Can I use startoss style to attack with a spear in melee?

I ask cause the spear is a two handed weapon.

Scarab Sages

No, because Startoss Style requires you to not using a weapon in your other hand. The spear is in the thrown weapons group, but it's not a valid option for this feat. You would need to use a one handed thrown weapon, like the trident, shortspear, or sibat.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

the short spear is a one handed weapon, but a normal spear, no, unless you're an archetype that can one hand a spear (like phalanx fighter)

==Aelryinth

Or using a under sized spear maybe?

Liberty's Edge

I just think it's funny that startoss allows piercing weapons like short spears / javelins to impale targets and then 'bounce' to impale other targets. Physics be damned! :]

Might have made more sense to restrict it to bludgeoning / slashing ranged attacks rather than thrown attacks.

No, no, no, no, no, no! Martials need more fantastic things that they can do, not less. Besides, the starknife is the weapon the style is named for and its piercing.

It works with a blowgun, but only if it's the specific weapon you select with Startoss Style. Otherwise, the blowgun is not a valid Startoss Style weapon.

It also works with a poisoned sand tube, lasso, and bolas, for whatever reason.

Oooh! Bouncing bolas! Even more fun. :]

Magnetic Monowire Bouncing Bolas from Numeria. Nice.

Another question. How does the Vicious Aim ability of the Ilsurian Archer interact with the Hunter of Dahak feat? My reading is that as long as you have say FE(Dragons) +4 and this feat you will get +3 to all attack and damage rolls.

Vicious Aim (Ex): At 4th level, an Ilsurian archer
adds half his highest favored enemy bonus to all
attack rolls and damage rolls for attacks made
with ranged weapons. This does not stack with
his normal favored enemy bonus when targeting
a creature that qualifies as a favored enemy.
This ability replaces all spellcasting, and the
Ilsurian ranger is not considered to have a
caster level.

Hunter of Dahak
Prerequisites: Favored enemy (dragon), worshiper of Dahak.

Benefit: Your favored enemy bonuses increase by 2 against metallic dragons.

Also does anyone know of further abilities that increase your favored enemy bonus? I know there's a trait for Gnolls but that was 3.5 campaign trait.

Scarab Sages

It wouldn't work. Hunter of Dahak only increases your FE bonus against metallic dragons. If you aren't attacking a metallic dragon, your highest FE bonus is +4, meaning your vicious aim is +2.

I'm picturing a Hungering Arrow-style effect, like Valla in Heroes of the Storm.

That moment when characters start getting referenced from a crossover game instead of the game they're from!

I love Heroes of the Storm!

I know Valla is the Demon Hunter from Diablo, but I haven't played Diablo myself and wasn't sure if Hungering Arrow worked the same. I know some of Johanna's abilities differ in usage from the Crusader.

Smashing Style is neat, but Smashing Crush and Smashing Dent....why?
