Alpha strike.
(Seriously. Have an evoker with spell spec evocation cast a metamagic'ed shocking grasp on the birdy before combat. Have it hold the charge, then, have, in round 1 of combat, the familiar zip in to deliver the touch attack before following it up with some focused rays. It's kinda funny when you deal out 250 damage this way.)

Find the shiny objects. Hopefully they share them with you.
Scout, especially if they are a type of creature normally found in the area. It doesn't work quite as well if you send you artic hare to scout in the desert...
Wake people up.
If it is cute, might be able to use it as a conversation starter.
If it has paws capable of doing such, give it a healing salve to dump on you if you go down in combat.
Make snarky comments about being smarter than the Paladin.

Give the familiar any beneficial touch spell, instruct it to deliver the touch on you on a command word. Free contingency!
That's standard action to cast, contingency is immediate. However, you could instruct your familiar to sit in your pocket and spend every single turn readying an action to do ___ and then yes, it is a free contingency.

My wizard always walks around with a big cloak and mask, I have a second set of clothes and mask, I could technically use my familiar as a body double!
It's a fairy dragon so I guess it could mimic being a wizard hehehe.
I could even dress up as the squire of the wizard and be the real boss hiding in play sight!

Remote bomb delivery and activation mechanism.
I've been looking for confirmation about this very question...can an owl familiar 'drop bombs/potions/caltrops/etc.'?? Certainly not at level 1 since "Empathic Link (Su):....Because of the link's limited nature, only general emotions can be shared."
I can maybe see at lvl 5 when they can Communicate with Master, but would you required Handle Animal skills to do something like this? To me it just seems to go above and beyond what a familiar should be able to do.
Any official ruling or is this all house rules?

for Role Play reasons (and because she is just really CUTE) I just picked up a Pseudo-dragon Familiar... so I dropped in here to see if I could find some Kewl Things to add to my Character. (I'm mostly a Bard, with a level of Sorcerer to gain access to a Familiar...)
Most of the suggestions leave a little be to be desired. Sigh...
Useful pointers on how to make a Familiar fun at the table (useful, or cool, or just fun to have a the table) would be very nice.
Thank you in advance for your help with my character...

Step #1- Roll up an Eldrich Guardian (fighter with a familiar)
Step #2- Take a box turtle or hedgehog with the Sage archetype
Step #3- Take it out of your pocket for spiritual and arcane consultation.
Step #4- Do as your tiny companion commands (It ends up with 25 INT and all the knowledge skills, so it's probably decent advice).
"Why is you great sword weilding fighter friend taking to a rodent.... and following it's orders?"
(Shrugs)"I seems to know more than the sorcerer, so why not?"

Seeing you take my comedic post absolutely literally restores my lost faith in humanity.
Also I know that hedgehogs and box turtles aren't actually of the "tiny" size.

Most of the time if I have an arcane caster with a familiar, I take the Valet familiar. I do so because:
1. Prestidigitation: SO many good uses such as always being clean, flavoring my food and drink, moving small, light objects slowly, and all the special effects that make my entrances all the more grand
2. Cooperative Crafting: it's pretty handy to have an extra crafting buddy when you start getting to those big, expensive items
3. Sharing all Teamwork Feats: I don't use a ton of these, but there's a couple that are pretty nice to have like bonuses to caster level or saves
Also, remember that your familiar shares all the Skill ranks you do. Consider taking a rank in Survival. From level 1 on you've got a Diminutive to Small sized forager helping you gather basic necessities in the wilderness.
This brings me to one of the biggest uses I get from my familiars: Aid Another.
Consider replacing their level 1 Feat with Extra Traits, then as one of their two Traits taking Helpful. Between the familiar sharing your ranks and spells that allow you to communicate w/your familiar from level 2 on, there's a strong chance your little buddy is providing you with +3 on A LOT of stuff.

Train it to hold a hat for coins during your performances.
Create illusions of it battling with other tiny monsters and get people to place bets. Telepathically communicate with him to have him win or fake a loss depending on which would yield the better financial results.
Steal group BDF's meat off their plate at dinner.

Profession, craft or Alchemy checks to make a profit during downtime. (Opposable thumb helps: brownie, imp, quasit. Earth Mephits outsider type and homunculus construct type, don't need sleep so can work 3 shifts per day)
Monstrous spiders farming silk. (Profession weaver on master)
Pigs, chickens, goats, helping herd animals and adding to breeding stock. (Profession farmer on master)
Cats, hawks and falcons on pest control. (Survival foragers too, like said above. But pest control mainly)
IIRC, there's no familiar with burrow (like the animal companion badger)... or I'd say fast ditch digger / soil tiller.
