The Kineticist's 3rd Level Wild Talent "Force Hook" can be gained by a 6th level Kineticist. Under the talent itself, it says:
FORCE HOOK
Element(s) aether; Type form infusion; Level 3; Burn 2Associated Blasts force
Saving Throw none
Your force blast hooks onto its target and drags you adjacent to it. This effect functions as force hook charge, except with the range and damage of your force blast.
Since the Associated blast is Force, does this mean the Kineticist cannot use this infusion unless they are using a Force Blast?
Force Blast is not usable until 7th level, and requires taking both primary & expanded elements of Aether. Additionally, the Force Blast itself costs 2 burn. This would mean that to perform a Force hook, you would need to burn 4 (subtract 1 for Infusion specialization, and then at level 8 subtract an additional 1 from the total)This doesn't seem right - but how else are you producing the Force Blast that the infusion appears to be modifying?

Yes, it must be used with the force composite blast. There is no other blast able to use it, sadly. Imagine the ability as it happens. A normal aether blast is a thrown object. A force blast is more like the bubbles of raw force produced by violet in the incredibles. Force hook infusion is you literally creating a fixed point in space and then yanking yourself towards it. You can't do that with an object you just threw, it has to be the more solid (so to speak) force ability.
It really is just a way to get ride the blast on an Aether kineticist, since we can't just use the regular blast on ourselves as if we were the unattended thrown object. If we did, we'd take the blast damage too. And probably land prone.
Aether blast might not have been that well thought out to be honest. Probably my least favorite bit of the class.

As the blast only has a range of 30', does that mean that you are essentially looking at 4pts of burn just for 30' of movement?
I know Extended Range and Extreme Range can increase that 30' limitation, but as these are form infusions, you wouldn't be able to apply them if you are already applying Force Hook.

Indeed. Force Hook is among the most ill-conceived of all the Kineticist Wild Talents.
It requires: picking Aether twice (which is generally considered a poor tactical decision), taking 4 burn only 2 of which is from infusions (so you actually take the burn without tapping your internal buffer, or supercharging), and moving 30 feet while still provoking AoOs on the way. You're a high dex class with acrobatics as a class skill, so cases where this power is useful are few and far between. I mean, it comes as the same level as Foe Throw, and you could always just throw throw the person you want to close with at the square next to you; it allows a save, but you needn't choose aether twice, you needn't actually take burn, and you needn't provoke.
I love the telekineticist, but Force Hook appears to combine the two worst things about it: your composite blasts are poor and your good infusion options are lacking.

Note that you can't get this infusion until 7th level anyways. You qualify for it at 6, but you only gain infusions at odd levels, so you can't pick it up until 7 anyways.

Sounds like I will need a different direction if I'm trying to recreate an Attack on Titan - Recon Corps/Scout Legion character build.
The Magus spell that Force Hook is based on (Force Hook Charge, I think) is probably better for that since it works appropriately with spell combat.

As usual in PF, the best way to make something cool is a spellcaster.
