Eh. Well to be fair, they weren't always small. But regardless, I'm saddened to see another child of Sinestro turn her back in the GL. I mean I get in some ways...but still!

Yeah, I was disappointed how it ended too, although it was inevitable (that is the way comics are).

Action - Don't know why, but I have had enough of the Eradicator.
I think he has been overused after his appearance in Reign of Superman.
Superman said Henshaw killed millions.
I guess the destruction of Coast City happened in the Rebirth timeline.
Nice development with Zod, although it was set up years ago.

Detective - Looks like Jean Paul may finally be his own person.
Orphan and Batwoman tag-team was pretty good.

Justice League America - Interesting, the Lord of Chaos and Order are making their presence felt in the Rebirth timeline.
Interesting that Frost only has a slight connection to the RED (all living things that are not plants).
I wonder if she is considered alive?

The few others I had time to read didn't advance too much.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Describing Frost's connection to the Red as Phagic is actually very interesting

Infact one of the Rebirth things I do like that they are keeping is this whole Green/Red/Rot(Grey)trinity of life.

I'm not wrong in thinking the guy they went to talk to is a new version of B'wana Beast am I?

Charles: Don't you mean Cyborg Superman? I had enough of him as well. Eradicator was just ehh...

I'm kinda sick of Eradicator as well, honestly. It represents a vision of Krypton that was thrown away after the "turn everything on its head to the EXTREME!" period of the 90's was finally behind us. It's a side of Krypton that never needed to exist and really isn't something that fits with the current version(s) of Krypton. It's one of those "why is this still here" elements that just needs to go.

Since there are now 2 Cyborg Supermen, I am noting which one.

For the record: Cyborg Superman 1 is Hank Henshaw; Cyborg Superman 2 is Supergirl's father Zor-El (which I do not like AT ALL).

Mostly I think it's sad that Christopher Kent is no more. But I guess it had to be since we have JONATHAN Kent instead.

I do like the stuff in Justice League, the Red, the Lords of Chaos and Order, all that.

As for Cyborg Superman's destruction of Coast City, I think because of Rebirth, it's back. Probably.

Mostly I just felt like Yellow Lanterns broke bad because Sornak couldn't handle being Yellow. I guess.

Coast city getting destroyed has been official for a while now. Hal ran into Paralax Hal (one of our Convergence escapies) and remembers that whole part of his life. He tried to talk Para-Hal down and explain about the FearBug but couldn't reach the guy.

Para-Hal is still out there somewhere

Grey,

True. I keep wondering when he might return...

Wasn't Chris Kent a Phantom Zone child and thus subject to some of the reality-distortion/multiple-universe effects of the Zone? He could still be out there, since the Zone's rules and laws change based on the day of the week.

I think finding out her son was dead has pushed her over the edge.

She said the Green Lanterns had killed a child of Sinestro in order to work the Yellow Lanterns into a frenzy.
She is blaming them for doing something they did not know they did.

Charles,

There is that too I guess. I just felt...jarred by the entire thing.

Jem,

Yes he was but remember reality has changed too so it might be the Phantom Zone isn't quite the same Phantom Zone pre-Flashpoint.

Thomas:

I'm just curious to find out if all those folks Zod just zapped into the Zone are going to run into Kara's BFF who now runs the place, or what...

It would be so nice to have continuity between titles where the Zone is concerned.

Jem,

I'm guessing that their release happened BEFORE Psi got control over her powers.

So Charles, thoughts on Green Lanterns? Part three of War of Jokes and Riddles? Justice League kids from the future? New Gods comic?

Too bad the Kryptonian went poof, but at least Baz has a new ring.

Kind of neat seeing Jessica put on her best Guy Gardner bad ass trainer hat

Yeah that was pretty neat Grey. I almost felt like "So that's another reason why they wanted Guy to train her!"

Some of these are from last week.

Green Lanters - I agree with Grey, Jessica channeling Guy was great.
And yes it was too bad the Kryptonian died. Too much will sounds like a trait of all Kryptonians. Most of them seem to be single minded about something.

Wonder Woman - Now we know what all those tests were for.

Flash - What is with the blame Barry for everything just because he doesn't reveal his secret identity. That is lame.

Superman - Called it. Final stop is Metropolis. I love the history lessons.

Batman - Gordan humiliating himself to try to stop the war was interesting. Soldiers vs villains, saw that outcome coming.
I noticed Clayface was on Joker's side. I think there is more than one Clayface active right now, so it might be one of the others.

Justice League - This has been hinted at since the start. The world is going to be destroyed and the Justice League is involved and it can't be stopped.

Suicide Squad - Harley in charge is pretty neat. Boomer left in the cold, couldn't happen to a worse guy.

Teen Titans - Shut up Damien. (Nuff Said)

Charles Scholz wrote:

Two word summary:

Bad Writing.

