If the item was in the top32, it appears in these boards. You can ask or PM specific people with the item's reference and your own potential entry so that they can tell you if your feeling is accurate or not.
If it was NOT in the top 32, you will need to check last RPGSS' threads about Keep lists, favored items ... and if you see the name of the item you're thinking of, maybe the poster writing about it kept its description.
Maybe it is also one of the items submitted in the Critique my item thread ;-)
Otherwise, I think you should not fret too much about it. Most voters will likely not recognize it and will not be much more able than you are to find it anyway ;-)

Unless it's called out as a quarterstaff and treated as a magical weapon rather than a magical staff, you'll need to write something else. If, as has been pointed out, you didn't submit it yet.

I did not submit my staff, but am trying to finish a shield I started formulating at work.
I know I made a staff this year as I expected it'd be allowed, but then I double read the rules again.
I think it's safe to reveal that I did not submit a staff like I planned on.
Then there are two great staves that have been written, but not yet revealed. I would like to say: 'maybe next year,' but I would like to win this year.

I feel it's best to attempt a new item. Changing it from the original design would lessen how cool I think it is.
Staves are most certainly not allowed unless they're done simply as a magic weapon (i.e., quarterstaff). I've already flagged a handful of staves for rejection which would fall into the magic "Staff" category (i.e., requires Craft Staff as opposed to Craft Magic Arms and Armor).

I am thankful that I don't have to do this, so that I can reject having to be treated for staff infection... :D
