Soooo many ways to break Skyrim...
I think Skyrim kind of plays on a gentleman's agreement that you'll do things the 'right' way and have balanced skills. Of course once you've dumped 10 hours buying and selling to raise Speech by 3 points, you say screw it and do the trick to get speech to 100 in one transaction because tedious.
My favorite, although not necessarily most powerful, thing to do is max out illusion so I can get Mayhem from the guy at the college. (Best place so far: Riften, though Whiterun had its moments.) I could almost end the civil war by default just by causing everyone to murder each other.
And yet oddly, despite the genocidal rampage, I can still never find it in me to join with Ulfric. I find him distasteful.

Random when-I-was-a-kid confessions, huh?
As a kid I thought Peg Bundy was a MILF before the term was invented. To this day if I ever met Al I'd wallop Jim upside the head and scream at him to man up and hit that.
Who the f*** has a wife that wants it all the time and actually complains about it?
In retrospect, I think the man may have had E.D. It would explain a lot...

Yeah he's really not much better than the Thalmor in my opinion.
it's been years since I played Skyrim, but I remember back when I was actively playing I wrote a letter/essay from the perspective of my Dragonborn as to why she in the end chose to assist the empire though she was at heart sympathetic to the cause of Skyrim independence.
Unfortunately the letter is on the old hard drive of my dead computer and I can't access it.
Though I'm sure if I got an opportunity to play Skyrim again and remake the same character it might all come back to me.

My brother hates me because I said Imagine Dragons and One Republic have given me hope that the new generation isn't all garbage. He's still concerned about what is cool, being 25, and so to him anything that popular can't have value.
I assume he's a fan of those "you say Mozart I say Nicki Minaj, you say Beatles I say Bēowulf, repost if you're one of the 1% of the young generation who still listens to real music" copypastas you see on youtube?

Sounds like he needs a little inspiration in his life (just don't tell him it was released in 2011)
Incidentally, when I was playing a skald in a test dungeon with some friends, every time I did a skaldic performance, I put on a viking metal song.

Well that and (spoilers ahead):
Even though Redguards are my favorite race to play and Hammerfell declared independence, I can never bring myself to side with the racist sleeper agent specifically propped up to further the Elf Nazis' cause. (Though I like to headcanon it's just to reunite Skyrim as Asa united front against the Empire and then the Thalmor.)
Edit: Ooh, and I almost forgot the rank hypocrisy over the Markarth incident.
So yeah I can never see any good reason to go Stormcloak.

That is EXACTLY The reason why my Dragonborn decided to go with the Empire, and the letter I wrote explained all of this in detail, including
Not because she liked the empire, but simply because she wanted to stop the war as quickly with at least amount of attrition as possible, so that Tamriel could still stand strong against Thalmor

I found the essay by my dragonborn! Just fyi I wrote this back in 2012 so it's definitely not my current writing.
by Hrút Dragonborn
As Dragonborn, and especially in a volatile political climate such as our Skyrim at this beginning of the Third Century of the Fourth Era, it is risky for me to express my personal political opinion. Some may say that as a Nord and a hero of Skyrim that I owe my allegiance to Ulfric and the Stormcloaks, so that Skyrim may be wrenched free of the Thalmor and the Empire. Perhaps they may be right. Others may say that as a citizen born in the Empire, and as the last true heir to the Stormcrown, I instead owe my allegiance to the Empire. Perhaps this is also true. If I vouch for one, I may find myself hatefully, violently opposed by the other side. How dare I, Dovahkiin, vanquisher of Alduin World-Eater and savior of Skyrim, not join their side! And so, in expressing my true feelings about this war I take a risk.
It is not clear to me whether or not I should oppose the secession of Skyrim, but what is clear to me is that this is not a war about Skyrim so much as it is a war about Ulfric.
Ulfric’s true purpose is not the independence of Skyrim–no, fighting for Skyrim’s independence is only the means to an end. His true purpose is to place himself in the throne as High King. If an independent Skyrim is not going to have him in the throne, then he’s not interested. It is obvious in the name of the Stormcloaks themselves, who have named themselves after Ulfric Stormcloak.
Is Ulfric Stormcloak fit to be High King of Skyrim? The answer lies in his Jarlship. As Jarl of Windhelm, what has he done, and what has he not done? Most Nords in Windhelm vouch for his heroism, and in a way they may be right. Brunwulf Free-Winter claims that he is eager to ride to the defense of Nords in distress.
But if you were to ask this question of the Nords, you would only be asking a fraction of the population of Skyrim. Ask the impoverished Dunmer of Windhelm, and you’ll find that Ulfric refuses to acknowledge their plight. Ask the Argonians of Windhelm and you’ll find that they are not even allowed inside the city, and instead are forced to work in the harsh weather for little pay. And if a caravan of Khajiit is attacked by bandits in his hold, Ulfric ignores them.
Is this how a Jarl should behave, turning a blind eye to the struggles of his people instead of sending aid as he would for the Nords? For this reason I don’t believe Ulfric is fit to be Jarl of Windhelm, let alone High King of Skyrim.
Ulfric’s past involvement in the Imperial Legion should not be forgotten. When the Reach separated from Skyrim under the Forsworn, Ulfric and his men invaded and retook the Reach for the Empire. I fail to follow Ulfric’s thinking: Ulfric wants independence for Skyrim, but he doesn’t care about the independence of the Reach, which historically belonged to and is still dominated by the Forsworn? I find that to be hypocritical. One can read more about the incident with Ulfric and the Forsworn in the text The Bear of Markarth.
It is true that I handed Markarth and The Reach to Ulfric in the Peace Council at High Hrothgar. This was to protect Whiterun from an attack by Ulfric and I had no choice in the matter. In order for me to capture a dragon in Dragonsreach and learn how to reach Alduin, I had to protect Whiterun, and thus I was forced to make this negotiation. The Thalmor also had a strong presence in Markarth the last time I entered the city, and I only hope that putting Markarth in Stormcloak control has driven them out.
For the reasons given I will not join the Stormcloak side but that does not necessarily make me pro-Legion. Like most Stormcloaks I too believe in an independent kingdom of Skyrim. I also believe in an independent Reach. But I cannot allow Ulfric to become High King, independent Skyrim or no.
Under ordinary circumstances I would stay out of this war and wait for it to end on its own, but that is not an option. I have written proof that the Thalmor are deliberately agitating this war to weaken the Legion. The best outcome for the Thalmor is for the war to perpetuate itself until the Empire is exhausted of all its strength and weak enough to be taken by the Aldmeri Dominion. If anyone wishes to view the official Thalmor Dossiers that reveal this, they are welcome to come to my house in Whiterun and ask for my permission to see them.
To prevent the Thalmor from achieving their goal, the war must end, and if it won’t end on its own, I will make it end, and ensure that Ulfric stays out of the Blue Palace while I am at it. Hence I have decided to join the Legion.

