Tower Shield build?

Advice

I know tower shields are generally not all that great, and if someone wants to do a shield oriented build there's other better ways of doing it. But my GM has given me a pair of intelligent tower shields. I want to make a shield build revolving around these two Tower sheilds, but i'm a little lost. I really wanna make it work, because the GM is really pumped about these shields, and when i go a long time without using them its a downer.

I'm in a very hard to describe spot right now character wise, but basically i can be anything i want, up to our party level, 9.

So any advice revolving around Towers? 2 of them.

A Tower Shield Specialist Fighter could use both shields to cover two simultaneous facings, while attacking with spiked armor.

Start here. You could also consider having an improvised weapons barbarian or bloodrager build or a phalanx fighter build or something. I'm not quite sure how to work two shields in.

right? Its a little awkward trying to make BOTH fit in. Im perfectly content to just use one in most scenarios, so i would build around TSS Fighter for simplicity sake. But as i read that archetype, it basically only reduces penalties(which is huge mind you, but only for offensive builds that use a Tower) and gives AC bonuses.

Thing is survivability isn't a weakness of my PC. In fact its quite the opposite, its easily my strongest quality. So trying to use these shields in an efficient manner is proving difficult seeing as really the only thing they accomplish is adding AC, which i dont need.

Im looking for a way to help my team stay alive

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I've recently built a tower shield specialist so I feel qualified to weigh in with powerful options I found.

Pick up an ability to grant teamwork feats to your allies (such as the Cavalier ability or the Battle Song of the People's Revolt).

Next you want to get as big as you can. Enlarge Person, or even something to get your PC (or companion capable of wielding tower shields) to Huge size.

Finally, snag the Shield Wall teamwork feat. You can buff AC a bit, but more importantly this lets you provide Total Cover for your entire party as a standard action.

You can combine this with Contigent Action to do some cool stuff, like automatically shield you and your companions from an archer ambush.

The feat Covering Shield can grant a pretty impressive bonus to your Reflex saves if you're really good with tower shields.
