Hmmmm, thoughts for a viable mount for a campaign with both on land and on boat battles? Something fast and nimble would be good.

Small Cat. Gets three attacks, free trip attempt on bite, and Sprint.

Level four is where the magic happens (size increase/sprint).

Base damage is so-so, which is why I suggest Outflank and Precise Strike (+4 to hit while flanking, extra D6 while flanking, crits provoke AoO for your ally-they stack nicely).

Currently playing this build, on a human, it's awesome.

Use Traits to make the skills you want as class skills. :D

Even if you ignore your physical stats, the animal companion makes up for it in combat.

Plus, how cool is it to wander around with a trained Panther? Pretty cool... It's not big enough to evoke fear like a bear would, but it can be pretty deadly.

Heck, even a DOG is good with this build, and you can take that ANYWHERE.

Velociraptor, aka "Kobold-reared Cave Raptor".

A very sound choice, if your GM allows it. :D Deadly, awesome.

Yea! Jurassic Park refernces for days lol.

Gold-scaled kobold with manly kobold-scale-whiskers, answering someone's "Who's the alpha?" question with "You're looking at him." ^_____^

Taunting a flee foe: " Don't run into the tall grass! "

Just wait until the archer-kobold is astride its mighty tiny tyrannosaur! Rawr!

<grin>

If you really wanna get nasty ... figure out a way to have 2 or 3 effective cave raptors as your pack...

Packmaster archetype with Boon Companion feat. :D

As humorous as the raptors are, good luck getting your DM to allow one. In my experience, they know how powerful dinosaurs are, and will typically not allow them.

Exactly why I stick to small cats, and dogs.

WAY easier to obtain, and much less powerful. Also, IMO, more likely to be let into towns :D

As entertaining as a pet sounds I probably shouldn't, decent sized table and one person will already have a pet. Might bog down.

Bard would be my second choice. They can be pretty flexible, and everyone will appreciate the buffs.

Swashbuckler could be hilarious, DEX to damage is nice... CHA is important...

Except the saves suck, Charmed Life is Awful, After level 5 you have gained everything you really can from the class.

To me Swashbuckler is a nice Dip for a few builds...but straight Swashbuckler is bad.

Since Unchained helped the rogue out I believe the current 2 non-archetyped Classes fighting over Title of Worst PF class is: Swashbuckler and Fighter

Both classes make nice dips..but they are out played by other classes in the thing they were designed to do.

Barbarians Fight better than the fighter ext ext.

Sad cause the Swashbuckler had promise. If they Fix their saves to Match Barbarians (good Fort and Reflex) along with Charmed life it would be worlds better. But being a Main Frontliner with a piss poor Con (Kobald) and Bad fortitude saves you are asking for trouble. At least with the Swashigator you can fool your team into thinking you're more of a rogue who slips in unnoticed for a big stab.

Counterpoint to that though... adding your entire LEVEL to damage is a strong motivator to stay in the class... I mean, imagine a KOBOLD killing a man in a single blow.

Awesome.

Seconding all of the above.

Noooooooo!

Give them a one shot pistol to tuck in the waistband and you have the perfect pirate!

Fun!

Take 1 single level and the the same thing without sucking from levels 2-Campaign end.

Your counter point is mute because it is precision damage. It is not a reliable source of damage like say...Big 2 handed weapon and power attack...that seems to work on everything.

Not to nitpick, but it's "moot", not "mute".

Sorry, that bugs me almost as much as rouge/rogue.

Usually a sign someone has Lost an debate is they become grammar police and look for any flaw they can grasp.

It bugs me as much as it bugs you.

Grammar and spelling are not my strong suit. Everyone has their weaknesses friend. You learned something today about pathfinder even if you had to sort through my bad english. And that is what makes me Happy I hope someone comes along and reads what I have written and becomes a better player for it. No hard feelings man and nothing personal man.

Wasn't trying to win a debate, just pointing something out.

the OP is going to play whatever they want, I hope it's a fun choice, cause that's all that matters in the end.

well my computer ate my post, but I just want to say briefly: its not fair to let the rest of the party make whatever characters they want, and force you to cover their holes, which is what your OP sounds like. If its that important to not have any holes in party roles or skills, then everyone should be asked to do their part. As is, it looks like X martials filling beatstick role, a magus doubling up on beatstick roles, with you being asked to fill in for everything else.

Sovereign Court

With a bunch of martials and a magus in the party - that seems to scream for straight bard. You could go Arcane Duelist if the Magus really has Knowedges covered (Bardic Knowledge is a pretty big thing to give up - but Arcane Duelist is pretty darned cool) - just grab Fencing Grace ASAP (admittedly - your melee damage will be weaksauce until you get it).

With a mithril breastplate and a heavy shield (possibly just a buckler if you extrapolate the Slashing Grace errata onto Fencing Grace) you could easily end up as the tankiest character in the party. Mediocre damage - but being a damage dealer isn't the bard's job.

I like investigator for this, too.

Bard is solid, though.
