit through that by squeezing.

Does he have ranks in Escape Artist?

Try Again: Varies. You can make another check after a failed check if you're squeezing your way through a tight space, making multiple checks. If the situation permits, you can make additional checks, or even take 20, as long as you're not being actively opposed.

Squeezing for an entire mile would presumably require a great number of checks, and take a very long time, but that's the canonical way to do it.

Reduce person should actually work just fine as long as the tunnel doesn't widen in the middle, because it wearing off should be equivalent to an enlarge person being cast, and

If insufficient room is available for the desired growth, the creature attains the maximum possible size and may make a Strength check (using its increased Strength) to burst any enclosures in the process. If it fails, it is constrained without harm by the materials enclosing it—the spell cannot be used to crush a creature by increasing its size.

So he'll expand until his head hits the ceiling, then stop. Uncomfortable but he can move.

However, reduce person can only be cast on a humanoid, so if by "companion" you mean "animal companion" they're out of luck. (Yes, the "share spells" feature can bypass that, but the spell would have to come from a class that grants an animal companion, and I don't think any of them get reduce person.)

A suit of heavy hosteling armor would be ideal, but that's 7500 gp extra.

Oops, forgot carry companion! That's probably perfect, it's a 2nd-level spell for a bunch of classes. Really should have thought of that first, it's basically intended for exactly this....

Sorry, to clarify it is an ogre.

Reduce person would cause him to become constrained is how I would rule it also. That still leaves him stuck.

As far as squeezing, since the prd says a creatures can squeeze through a space half its width. Since it is half his width and half his height I thought it would be too tight.