To be fair, one of my daughters (her only reference to the character being the CW TV show) enjoys blaming Barry for pretty much everything, using the Flashpoint event as a justification... ;-)

Charles,

Bad writing or not, at least Barry didn't kill Thawne. Iris got that distinct pleasure. Otherwise, yes it's kind of sad to see Barry get screwed over even if it's partial his own fault.

As for the Titans getting Damien to shut up, eh. I do agree Starfire is the better choice of leader for this group.

Mostly though, Justice League's kids are probably going to be a kind of Elsewhere kind of thing. But I could be wrong.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

New Gods Special was nice, Orion going all out on Kalibak was pretty brutal.
2nd story was neat too

good way to pay tribute to Kirby with the older Kirby story at the end.

Makes me think back to the old DC Digest books I used to buy when I was a kid. It Supermarket book reprinting a lot of older DC stories. Introduced me to the Spectre and the Sandman in his yellow and purple outfit. Heck it would even have Dr. Thirteen sometimes

New Gods Special was probably my favorite DC read of this week.

Thomas Seitz wrote:

What I found neat was compairing the old Kirby Lonar story at the back to thte front story.

The Art in the modern comics may be a lot more dynamic and eye catching but the use of narration in the older stuff is impressive. There is some deep writting there and kids were reading this back in the day. The narration of the encounter between Orion and the Battle Horse was impressive.

Really is an art that modern comics have lost in a way

Yeah sometimes the old style (in terms of writing and presentation of said writing) is better than it is today.

Silver Age Legion of Super Heroes Omnibus Part 1.
Supposed to have every Legion appearance, but they didn't include Wonder Woman 101 which introduced the Time Trapper.
They only made a reference about the Time Barrier that he put up and them trying to break through in Adventure 317.
Anyone who doesn't know anything about the Legion who reads this would be scrambling through previous pages trying to find what they are talking about.
I was really hoping it would have been there since it is one of the few Legion stories I have never seen.

Edit: Just read Wikipedia entry about the Time Trapper. It was retconned that he was the T.Y. Masters that appeared in Wonder Woman 101.
He was first mentioned in Adventure 317 as having put up the Time Barrier without ever showing a previous fight with the Legion. So disappointing.

That seems to be a theme, to name-drop stuff to be developed (or not...)later. I've read that there was a reference to a 'first battle with Mordru' that was never shown either. And the Fatal Five were introduced as legendary villains with their own infamous careers, before they even gathered as a team in their first appearance.

I suppose I have to pick up this Omnibus. I love classic Legion stories.

Regardless, the Time Trapper is still an important aspect of DC timelines.

Probably because those early LSH stories were a vehicle for Superboy, teaming up with the heroes of the future who were inspired by him. We didn't need to see their adventures without him, but it was important that there were some. Established them as heroes in their own right without bothering us with details of what they did without the big name character.

Still love the Time Trapper. :)

Action - This Machinesmith(?) is interesting. A suped up version of Marvel's Controller. Was he introduced in New 52?

Batgirl & Birds of Prey - Oracle is back.

Detective - VR Batman.

Flash - Starting to get bored. May drop soon.

Hal Jordan & GL Corps - Another one I may drop.

JLA - He's probably not who we think it is.

Mister Miracle - Seriously?

Newsboys & Boy Commandos - Too much like one of Chalkyn's Shadow stories.

Suicide Squad - I knew Waller couldn't be trusted. That woman needs to go.

Supergirl - Didn't Red K once do that to Superman?

Superwoman - Looks like they are borrowing from the Smallville TV show.

Titans - Saw that coming as soon as he put the helmet on.

Charles,

I don't recall him in any form but eh.

Flash's problem is they've taken away Thawne and made him forgettable.

I liked both Mister Miracle and Hal. Though admittedly, Green Lanterns is better. But I like the fact they're tying it into Metal.

But yeah the Titans traitor reveal, not that surprising after what happened in the Lazarus Contract stuff.

Spoiler:
Scott Free trying to commit suicide because Oberon has died? Then lives in a fantasy world where he is still alive? I can see this happening to a human, but not a New God.
I know some of the story was flashback and some was looking at a TV, but did they have to make the pictures so bad?

Charles,

I had a slightly different read...

Spoiler:
In that Scott tried to kill himself to prove he could escape Death. Whether or not he succeeded...is unclear.

Two issues in to Dark/Metal (Forge, Casting) and I feel like I've missed several issues of the story somewhere. Batman referring to "all the things he's seen", for example. The Joker's been locked up under the Batcave for how long? Both he and Batman died and got reborn due to being immersed in alien-metal enriched water?

So far it feels like its own retcon or perhaps an Elseworlds story, painted only in broad strokes ("Details? nah, that would bog us down in continuity later.")

I remember the two of them dying and coming back. They both lost all memory of being Batman and Joker. Gordon put on his Bat/Bunny mecha suit and ran around the city for a while. Then Bruce figured out something was up, found the cave and some device he built ages ago that allowed him to Reload Batman into his head.

