This is a discussion thread for a play-by-post of "Battle of Bloodmarch Hill". If all goes well, it will continue into the Giantslayer Adventure Path.
Characters are to be created with a 20 point buy. Legal sources include any hardcover rulebooks represented in the PRD, as well as the Inner Sea World Guide. Other sources will be generally disallowed, but you may make specific requests (ex. things from the Giant Hunter's Handbook are likely to be allowed). 150 gp for starting equipment.
Players should download the campaign Players' Guide here. Starting characters get 2 Traits, including one from this guide.
As well as the recommendations from the guide, I strongly suggest that the group include a positive energy channeler. The hooks will probably work best for those who trend towards Lawful and/or Good. The first adventure is mostly in a small town, so mounts and exotic pets will be slow starters (though they may be very useful in later chapters). Worshipers of Iomedae, Abadar, or Torag would be extremely appropriate. Gorum ,ay be problematic (half-orcs are viewed with sympathy, but the setting is a fortress town in the midst of the orc hordes).

I am almost 100% certain playing a dwarf ranger. She is named for her uncle, Zeffin the brave, who disappeared a century ago and is presumed dead. All she knows is he was investigating a ruin, which was rumoured to be named "Qausqueton."
I have a couple of questions. I am thinking about getting a dwarven boulder helm. It lets me make a free bullrush if I hit with it. Does that mean it doesn't provoke aoo, even if I don't have improved bull rush?
Second, and you don't actually have to answer this, I am planning on focusing on anti-giant advantages. For favoured enemy, I get one at first level, and one at fourth. I'd actually prefer to take giants as my first choice for character reasons, but is that a waste? I could take orcs at first and then double up on giants at fourth, but that feels weird since I plan to trade my dwarf hatred of orcs for a bonus against giants.
Are we going to live to see fourth level?

Okay, i am going to be an elf wizard, specializing in evocation with necromancy & enchantment as my prhibited schools. I am planning on being a native of trunau with the appropriate trait and schooled under what's-her-face the local mage. I have a hatred for the horde and want to master magic so i can crush the horde beneath the power of my magic and protect trunau.

Looking at an Aasimar cleric of Iomedae probably with:
- Glory domain, Heroism subdomain.
- Sun domain, Light subdomain
If someone else really wants to play a cleric, I think I might want to look into a halfling ninja.

I will enjoy the Aasimar cleric, but I'm also happy to pick something else if someone else wants the cleric.
Mind you if I do play the Aasimar cleric, there's a good chance I'll base the appearance on Ziggy Stardust, so I don't have to decide whether he's a straight cleric... (Or whether she's a straight cleric...) (Or should I name the cleric "Pat"?)

I endorse this character concept!
Although... it does make me think of Lord of the Flies. "Sucks to your Aasimar, Ziggy!"
Actually, I think you should name them "All," after Benedict Cumberbach's character in Zoolander 2.

This is mainly intended for our new players, but I'm sure there's useful stuff for everybody here. Spoilered for space.
It's usually easiest to read if you post in 3rd person, except when speaking. So: Glom the Mighty bravely casts Magic Missile at the Darkness. Or: "I want some Mountain Dew!"
Underneath the box where you can write responses is a place that says "How to format your text" and a box that says "Show". It shows most of the ways to format your text (duh). All of them use the same idea: you start with something in square brackets, put in your text, then close with the same thing in square brackets but with a slash in front.
So, if you want to make something bold, you would put it as (b)Never trust Glen, especially after the Silver Train.(/b) but using square brackets, and it will come out as Never trust Glen, especially after the Silver Train.
Similar things work for italics, bigger, and smaller. Some games use bold for any speaking, and italics for thoughts, but we haven't been doing that yet. I use italics for spells and magic items, like the rulebooks.
(ooc) turns your text blue, and we use it for out-of-character statements. Something like: Glom the Mighty tries to get Sidewinder the mule to go under the portcullis. What skill do I need to roll?
Spoiler lets you hide text behind a box, so it may be used for secret messages and stuff. Sometimes I will use it to show a bunch of possibilities depending on how good your check is. It looks something like (spoiler= everybody but Glen)Let's all gang up on Glen!(/spoiler). I can't show how it looks here, because you cannot put spoilers inside spoilers.
You can link people to other sites by using (url=Rickroll)Hey! Look at this(/url) and it looks like Just kidding about the Rickroll. Click here.
And most important! Dice! You roll dice by typing (dice=attack on Glen)1d20+25;1d10(/dice) and when you actually use the square brackets it looks like: Die, Glen, Die!: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (2) + 20 = 221d10 ⇒ 9. You can put as many dice as you want in there by separating them with semicolons, or do things like 3d10, and it will work. One thing I often do is "Preview" my dice rolls. The result will stay the same, and it lets me see how well I rolled so I can describe what happened, or confirm a crit, or whatever.
That's most of it, I think.

Here are some procedural/rules things that we have worked out in our other game.
I need a copy of your character somehow. Either email me some sort of character sheet, or set it up on your alias page the way that Craig does here.
Please put useful info for me into a banner (like Zepfina and Eldan have above) including hp, saves, Perception bonus, initiative, and AC. You do this by going to your Alias Profile and putting it all into the Class/Level section.
To speed things up a bit, I usually roll initiative for everybody, and also roll opportunity attacks unless asked not to.
I reserve the right to post on your behalf after waiting for a reasonable time. This becomes especially true during combat. I'll usually give it about 24 hours from when your action is up in that case. One way to get around this is to post ahead of your turn by putting your action in a Spoiler. Also, I sometimes will move the game forward if there seems to be a general consensus about where to go, but nobody actually agreeing and saying you do it.
I try to put battlemaps up on the Drive fairly frequently, but you will sometimes have to mentally move a few things around based on posts.
Anything I missed, veteran players? Or any questions?

As an aside, You can add more stuff to the banner by putting it in the gender and race lines. Generally there is enough room in just one, but I've seen that some people put their whole character in the banner in spoiler boxes.
I clicked your link. I was sure it really was going to be a rickroll, but that video is hilarious.

Hey this is Beatrix, and my awesome dragon druid. btw HeroLab can export a stat block formatted for message boards. Also, my father is a terrible liar

One thing that I did not realize at first is that once the gameplay thread gets going, you can click on the link to your profile at the top of any page, and then click the campaign tab, and it will give you direct links to the various threads related to any and all games you are in, including a little notation and link to any new posts since you last looked at it. This is the fastest way to check if there are new posts.
That may have been obvious to everyone else, or Neil may have told everyone that at some point when I distracted by an annoying teenager, but if you missed it, now you know.

DM Rambler |

Oh. I forgot to mention that I'm running without experience points. It's much easier to just let you know when you've done enough to level up.
I now have copies of everybody's characters except Helen, who I just invited last night. While she is figuring things out, you can all check out the players' guide (if you haven't already), especially the info on Trunau. The entire first adventure takes place in the immediate area, so it will help if you're a bit familiar with it.
Hopefully I will get time to look at your characters today.

Eldan Whitecrow |

So, are we starting this adventure knowing each other? Is anyone else a native of trunau? I would think that anyone who is native would likely know each other. I am just wondering if we should share stuff about our characters here before we start up the adventure.
