I've seen a couple of relatively cheap items that are really good. I think I'm actually more impressed when someone comes up with something interesting that can be appropriately priced at less than 1k.

People seem to be tempted to submit high power high cost items, hoping the power=coolness factor will score them some points. It's really a lot more impressive on a design level when designers achieve an awesome effect that a part can use cost effectively.

Marathon Voter Season 8, Marathon Voter Season 9

If I can't afford the item until 15th level, I probably won't vote on it, even if it does a huge amount of base damage before multiplying other bonuses like strength.

That said, this other item is really cheap but super neat, even if the use is kinda niche. I think it's author is the author of Springheart from last year.

I have no strong feeling that my 4 keepers will actually be in the Top 32.

Sun for the Sun God

To activate this +1 holy symbol of the Egyptian Sun god, requires chanting a specific command phrase. When activated, all good-aligned characters are bathed in positive energy and healed fully. This healing lasts 2d4 rounds or until the command phrase is no longer being chanted.

He is the Sun god! He is the fun god! Ra! Ra! Ra!

I finally found the item that closely mimics my entry; and it's actually pretty good. Perhaps I'm just biased? Anyway, it got my vote. Now if I could just come across my submission.

On a side note, I'm always shocked when two items are so incredibly close to one another, yet the authors have never even spoken before. What are the odds, especially considering it has happened to me three years now?!?

I mentioned this in the snark thread, but I saw one item earlier tonight that was a dead ringer for my own submitted item. Same basic idea. There were some things I liked better about my own, but some things I think the designer of the other item did better. I can't help but feel if we just put our ideas together, we'd have a top 32 item for sure.

In any event, the way they presented their take definitely made me see some ways I could have improved my own.

I found myself in almost exactly this position with an item.

In the 2013 season, my item was one of several plant related footwear items with similar abilities. There was one I never did see in the voting that some voters liked better. They were all pretty good and we all got a lot of votes, but I made the top 32 because mine was slightly better than the others. If yours is the better of the two it will help, but now that there are not judges picking the top 32 from the top 100 or so, you have to get lucky that a similar item to yours is not number 31 and yours is 33 on the last day of voting.

Favorite items thus far:

-A body slot that twists a spell in a can in a VERY interesting way.
-An armor that make me wish my cavalier was still around.
-A detection item which I did not expect to like
-A weirdo weapon with tons of flavor
-Another armor which riff off another item but in a good way
-A butterfly themed item
-A goblin's dream item

just vague enough hehehe

Butterfly themed item also one of my favorite ones, just commented my wife "that's what I call Superstar" ;)

Well played secret designer, you played with that concept in a very different way.

Excellent flavor with topical Golarion references. Almost overdone, but not quite. Item is useful too! Well done.

Yeah, that is when I think, I'm voting for the designer not the item. But I haven't had to cross that bridge yet. :)

Just read the title & thought, "what? how could that be." Just read the item & thought "that's how! It is the right title for this item!" Well done!

Oh, good. That item survived the first cull. I'm glad. It's got a certain mojo I really like.

I've seen two with some design similarities to my own submission, but none that actually do the same thing. Hoping that stays true.

What the what? *reads description* I think your execution might not be perfect, but admire your moxie nonetheless. That is an inspired combination of disparate elements.

I saw an awesome piece of armor that I would have voted for over my own item. I haven't seen it on the post cull list. :(

Here's hoping though...

I can't wait till we can speak about entries and I can openly praise the designer, whether they make it to the top 32 or not.

Shield designers, you are cool people. Other than a couple of pre-cull shields, they've all been easy favourites. I would be disappointed if most of you didn't make the top 32, even if that does make the top 32 shield heavy.