Not sure when he captured the Joker though, he's been trying to figure out why there are three of them

Okay, so Dark/Metal just isn't a good jumping-on point for returning readers. I remember reading about Gordon as "Iron Batman" but wasn't reading...pretty much any DC at the time.

Same with the three Jokers, I remember reading about Batman getting access to the Mobius Chair and asking who the Joker was. Didn't read any of that actual storyline.

Scarab Sages

The three Jokers is still part of the initial Rebirth storyline, but hasn't been mentioned afterwards.

Damon,

Basically the things Bruce has seen goes like this: First there was Death of the Family where the Bat family split up...sort of. Then came Endgame with Joker going off and killing like crazy. Also before Endgame but because of Death, he fell down a hole where he found Dionsym which is what healed him. So then of course they both died but came back thanks to, again Dionsym (which apparently the Court of Owls used the make their mostly unkillable Talons) But without their memories. (or at least very little) Then of course is Iron Batman/Gordon which led to Bruce taking back the mantle AFTER having his memories returned to him. During that 'return of memories" he saw..the multiverse, we think. So now we get Metal.

Thomas, thanks for catching me up. There was a time -- feels like 100 years ago -- when I was a regular DC client and a voracious reader of All Things Batman. DC started to slowly lose me as a reader somewhere along the way during Infinite Crisis/52/One Year Later/Final Crisis/Flashpoint, and lost me altogether when Nu52 hit. I go through periods of wanting to cut back on the large number of comics I buy, and DC made it very easy that year.

For the next four years all I knew about DC comic events was what I read here, in Diamond's PREVIEWS catalog, or on sites like Ain't It Cool. I dipped my toe back in the water with Convergence, and regretted it. Evidently I'm either a masochist or a hopeless optimist, because I came back again, somewhat apprehensively, for several of the Rebirth titles. I didn't pick up Batman/Detective Rebirth, though -- I think that was when the Iron Batman story came in?

Rebirth had sounded like it would be a return to a lot of the pre-Nu52 stuff that I'd liked. I guess it did bring back a lot of the old stuff, but not in many cases the things I'd have preferred.

Meantime, I missed a lot of storylines over the past 11 years or so. I didn't read We Are Robin, so I have no context for Duke-the-Signal. I liked the Spoiler years ago, but can't remember the last story I read with Stephanie; didn't catch her run as Batgirl, for example.

Chronological list of DC crossovers I read after Infinite Crisis:
- Countdown to Final Crisis
- Final Crisis
- Blackest Night
- Brightest Day
- Flashpoint
- Convergence
- Superman Reborn (sort of; trying to keep up with developments on Mr. Oz, at least)
- The Button
- The Lazarus Contract

Chronological list of DC crossovers I didn't read after Infinite Crisis

Spoiler:

- 52
- One Year Later
- Amazons Attack
- Sinestro Corps War
- Return of Bruce Wayne
- Reign of Doomsday
---New 52---
- Night of the Owls
- The Culling
- Rise of the Vampires
- Rise of the Third Army
- Rotworld
- Death of the Family
- Hawkman: Wanted
- H'el on Earth
- Throne of Atlantis
- Requiem
- Wrath of the First Lantern
- Psi War
- Batman: Zero Year
- Trinity War
- Forever Evil
- Blight
- Lights Out
- Gothtopia
- Superman: Doomed
- Uprising
- Godhead
- Nu52: Future's End
- Earth 2: World's End
- Truth
- Darkseid War
- Robin War
- Savage Dawn
- Superman: Lois & Clark
- Final Days of Superman
---Rebirth---
- Night of the Monster Men
- Justice League vs. Suicide Squad

As for major storylines that didn't cross titles, who knows how many?

No idea but I can tell you you're pretty close about the number of story lines that crossed a few titles or had little overall impact at times.

Yeah, I just copied the list from *here*.

It's a fairly comprehensive list, no question, Damon. I'm just not sure it's 100% complete. In any case I'm glad my requisite comic book knowledge helped out.

ok that's a strange rumor.....

Hickman on Legion?

not sure if true or not, not sure what to think?

If it is true, I think it would be great. And it would be time too. The last run on legion i liked was the Abnett and Lanning stuff.

I just want Legion.

That's all I ask for. Literally.

It's been rumored for months - pretty much since Secret Wars, if not before. Has something new come out recently?

I think it would be a good book for him.

I'd love to see a Legion book again, but mostly if it's the real LSH, not one of the various rebooted versions.

I have read almost all the Legion stories (thanks in part to the just released omnibus and part 2 should finish it) and the only parts I didn't like came after the Legion of 3 Worlds plot line. The Legion Lost and the New 52 writing just didn't do it for me.

I loved the 1970's era, since that was my first exposure, and the post Zero Hour reboot the best.

I hope the new Legion will be similar to the reboot.

As much as I love the legion, I hate the factionalism within the fanbase.

Everyone's REAL legion is someone else's fake legion.

Let's not go down that road, and just enjoy the book. If it's not for you, it's not for you.