I mean, for f%+*'s sake, the quote system automatically puts my name there. You have to actually make the effort to go change it to something incorrect. How the F%@@ does that happen?
No idea.

I dont like Imagine Dragons or mumford and sons too stadium rock for my tastes. Mumfords newest album is especially shi!!y.
Considering they sent Weird Al the settings and such to recreate the music track for his parody of Radioactive, yeah they're decent guys.
When Al asked Mark Knopfler if he could parody money for nothing Knopfler said only if he could play lead guitar on the track.....and did. Beyond decent.

@ Music: Grew up in the 90s, but my parents played a LOT of old rock, So.. Let's see, at 11..... KISS, AC/DC, Queen, Chicago, Poison, Guns N Roses, Pat Benetar, Weird Al.... What? I had a cassette with "Yoda" on it. I ran that thing till the tape snapped.
@ Peg Bundy:..... Katey Sagal is a very good lookin' woman.
@ Skyrim: Haven't played it in a while, but my usual style was Stealth + Dagger w/ archery backup. As soon as I found the Illusion school, I had so much fun with Stealth + Conjuration (w/ Silent Casting from Illusion).
My first character was a nord in ebony mail with the Ebony Blade daedric artefact. Sided with Ulfric, but didn't bother getting too much into the lore at the time. On my second run through, I paid more attention to who was doing what, and now I just can't bring myself to side with the stormcloaks anymore. Good idea, but the fools fail to see this is nothing more than a way for the Thalmor to take over the empire. Plus, Ulfric is just.... Urgh.
Trying to side with Ulfric makes me feel the same way I do when I try and force myself to side with the Legion in New Vegas. I've only ever done it successfully.... ONCE. I have YET to manage to side with NCR or House. They're not as bad as The Legion, but they still leave a bad taste in my mouth.

I am SO villainous.
I sided with Legion first.
I sided with Ulfric first.
I later beat them with all endings, but I almost always play "bad guy mode" in my first play through of a videogame.
I have to spend every day of reality doing my best to be nice to people, and follow rules, and the like. I pretend to be otherwise when given the opportunity, because let's be real - tossing your inhibitions to the wind and letting loose without fear of repercussions is FUN!

Being villainous IS fun.
Ulfric wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the consequences I know were coming, or if he wasn't such an ass. Then again, most everyone is an ass, and I can't wait for a PC that can run Skyrim with that "true high king" mod that'll let me MURDERHOBO ULFRIC AND TULLIUS without breaking the quest line.
Legion I can do if I ignore all the dialogue. They're just anathema to my very core, and I haven't quite figured out why. Probably never will. I actually find myself agreeing with a LOT of their policies. I still hate them.
Cutting loose in games is a fantastic stress relief, and has actually had many studies proven that it'll help people with propensities to such acts to NOT do them in real life. Everyone has a demonic hideous little monster inside of them. It's why we carjack and drive like maniacs in games like GTA, or brutally murderhobo that random NPC that insulted us in Skyrim with a stealth arrow to the FACE, or bring down the wrath of heaven with the Archemedes lazor in New Vegas in the middle of a heavily populated area because a thug decided to try and mug ya. Hell, I regularly set up intricate and twisted ways of killing Nazeem in Whiterun because one can live out violent revenge fantasies that way (and I have a LOT of reason to have a LOT of them, lol).
Drugs wouldn't sell well either.
More back on topic: I really, really, really wanna give Way of the Wicked a try... And I can't freaking wait for Paizo's Evil AP.

See I actually thought Tullius was pretty good (see: Defending Whiterun) and besides he wasn't going to rule - Elisif was. She was young and naive, but surrounded herself with smart advisors and even was loyal enough to seek Talos' blessing on her husband's behalf.
